Chapter 78: 78: My full name is Fenrir, my nickname is Husky
Under the pale moonlight, Kevin held his breath, the magic sword Fragrak glowing with a blinding golden light. He called out its true name, and the blade responded with a radiant surge of energy. With all his might, Kevin swung the sword downward, releasing a wave of power that illuminated the dark, snowy battlefield.
Skadi watched in awe as the light obliterated the surrounding darkness, her red eyes reflecting the dazzling display. Even the icy wind of Solemheim seemed to pause, giving way to the overwhelming brilliance of the attack.
"Fragrak!"
Shaki, the mountain giant, stared at the oncoming energy, his expression shifting from disdain to surprise. His pride as a warrior of the giants refused to let him back down. With a thunderous roar, he cast aside his axe and transformed into his true form—a giant towering as high as the surrounding mountains.
Shaki crossed his massive arms, bracing himself as the golden energy crashed into him with devastating force. The collision shook the ground, sending shockwaves rippling outward. The light engulfed Shaki, its brilliance carving deep trenches into the frozen earth and splitting the distant mountain in half.
When the light faded, Shaki remained standing, but his form was battered. His roar of defiance echoed across the battlefield as he raised his giant axe and cleaved the lingering energy in two with a single swing.
The remnants of the attack scattered into the wind, leaving behind an eerie silence.
Kevin stumbled back, panting heavily. Despite the sheer force of his attack, Shaki had endured it. The giant stood at full height, his aura unyielding.
"Kevin, get behind me!" Skadi shouted, her voice laced with urgency. She raised her arms, summoning an immense wall of ice that rose between them and Shaki.
The massive ice barrier stood fifty stories tall, its crystalline surface gleaming under the moonlight. As Shaki swung his axe again, the ice wall fractured into countless shards, scattering into the night like glittering stars.
Kevin collapsed to his knees, the exhaustion from channeling so much magic catching up to him. He glanced at Skadi, who was panting heavily but still standing tall. The frost-covered ground around her mirrored the sheer intensity of her powers.
"Skadi..." Kevin muttered, a small smile tugging at his lips.
"Hm?"
"You're amazing," he said simply, his voice tinged with awe.
Before Skadi could respond, a deep rumbling voice cut through the air.
"Human," Shaki growled, his voice booming like an avalanche. "Do you think you can stand against me with such tricks?!"
Kevin sighed and slumped onto the icy ground. "I gave it my best shot. You've gotta admit, I didn't do half bad."
With a casual motion, he stuck Fragrak into the ground and leaned back, looking up at the sky.
Then, Kevin raised his voice and yelled, "You guys are really taking your time! How long do you expect me to stall this guy?!"
As if on cue, a group of shining figures descended onto the battlefield. Each figure radiated divine energy, their armor glinting like polished gold under the moonlight.
At the forefront was Slude, her golden hair cascading behind her as she rushed to Kevin's side. Kneeling beside him, she placed a glowing hand on his shoulder, her red eyes scanning him for injuries.
"Are you okay?" Slude asked, her voice soft but firm.
Kevin chuckled weakly. "Just a little tired. I could use a nap."
Behind her, Tyr, the god of war and justice, approached. His imposing figure and the enormous sword on his back made him an intimidating presence. However, his expression was anything but composed.
"Kevin!" Tyr shouted, his voice filled with exasperation.
Kevin looked up, startled. "Tyr? What are you doing here?"
Tyr glared at him, his brow furrowed. "What am I doing here? You forgot something, didn't you?"
Before Kevin could respond, Tyr reached into his cloak and pulled out a handful of shimmering silver fur.
The fur transformed into a massive wolf with sleek, silvery fur and piercing golden eyes. Its presence was commanding, and it exuded a primal aura that made even the Valkyries pause.
Fenrir, the demon wolf that shakes the earth, had arrived.
Fenrir turned his golden eyes on Kevin, his expression unreadable. Then, without warning, he lunged, pinning Kevin to the ground.
"Kevin!" Fenrir growled, his voice low and menacing. "You stood me up again! Do you have a death wish?!"
"Wait, wait! Let me explain!" Kevin shouted, struggling under Fenrir's massive paws.
"Explain?" Fenrir bared his fangs. "Do you think I'm a fool?"
Kevin flailed helplessly as Fenrir began gnawing at his armor. "Okay, okay, I'm sorry! I promise I'll never do it again!"
The absurdity of the scene left Skadi stunned. She glanced at Slude, who appeared completely unfazed.
"Shouldn't we... do something?" Skadi asked hesitantly.
Slude shook her head. "He'll be fine. Fenrir doesn't kill him—he just likes to teach him a lesson."
"Is that supposed to be comforting?" Skadi muttered, watching Kevin's increasingly desperate attempts to fend off the demon wolf.
After several agonizing minutes, Fenrir finally released Kevin. The young warrior sat up, disheveled and humiliated, as Fenrir loomed over him.
"Alright, Kevin," Fenrir growled. "You get one more chance. But if you stand me up again, I'll bite your head off!"
Kevin raised his hands in mock surrender. "Deal. I'll never stand you up again. Happy now?"
Fenrir snorted and turned his attention to Shaki. "Is that your enemy?"
Kevin followed Fenrir's gaze. "Yeah. Can you take him?"
Fenrir tilted his head thoughtfully. "If I use my full power, I can hold him off. But I can't defeat him in this form."
"Good enough for me." Kevin clapped Fenrir on the side, grinning. "Let's make some noise."
As Fenrir transformed into a massive, towering wolf, Skadi approached Kevin.
"Is that really Fenrir?" she asked, her voice filled with awe.
"Yep," Kevin replied casually.
"But earlier..." Skadi hesitated. "Didn't you call him... Husky?"
Kevin grinned sheepishly. "Oh, that's just his nickname. You know, when you get to know him, he's more of a Husky than a Fenrir."
Skadi blinked, momentarily at a loss for words. Then, she burst into laughter.
"Kevin," she said between giggles, "you're unbelievable."
Kevin shrugged, a lopsided grin on his face. "What can I say? It's a gift."
