Vidar: The God Of Strength

Chapter 1: Unworthy

In an opulent room with training equipment that would tear every muscle in an normal humans body, a man with a muscular build, blonde hair, blue eyes, and a hammer on his belt could be seen trading blows with a similar built man with dark hair, blue eyes, and a long brown staff with runes running along its length on the wayside.

"I know you can do better than that, my brother!", Thor, the blond one said.

"You know I can, Thor. Remember last weeks sparring session?", Vidar, the dark haired one, responded.

"Ah, yes. Well, that was simply because I was distracted but nevertheless it was a fruitful session"

"Ha, let's prove that theory then!", Vidar then threw a left hook at his brother which Thor blocked and threw a right jab in response that never connected with Vidar allowing the brunet to counterattack with an uppercut that sent Thor spinning.

Thor recovered and smiled at Vidar then placed his hand on Mjolnir, his signature weapon but as he did so an older woman with auburn hair and a chastising maternal look stepped into the training ground.

"Thor, you know you're supposed to be in the Great Hall for your ceremony", Frigga tells Thor while Vidar tries to pretend he isn't there.

"Go, now and that goes for you too. Loki and your father are already waiting on you two", Frigga says dashing Vidar's hope that she wouldn't notice him.

"Yes, ma'am", the brothers say in unison while slinking off to the Great Hall. Vidar grabs his staff, placing it on his back.

"At this rate your precious hammer will be taken from you"

Amusedly, Thor grabs his hammer protectively and says "Never! Mjolnir would fly back to me. Wouldn't you buddy?" and in response Mjolnir flies from Thor's belt into his hand and Thor begins flipping the hammer while walking to the Great Hall.

"See? Mjolnir would never leave, although the same couldn't be said about Stykyr on your back brother" Thor says with a roguish grin.

"Yeah, at this rate Sif's the side piece compared to your hammer", Vidar responds with his own grin causing them both to laugh as they reach the Great Hall.

Pushing open the doors, Vidar and Thor are approached by Loki, who looks accustomed to the happy-go-lucky nature of his two brothers.

"Where have you two meatheads been? Wait, let me guess, you two were sparring again?", Loki begins in a taunting voice, congruent to his status as the God of Mischief.

"Would you believe me if I said no?" Vidar responds with squinted eyes and a grin.

"No", Loki says with a deadpan expression before going off to the side with Vidar doing the same while Thor approaches the throne and kneels. Vidar sees the King of Asgard himself atop his throne looking a mix of amused and frustrated with the brothers' antics as has become custom with his father and mother. Odin schools his expression and begins "Do you swear to guard the Nine Realms?".

"I swear", determinedly responds Thor.

"And do you swear to preserve the peace?"

"I swear"

"Do you swear to cast aside all selfish ambition and to pledge yourself only to the good of the Realms?"

"I swear!", Thor resolutely yells back while raising his hammer above his head.

"Then, on this day, I, Odin Allfather, proclaim you... The Frost Giants" Odin says gravely while banging his spear, Gungnir, on the floor, releasing the Destroyer killing all Frost Giants in the Weapons Vault. Vidar, Thor, Loki, and Odin walk into the room, observing the remains and approaching the Casket of Eternal Winters.

"The Jotun must pay for what they've done!", Thor says with rage.

"They have paid, with their lives. The Destroyer did its work, the Casket is safe and all is well", Odin responds with the calm nature of an experienced king.

"But Father, they broke into the Weapons Vault, if even one of these relics had been stolen it would have been disastrous for Asgard.", Vidar says, expressing his agreement with Thor.

"Why didn't those Jotun steal anything Father?", Thor angrily asks.

"I have a truce with Laufey, King of the Jotuns", Odin tells his sons.

"He just broke your truce Father, we should march into Jotunheim and teach them a lesson", Thor responds.

"As you once did", Vidar quietly tells Odin.

"What I have done before, I have done during a time of war. You both are thinking as warriors.", Odin says still calm.

"This was an act of war Father", Thor responds, hammer in hand.

"No, this was an act of the few and of the desperate", Odin says somberly although no one notices.

"Look how far they got! As king of Asgard I demand-", Thor angrily responds.

"But you're not king!", Odin says losing his patience and cutting off his first son, leaving his three sons.

"You were a big help in there guys", Thor sarcastically says to his brothers.

"Well I was hoping it would work out in the end", Loki softly responds.

"This was supposed to be my great triumph", Thor says while sitting after flipping a table in rage, pouring all the mead and wasting the food on the floor.

"It'll come, in time", Loki says, strangely nice compared to his usual antics. In response to Thor's childish table flipping, Volstagg, Fandral, Hogun, and Sif enter the room with Volstagg being the first to speak expressing his confusion with the food being on the floor. While Volstagg resets the table, Loki has an idea that sets off a lightbulb in Thor's brain.

"It's the only way to protect Asgard", Thor exclaims.

"And what's that?", Vidar questions with the warriors three and Sif listening in as well.

"Storming Jotunheim", Thor says with a smile.

"This isn't like trips to Earth where you do a little light show for the mortals Thor, this is directly going against Father", Loki states trying (and failing) to get Thor to at least think.

"Father stormed Jotunheim and stole their casket and we will simply be looking answers", Thor then looked at the warriors three and Sif and asked "Are you with me?".

"We'll go", responded everyone.

"Excellent, we're going to Jotunheim."

Loki piped up with a sly smile on his face "I still think this is a bad idea".

"Think of it as obeying our soon to be king", Vidar shoots back.

After using the Bifrost with the help of Heimdall, the All-Seeing, the group is sent to a cold barren wasteland of a realm.

"Let's move", commanded Thor.

While walking Vidar could feel the uneasiness in the air and had a feeling that there were Frost Giants in the shadows.

"You have come a long way to die Asgardians", Laufey, the King of the Frost Giants said with disdain upon his frozen throne.

"How did your people enter Asgard!", Thor heatedly responded, finally meeting the person he has come for.

"You are nothing but a boy trying desperately to be a man", Laufey said towards Thor and then his eyes turned upon Vidar who was standing behind Thor.

"And you are nothing but a disappointment standing in the shadow of the crown prince", Laufey said to Vidar, his voice dripping with disdain.

Thor throws his hammer towards Laufey's chest in response to the taunts while telling Vidar and the rest to handle the other giants in the throne room.

Vidar reluctantly agrees and launches himself towards the nearest Frost Giant, fighting with reckless abandon. Vidar topples over the Jotun and stomps on its head with brute strength killing the giant. Vidar then dodges an ice spike sent by a smaller Frost Giant and covers himself in a blue aura of pure willpower enhancing his speed and causing the Nordic character for speed to show on Stykyr. He then rushes the Frost Giant and punches it breaking its jaw and causing it to fall to the floor.1

"I knew this would be a bad idea", yells Loki after being shown that he was a Jotun as well.

Vidar continues his rampage against the Frost Giants with Thor as Sif tries to get them to leave. Failing that the group minus Vidar and Thor run away from a Frost Beast that Laufey has summoned.

Vidar slams his hands on the ground, the color of his aura switching to red and the staff's character being replaced with the character for smash, causing the floor to ripple and the giants to be pushed back into a massive lighting strike unleased by Thor. Vidar seeing that his group are in danger from the Frost Beast grabs his staff and jumps into the air with aura changing into a dark blue, extending his staff an absurd length and piercing the head of the threatening beast, killing it instantly.

Odin then arrives on top of of Sleipnir, the eight-legged horse seeking to compromise with the King Jotunheim.

"You and I can end this here and now before there's futher bloodshed.", Odin says while seeming to wobble in an weakend state.

"We are beyond diplomacy now All-Father", Laufey responds seeking to attack Odin with a ice dagger and in response is sent back by the Bifrost which also sends the Asgardians back home.

"You all have forgotten everything I have taught you about a warriors patience.", Odin says to Thor, Loki, and Vidar.

"You would rather give a speech while Asgard crumbles!", Thor yells at his father.

"The Frost Giants deserved to be punished. They have attacked our home father! You have done so before. It is the way we rule! I was simply doing what we thought was best. I was trying to live up to you!", Vidar exclaimed, desperately trying for his father to see it his way.

"That is the problem boy! If you had thought for yourself you could see what you and Thor have wrought upon Asgard is the horror of war! You have both betrayed the express command of your king. Through your arrogance and stupidity, you've opened these peaceful lands to desolation! You both are unworthy of these realms and unworthy of your title and of the loved ones you have both betrayed. I, Odin All-Father, now take your power and cast you out!", Odin decrees while sending Vidar and Thor to Earth destroying their armor and sealing Mjolnir and Stykyr. Hoping for Thor to learn humility and Vidar to learn confidence.
