Chapter 131: Fire Moth
- Volume III: Faith Extinguished In Previous Era -
What should she do now? Lee sat on a park bench, pondering her life.
Although her body was quite well-developed, she was only fifteen years old. She'd graduated from middle school just two days ago.
Because of her excellent grades, her middle school was willing to recommend her to Chiba Academy, the best high school in Nagazora City. Most of the students there were from wealthy families, or extremely talented commoners.
The middle school principal had high hopes for Lee, an orphan who was still so motivated, and thought she deserved the best education. He was willing to pay the exorbitant tuition, a very responsible person.
But Lee was hesitant.
First, she didn't want to go to school – or rather, anyone who had experienced the education system in China wouldn't love going to school.
Second, since this was a Honkai world, schooling was practically useless. Unless you had intellect comparable to Otto and extraordinary luck, no amount of intelligence could make you stronger.
MEI from the Previous Era was smart, right? But she still died from a minor Honkai infection.
Lee's mission was to get stronger and harvest energy, so she wouldn't do anything meaningless.
"Hearing the name Chiba Academy got me excited, but there's no one I know there..."
Lee sighed, her head aching. She'd hoped to find Mei or Kiana, or even Kevin, but after searching through the entire school's roster, she didn't find anyone familiar.
Not knowing where she was made her confused about her next step.
If only she could connect to the System, she could ask it for help. If only there was outside help –
Outside help?
Lee's eyes lit up. Right, there was that!
The forum, activate!
[I'm so done, Kalpas is way too hard to beat]
[I think Su was harder. He removed my attack buttons, I didn't even see that coming]
[A mental-type warrior with off-field attacks is totally reasonable~]
[Pardo is way more ridiculous. I was halfway through the fight when she stole my signets!]
[Do you like the increasingly numerous Mebius? Kill one and two more appear, devs I swear I'll I XXXX]
[Am I playing a roguelike or a Souls-like game? The Boss difficulty is too over-the-top!]
"…"
Lee stared blankly at the forum. It was filled with heated discussions about different boss strategies, skill combinations, and complaints about the developers' families, a typical gaming forum.
But, shouldn't this forum be discussing things related to her current world? Why were they talking about things she'd never heard of?
Who was Pardo? Mebius? Su? Kalpas? Aponia?
She didn't recognize any of these names!
Was this forum broken?
Lee sighed and kept reading, hoping to find some discussion about the plot to help her determine her current timeline.
Finally, she saw a familiar name - Elysia!
She remembered hearing that name from Liu Yue.
Elysia, a bad woman connected to Kevin and World Serpent… If they were talking about Elysia, then this place must be related to the Previous Era, right?
Then why hadn't she found Kevin's or MEI's names at Chiba Academy?
Had she arrived too early?
How early had she arrived, and should she still go to school? If she arrived too early, and they didn't enroll by the time she graduated, she'd have wasted her time.
Was there a more efficient way?
"…Fire Moth?"
Lee murmured the name.
If she remembered correctly, that was the biggest Honkai resistance organization in the Previous Era, the combined version of Schicksal and Anti-Entropy in the modern era. Kevin and MEI also joined it later and became Fire Moth warriors.
Should she just skip school and try to join the Fire Moth?
After all, Fire Moth wasn't a three-year school. Unless Kevin and MEI hadn't joined Fire Moth by the time she died, she'd meet them eventually.
Then, she could get close to them by being a comrade and a senior, a perfect plan.
And Fire Moth, as the strongest organization in the Previous Era, must have methods to make people stronger.
Joining Fire Moth would solve both her goals: get stronger and harvest energy. Brilliant!
Having made up her mind, Lee slowly stood up.
Now that she had a goal, everything else was easy.
Although Lee was strong, that didn't make her a meathead. In fact, because of the Laborer Skill Set, she was practically flawless.
Hacking and network security were also forms of labor. Although Lee's skill wasn't top-tier, it was enough to find traces of Fire Moth online.
But even that wasn't enough to get her into Fire Moth.
She was still just a fifteen-year-old kid, and Fire Moth was a massive global organization. How could they let some kid who had a bit of hacking skill join?
They were impressed by her talent and would consider her a future technical personnel. After checking Lee's background, they decided to let her be.
Seeing this, Lee stated –
"I'm here to apply as a combatant." The slender girl said seriously. "Hacking skills are just for my part-time job."
Lee's words made the staff laugh. Their combatants were all well-built elite soldiers. How could a young girl join the combat unit?
Did she think she was a magical girl?
Lee liked this situation, because she could prove her strength with her fists, no need for explanations.
After beating the last combatant of the Nagazora City branch, Lee successfully became Fire Moth's youngest combatant.
