The Spider:AHero’s Awakening

Chapter 5: Chapter 5: Suiting Up.

The new suit changed everything.

I wasn't just some guy in a hoodie anymore—I felt like a real superhero. The fabric stretched perfectly with my movements, the lenses adjusted to lighting conditions automatically, and the AI in my earpiece (which I dubbed "Karen") provided real-time information on crime hotspots and police activity.

Tony Stark really outdid himself.

But with the upgrades came a greater sense of responsibility. I couldn't afford to make mistakes anymore—especially not with a billionaire genius keeping tabs on me.

My first test came sooner than I expected.

It was a quiet Wednesday evening. I was perched on a rooftop, scanning the streets below when Karen's voice chimed in.

"Armed robbery in progress, 5th Avenue and 23rd Street. Three suspects, possibly armed."

I grinned. "Let's get to work."

Launching myself off the building, I swung through the air, feeling more confident than ever. The web-shooters deployed with precision, the HUD marked the crime scene below, and my landing was smoother than before.

I peeked through the window of the small jewelry store and saw three masked men waving guns at the terrified employees.

"Okay, Spidey," I whispered. "Time to make an entrance."

I shot a web at the ceiling and swung inside, landing dramatically on the counter. "Alright, gentlemen, let's keep this quick. I have homework due tomorrow."

The robbers spun around, startled. One of them aimed his gun at me.

"Whoa, whoa!" I said, throwing my hands up. "Guns are so last season. Try… this instead!"

I fired a web at his weapon, yanking it away. The other two lunged at me, but I easily flipped over them, sticking to the ceiling and webbing them up before they even knew what hit them.

"Seriously, guys, what happened to good old-fashioned stealing without the guns?" I quipped, securing the last of them.

The employees clapped, relieved. "Th-thank you, Spider-Man!"

"Just doing my thing," I said, saluting as I swung out the window.

Another win for your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.

Later that night, I found myself sitting on top of the Queensboro Bridge, staring out over the glittering city.

I'd been doing this hero thing for a while now, but something about tonight felt… different. The stakes were rising. People were starting to recognize me, cheer for me. Even the cops were beginning to trust me.

Maybe I really could do this. Maybe I could be the hero Peter Parker was always meant to be.

But deep down, I knew the threats were only going to get worse.

The next day at school, reality hit hard.

Between my nighttime activities and my superhero extracurriculars, my grades were slipping. MJ noticed first.

"Peter," she said, cornering me at my locker. "Your test scores came in. You flunked physics?"

I winced. "Yeah, uh… I've been distracted."

MJ crossed her arms. "Distracted? Peter, you love physics. What's going on?"

"I—uh—" I scrambled for an excuse. "Just… stressed about, you know, life stuff."

She narrowed her eyes but didn't push further. "Well, you better fix it. Mr. Harrington's threatening to call your aunt."

Crap. The last thing I needed was Aunt May breathing down my neck while I was trying to save the city.

"Noted," I said, shutting my locker and walking away.

That night, things escalated.

I was web-swinging across the skyline when Karen's voice alerted me to something new.

"Suspicious activity detected near Oscorp Tower. Several unauthorized individuals accessing restricted areas."

Oscorp? That was new. I adjusted my course, heading straight for the towering skyscraper that loomed over the city.

When I arrived, I perched on the side of the building, using my enhanced lenses to zoom in. Several figures in black tactical gear were sneaking into one of the lower floors, bypassing security with expert precision.

"Looks like we got some late-night shoppers," I muttered.

I shot a web to the next building and swung down silently, landing just above the intruders. Listening in, I caught bits and pieces of their conversation.

"-grab the data-"

"-Norman doesn't know we're here-"

"-keep it quiet-"

My spider-sense tingled. These guys weren't amateurs.

I dropped down behind them and cleared my throat. "Hey guys, need help finding something?"

They spun around, drawing weapons. Before they could react, I shot a web, disarming one of them, then flipped over another, kicking him into the wall.

But one of them was faster than expected. He pulled out a baton and swung it at me, forcing me to dodge. I went in for a punch, but he blocked it with surprising strength.

"Whoa, you're not a regular thug," I said, ducking under his next swing.

He smirked. "You're not the only one with upgrades, Spider-Man."

Before I could ask what that meant, he pressed a button on his belt, and suddenly his arms glowed with mechanical strength.

"Uh-oh."

The guy lunged at me, and I barely dodged in time. He grabbed a metal beam and swung it like a bat, nearly taking my head off.

"Karen, scan this guy!" I shouted, flipping away.

"Analyzing… enhanced musculature detected. Possible exoskeleton technology."

Great. So now I was fighting knockoff super-soldiers.

I dodged his attacks and tried to web him up, but he ripped through my webs like they were paper. "Okay, that's just rude," I muttered.

I needed to end this fast. Using my agility, I jumped onto the ceiling and fired a web to the ground, pulling it tight. When he charged at me again, I yanked hard, sending him tumbling face-first onto the floor.

I landed on his chest and webbed him up. "Nighty night, Terminator."

The other thugs had already fled, but I found a tablet they dropped. I grabbed it and swung out before security could arrive.

Perching on a rooftop, I flipped through the files.

Norman Osborn. Genetic experiments. Something called "Project Venom."

"Well, that's not ominous at all," I muttered.

Back home, I barely had time to process what happened before Aunt May knocked on my door.

"Peter? Can we talk?"

I quickly shoved the tablet under my bed. "Uh, yeah! Come in!"

She entered, looking concerned. "I know you've been… busy lately. And I just want you to know, whatever it is, I'm here, okay?"

I smiled, guilt gnawing at me. "Thanks, Aunt May. I appreciate it."

She smiled back, ruffling my hair. "Now, get some sleep. And no more staying up late, okay?"

I chuckled. "No promises."

As she left, I lay back on my bed, staring at the ceiling.

Oscorp was up to something. And it looked like I was going to have to be the one to stop it.
