Chapter 7: Chapter 7: The Sinister Rise.
Brooklyn Bridge – Midnight.
I perched on one of the massive support beams, my heart pounding in my chest. The wind whipped around me, and the city lights stretched endlessly in every direction. Whoever sent that anonymous message wanted to meet here.
Part of me screamed that this was a trap, but curiosity (and maybe a bit of arrogance) won out.
A shadowy figure stepped out onto the bridge's main walkway, trench coat billowing. He looked up and spoke in a low, gravelly voice. "You came. Good."
I dropped down in a crouch a few feet away. "Yeah, yeah. Cryptic texts, midnight rendezvous—real original. Who are you?"
The man stepped into the light. His bald head glistened, and his face was stern and weathered with age.
I tensed. Adrian Toomes. The Vulture.
"You've been busy, Spider-Man," he said, eyes narrowing. "And you're getting in the way of some powerful people."
I crossed my arms. "If by 'powerful' you mean crazy, then yeah. It's kinda my thing."
Toomes smirked. "You're smart, kid. But you're playing in a league that'll eat you alive."
I tilted my head. "And let me guess, you're here to scare me off?"
"No," he said, stepping closer. "I'm here to warn you. You think Oscorp and their little experiments are bad? You have no idea what's coming."
I swallowed hard. "What's coming?"
Toomes leaned in. "A storm. And you're right in the middle of it."
Before I could respond, I heard the unmistakable sound of thrusters firing. I barely had time to react before a winged suit shot down from above, nearly taking my head off.
I flipped backward, landing in a defensive stance. Toomes was already airborne, his mechanical wings glowing ominously. "Next time, kid," he called out before disappearing into the night.
I sighed. "Great. Now the villains are sending ominous threats. Fantastic."
The next day at school, things felt… off.
Everyone seemed normal, but I couldn't shake the feeling that I was being watched. Every time I glanced around, it was like someone ducked out of view just before I could see them.
MJ noticed. "Peter, are you okay? You look like you've seen a ghost."
I forced a smile. "Just… tired. Long night."
MJ stared at me, unconvinced. "You're always having long nights lately."
Before I could come up with an excuse, Flash Thompson sauntered over, grinning like the smug jerk he was. "Hey Parker, enjoying your celebrity status? Saw the news this morning—some guy in a bird suit handing you your butt."
I rolled my eyes. "Nice to see you're keeping up with current events, Flash."
He leaned in. "Be careful, Parker. Sounds like your luck's running out."
Later that night, I found out how right he was.
I was swinging through the city when Karen's voice chimed in.
"Multiple disturbances detected in Midtown. Reports of superhuman activity."
"Define 'superhuman,' Karen," I said, picking up speed.
"Unconfirmed reports of enhanced individuals engaging in property destruction."
I groaned. "Great. Sounds like my cue."
As I approached the area, my spider-sense kicked into overdrive. I landed on a rooftop and looked down, my heart sinking.
Four figures were tearing through a construction site. And not just any figures. Familiar ones.
Electro, Sandman, Rhino… and Shocker.
I swallowed hard. "Oh, you've got to be kidding me."
The quartet was wreaking havoc, smashing equipment and throwing sparks everywhere. Workers fled in terror as Sandman towered over the site, his massive fists crushing steel beams like twigs.
"Alright, think, Parker," I muttered. "Divide and conquer?"
Before I could plan further, Electro spotted me. "Hey, look who decided to show up!" he cackled, sending a bolt of electricity in my direction.
I barely dodged, flipping behind a crane for cover. "Okay, okay, bad start," I muttered.
Rhino charged, smashing through the debris like a runaway train. I fired a web to a steel beam, swinging away just in time as he plowed through the spot I had just occupied.
"Spidey, you're outnumbered!" Shocker yelled, firing an energy blast from his gauntlets.
I webbed up some scaffolding and yanked it down in front of him. "Yeah, but I make it look good!"
This wasn't going well. They were too coordinated, working together like a well-oiled machine. And then it hit me—this wasn't random.
They were waiting for me.
I barely avoided Sandman's giant fist when I heard another voice echo through the site. "Enough!"
I froze. Standing atop a stack of shipping containers, clad in a green suit with a metal exoskeleton, was Norman Osborn.
"Spider-Man," he said with a smirk, "so good of you to join us."
I swallowed hard. "So… what's this? Some kind of villain team-up?"
Osborn chuckled darkly. "We prefer the term… Sinister Six."
Six?! My eyes darted around. There were only five of them…
Then something cold and metallic wrapped around my ankles, yanking me off the ground.
I struggled, twisting around to see the final member of the team—Doctor Octopus.
His mechanical arms held me tight as he smirked. "I must say, Parker, you're a hard one to catch."
Panic flooded my veins. "You guys really went all out, huh?"
Osborn's smile widened. "And we're just getting started."
The fight was brutal.
They came at me from all sides. Sandman buried me under a wave of debris, Electro zapped me through my webbing, and Rhino nearly crushed me like a bug. I was fast, but they were relentless.
I fought back, using my agility to keep them guessing. A well-placed web yanked Electro off his feet, and I managed to blind Shocker with a blast of webbing to the face.
But it wasn't enough. I was outnumbered and overwhelmed.
Karen's voice crackled in my ear. "Warning: multiple critical injuries sustained."
I gritted my teeth, leaping onto a rooftop and gasping for breath. I needed to retreat. Now.
But Osborn's voice rang out. "Running away, Spider-Man? How disappointing."
I fired a web and swung away, heart pounding in my chest. I barely made it out, escaping into the shadows of the city.
Collapsing onto a rooftop, I stared at the skyline, my chest heaving.
They were stronger than I expected. Smarter.
I wasn't ready for this.
And now, they knew it.
