Chapter 6: Chapter 6: Shadows of the Past.
Oscorp.
The name lingered in my mind long after I'd swiped that tablet from the break-in last night. Sitting on my bed with my laptop open, I went through the encrypted files I'd managed to extract.
"Project Venom."
The name sent a chill down my spine. If the MCU was anything like the comics, I was in for a whole new level of trouble. Symbiotes weren't just your average villains; they were nightmares wrapped in goo.
I sighed, rubbing my temples. "Why can't it ever be just normal bad guys?"
I heard Aunt May calling from downstairs. "Peter! Breakfast!"
I quickly hid the tablet under my bed and shut my laptop. "Coming!"
At school, things weren't much better.
MJ was watching me closely, and I could tell she was still suspicious. "So… you're extra tired today. Another late-night study session?"
I smiled nervously. "Yeah, something like that."
She narrowed her eyes. "Uh-huh. You know, you're terrible at lying."
"I'm just… dealing with a lot," I admitted, which wasn't a total lie. "You know, school, life, existential crises."
MJ smirked. "Well, if you need to talk, I'm here, Tiger."
I felt a twinge of guilt. MJ was amazing, and I hated keeping secrets from her, but how was I supposed to explain all this?
That night, I decided to dig deeper into Oscorp.
Dressed in my sleek new suit, I perched on the side of the Oscorp Tower, my HUD scanning the building for vulnerabilities. The break-in last night wasn't a random heist—it was deliberate. Someone wanted those files, and that meant Norman Osborn was hiding something big.
"Karen, any heat signatures inside?" I asked.
"No unauthorized personnel detected. Oscorp security has doubled patrols."
"Guess they're on edge after last night," I muttered, sticking to the glass like a ninja.
Slipping inside through a vent, I crawled through the building unnoticed, eventually finding my way to a restricted lab. The place was dark, with only the glow of monitors casting eerie shadows across the walls.
I tapped into the system using a portable USB Tony had given me. "Let's see what secrets you've got, Norman."
The files were even worse than I imagined. Experimentation on human subjects, enhancement drugs, and—most disturbing of all—biological augmentations using alien DNA.
I froze when I saw the notes attached. Chitauri samples retrieved post-Avengers battle.
"So that's what this is about…" I whispered. Oscorp was playing with extraterrestrial genetics, and if I was right, "Project Venom" might be their latest experiment.
Suddenly, my spider-sense exploded.
I barely ducked in time to avoid a black, clawed hand slashing through the air where my head had been. I flipped backward, landing in a crouch, and came face to face with something out of my worst nightmares.
A man—no, a creature—stood before me, his skin covered in a sleek black substance that pulsed and shifted unnaturally. His eyes were pure white, and his mouth curled into a jagged grin filled with razor-sharp teeth.
"Spider-Man," it hissed. "We've been waiting for you."
I gulped. "Yeah, I get that a lot. Who… or what are you?"
"We… are Venom."
Oh, crap.
The fight was chaos.
Venom lunged at me with inhuman speed, his black tendrils lashing out like whips. I flipped out of the way, firing web after web to slow him down, but he just tore through them like tissue paper.
"Karen! Weak spots?" I yelled, dodging another strike.
"Analyzing… vulnerability detected: high-frequency sound waves."
I scrambled to a nearby workstation and grabbed a sonic emitter, dialing it up to full blast. "Hope you're not a fan of loud music, buddy."
I activated it, and Venom screeched in agony, thrashing wildly as the sound waves disrupted his form. Taking advantage, I fired a web at his face, blinding him momentarily before swinging out of the lab.
But Venom wasn't done. He recovered faster than I expected and followed me, bursting through the walls with terrifying speed.
"Come on, man, I just fixed this suit!" I groaned, flipping down the hallway.
I led him to an industrial area where Oscorp kept its containment units. I spotted a large cryo-chamber and quickly lured Venom inside. The moment he lunged at me, I fired a web at the console, freezing the chamber shut around him.
Venom pounded on the ice, roaring in frustration. "This… isn't… over, Spider-Man!"
I panted, leaning against the wall. "Yeah, yeah… they all say that."
I barely made it back home in one piece.
Collapsing onto my bed, I stared at the ceiling, my mind racing. Venom was here. Oscorp was meddling with alien DNA. And I had just made myself public enemy number one in Norman Osborn's book.
What was I even doing? This wasn't just stopping muggers anymore.
I was in way over my head.
I sighed and grabbed my phone, scrolling through my texts. MJ had sent me a message.
MJ: "Hope you're okay, Tiger. Call me if you need to talk."
I smiled faintly. Maybe I should tell her. Just… not yet.
Before I could dwell on it too much, another message popped up—this time from a blocked number.
"Meet me at the Brooklyn Bridge. We need to talk."
I frowned. "Great. Now what?"
