Chapter 79: 79: Killing the Mountain Giant Shaki
The moonlight illuminated the icy battlefield, casting a silver glow on the shattered landscape. Kevin stood tall, watching the devastation that had been wrought. Despite his exhaustion, he couldn't suppress a faint smirk of satisfaction.
Skadi, nearby, turned her curious gaze on Kevin, a question flickering in her crimson eyes. Before she could ask, Neil, perched on her shoulder, let out a squawk of protest.
"Don't believe him so easily!" Neil scolded. "This brat loves playing tricks. Fenrir having a nickname like Husky? Ridiculous! I've known Fenrir longer than he has, and I've never heard that nonsense!"
Kevin chuckled, raising his hands defensively. "What can I say? Maybe Fenrir and I just have a deeper bond."
Neil glared at him suspiciously but chose not to press further. Skadi, meanwhile, seemed to take Kevin at his word. She laughed softly, brushing the thought aside.
Kevin turned his attention to the chaotic scene ahead. Tyr, Fenrir, and the Valkyries were locked in battle with Shaki, who wielded his giant axe with terrifying force. The sheer power of the blows sent shockwaves through the air, toppling trees and shattering ice.
Despite the overwhelming strength of his opponents, Shaki held his ground, roaring with defiance. His towering form loomed like a mountain, a testament to the might of the giants.
Kevin's thoughts turned inward as he analyzed the situation. The clash between gods and giants reminded him of his own limitations. Even with Fragrak, the magic sword renowned as a god-slaying weapon, he knew he was far from the pinnacle of power in this world.
"How long will I remain so weak?" he muttered to himself.
Neil heard him and rolled her eyes. "Weak? You're the one who just forced Shaki into a corner! Be a little more human, will you?"
Skadi, who had overheard as well, tilted her head in confusion. "Weak? Kevin, you're anything but weak."
Kevin offered her a faint smile but said nothing, his gaze fixed on the battlefield.
As the battle dragged on, Shaki's movements grew more labored. Despite his immense strength, even he could not withstand the combined assault of Fenrir, Tyr, and the Valkyries for long.
With a furious roar, Shaki planted his feet firmly on the ground and raised his massive axe. Dark magic radiated from the weapon, swirling ominously as he prepared to unleash his ultimate attack.
"This is it," Kevin murmured, his grip tightening on Fragrak.
As Shaki swung the axe downward, Kevin acted. Channeling his magic, he activated a rune etched into the air before him. In a flash, he teleported to Slude's side, who caught him mid-air to prevent him from collapsing.
The moment Kevin left, Fragrak began to glow with a malevolent light, reacting to the giant's attack. It reversed the energy flow, nullifying Shaki's ultimate move.
The giant froze in place, his body momentarily paralyzed by the sword's counterattack. Before he could recover, the Valkyries seized the opportunity, hurling their pseudo-divine spears at Shaki. The weapons pierced his hands and feet, pinning him to the ground.
"Now!" Kevin shouted, his voice echoing across the battlefield.
Skadi hesitated for a moment, torn between her love for her father and the necessity of the moment. With a deep breath, she summoned her divine powers, shrinking Shaki's form. As his towering body diminished, the Valkyries tightened their hold, ensuring he could not escape.
"Father..." Skadi whispered, her voice trembling.
Pinned and weakened, Shaki glared at Kevin with unbridled hatred. "You... human... how dare you!"
Kevin stepped forward, ignoring the giant's venomous gaze. "This ends here, Shaki. Your sacrifice won't bring the peace you hope for—it'll only bring more pain to Skadi. I won't let that happen."
Before Shaki could respond, the battlefield was filled with the sound of approaching footsteps. Kevin turned his head, his face darkening.
"They're here," he muttered.
The reinforcements from Solemheim arrived in the distance—giant warriors, their weapons gleaming in the moonlight. Kevin knew they couldn't stay any longer.
"Slude, we need to go!" he called out.
"What about Shaki?" she asked.
Kevin's eyes darted to Fenrir, who stood nearby, watching the approaching giants. An idea struck him.
"Fenrir!" Kevin shouted. "I need your help one more time."
The giant wolf tilted its head curiously. "What now, Kevin?"
"Buy us time," Kevin said simply.
Fenrir grinned, baring his fangs. "Fine. But you owe me, human."
With a deafening roar, Fenrir leapt toward the incoming giants, his massive form blocking their advance.
The group made their way to the Rainbow Bridge, carrying Skadi and the restrained Shaki with them. Kevin, though battered and bruised, led the charge.
When they finally reached the bridge, Kevin turned to look back at the battlefield one last time. Fenrir's massive silhouette stood defiantly against the tide of giants, his presence a testament to his unmatched power.
"Thank you," Kevin whispered before stepping onto the bridge.
By the time the giants arrived at the Ifingel River, Kevin and his group had already crossed into Asgard. The sight of the empty battlefield enraged them, their roars echoing across the icy landscape.
Nigel, the leader of the reinforcements, clenched his fists in frustration. "We were too late," he growled.
Looking toward the distance, Nigel muttered, "Who is this Kevin? And how did he manage to outwit us?"
Back in Solemheim, the Giant King listened to the report from his warriors. His face was calm, betraying no emotion.
"Prepare the kingdom," he said finally. "We may not go to war yet, but this Kevin... he is a problem we cannot ignore."
"Your Majesty," one of the guards interjected. "A giant from the deep-sea clan claims to know Kevin's origins."
The Giant King's eyes narrowed. "Bring him to me."
As the guard left to carry out the order, the Giant King leaned back in his throne, a contemplative expression on his face.
"This Kevin... the so-called Man of Miracles..." he murmured. "We shall see if his miracles can withstand the might of giants."
