Chapter 12: 11. Subjugation (2)
"you need to hurry up; the gathering will soon be announced," said the Cadell, looking at her shining watch; Ethan glanced at her; he clearly knew what came next.
'if I remember well, it was the subjugation contract' he remembered, that was mainly because he almost died during the process of enslavement.
His hand moved towards the trait and pressed the enter icon; soon, the wording disintegrated; he did not have any physical changes in his body, but he could clearly feel that something was of plus within him.
"... Why didn't you choose the skill? It looks imposing," asked Cadell; she eyed Ethan, and the boy shrugged.
"I am working for a long-run retirement," He said, the fairy grimace at the statement.
"Aren't you twelve?" She asked; Ethan nodded; he flexed his palms, trying to comprehend his new trait. He knew the trait, but he never succeeded in acquiring it in the alternate.
The fairy suspiciously stared at his back for a moment but dropped the topic, "Okay, you better hurry; it will soon begin." She waved before disappearing.
Ethan stood in the quiet cave examining his environment for a moment, his senses sharpened to the limit; after making sure he was alone, his body immediately collapsed as he dropped down on the floor, trembling.
Cadell managed the regulation of the zone within the sky obelisk, she thought of the trait he took.
"Why would he choose something so weak... Was he trying to sell his body to a devil?" She or he whatever question, as Cadell's appearance did not resemble that of a fairy within the obelisk.
"Sir Cadell, it's ready," said a two-headed demon; he walked towards the mass of dark smoke, which only had a handout and red spots, which might be his eyes.
"Gather them; I think we should ship them as fast as possible and bring the new batch," Instructed Cadell.
The demon nodded before leaving. Cadell resumed his work; he was in a bad mood, and the demand for more climbers had skyrocketed ever since opening the games.
"All because of those bastards, if I was present, I would have wiped them out." He thought of those so-called genius beings who wanted to defy God and take his place.
*
"Who are you?!" Screamed Ethan in panic; he kept on rubbing his hands to increase his body temperature, "Where am I? This place is cold; I want to go home!" He kept on shouting as he moved around.
"Just shut up." Ethan immediately jumped backward at the angry voice; he got ready to fight. However, his fighting stand was comically stupid.
The individual face-palms himself, embarrassed at his younger self-image.
"I don't have much time to sit around and talk, so listen carefully," Said Ethan, his adult self, to be precise.
"I reincarnated, but the process isn't how I read in books; it's more of a soul of the future dragged back to the past," said Ethan.
Younger Ethan stared at older Ethan, "What?" He was confused, seeing this, older Ethan sighed.
"My memories are stuck around; you can explore this place, and you will easily understand what's going on," Said older Ethan.
Younger Ethan looked around and was startled by the change, "how is this possible?" Their surrounding had changed; they were now in an immensely vast library of memories.
"With this, I need to leave, well," Said Ethan; he turned around, and a door showed up; younger Ethan was shocked at what was going on until now, he was on the school bus with Katnese lecturing him on how to stand for himself.
"Wait, if what you say is true." After being witness to all these supernatural things and a game/otaku, his mind rapidly judges the situation to be critical if his past self had to come back from a distant future.
"What happened to us in the future?" He asked and even added, "What about humanity... Katnese?" Asked younger Ethan.
Older Ethan, whose appearance gradually morphed to him before the end, paused on his way, crossing the door, "Humanity lost, and we all died." He vanished behind the door, leaving Ethan alone in a library of memories.
The light on his forehead faded, and he gradually opened his eyes; his body was lighter, which meant the original soul of the body had stopped fighting back; he sighed in relief.
"That was close," He thought.
A body cannot habitat two souls for long; one had to go, meaning a fight between the two souls where one would be either crutched or engulfed, and it was certain.
"I was going to lose " He smiled, that was because, his soul and body were gradually breaking down throughout his journey to the apex, leaving it, a cold and barren place, and at his death, he lost a great part of it, if not of her, and her trait of spiritual manifestation, he would have disappeared with the darkness of the realm eater, the abyss.
However, there was a solution enabling two souls to cohabit within one's body, temporal, but still a solution.
[Soul contractor]
A trait that would help him sustain the balance they issue is that this trait grows weaker as he gathers more souls within the body.
Ethan walked towards the door leading to the upper floors; he was weaponless; he had to find a weapon somewhere or steal one from somebody.
*
Katnese looked at the food, burning out in shock, "What's all this about?" She questioned, looking around; after their food was destroyed by Lazar, they had no other choice but to gather what was left and move out; the outcome was seeing it turning into ashes.
[Gathering point]
She and the others hadn't processed what just happened when a notification popped up at their face with a map indication with a countdown on it.
Ethan showed up in a different attire; his former clothes were destroyed; he passed through the third floor and took a set of black trousers, a shirt, and a jacket with military boots.
Exiting the underground, he looked around the hall; he looked at the pilled-up ashes for a second before swiftly exiting the building.
Katnese looked behind her, worried; he was still not showing up, the time was running out, and Ethan was still absent; the fairy was already coming down, and from her expression, late coming wouldn't be tolerated.
'would he make it?' she was worried, she wasn't the only person looking behind; others like Dimitri were happy about this outcome.
"I hope he died down there, teach him of being selfish," Said Dimitri; his words caught the attention of a few people, including Lazar, who slightly looked back.
Time was up
Clap!
A circle surrounded those who were present; the crowd was slightly frightened by this supernatural fit, and they all glanced at the fairy who gradually descended toward them.
"Don't be afraid; it's protection from outside influence," said the fairy, "you see, the protection I place on you all has worn out, leaving you vulnerable to Surya's burning gaze," Said Cadell.
"Oh God..." Murmured one of the captives, his attention directed outside the circle, Katnese shifted her gave where he was looking and saw a child who stood there looking at the sky; it was recognizable that it was a child from the height.
This was because his body had turned black; it wasn't the only one or things facing the process; the building, plants, everything was burning out to ashes; Katnese heart skipped, "Ethan!" She walked towards the circle forgetting about the blaze.
"Remain calm, it is too late for him!" Katnese was dragged away from the circle boundaries; her teary eyes did not leave the burning people who tried to catch up, "maybe one of them is him," She murmured.
"I would not die that fast." Katnese and the man holding him were startled, and a group of people made their way as someone was revealed.
"When?" Questioned Damian; they all were looking at the wrong place; Ethan was already present before the circle was placed; he just minded his business and waited.
Katnese was slightly angered by his behavior, "I was worried, why didn't you find me?!" She came complaining at him; Ethan made a finger gesture asking her to keep quiet; it was at that moment they all remembered the Fairy's presence.
"It seems like you're having fun..." She was already in front of Katnese with her hand up; if it wasn't for Ethan's gesture, she would have been beheaded for being noisy.
