The Heavenly Demon Does Home Repairs

Chapter 2 - I Am the Heavenly Demon (2)

“Ugh.”

With a short groan, the Heavenly Demon opened his eyes.

“I lost consciousness?”

He had even mastered the Cold Soul Mental Technique that assassins use. His mental strength was tougher than a steel cord.

“Since mastering martial arts, I have never once lost consciousness.”

As he looked around, he noticed yellow earthen walls.

Sunlight streamed softly through the paper-covered wooden door, indicating that it was daytime.

“Where in the world is this?”

He stood up, but his head hit the low ceiling with a thud.

The ceiling was too low for the Heavenly Demon, who stood almost seven feet tall.

Creak.

When he opened the wooden door, he saw strange objects piled up inside.

The surroundings were dark and damp, suggesting that it was some kind of storage room.

Walking through a narrow passageway, he stepped outside, where a brightly lit, unfamiliar space came into view.

“Hmm.”

It was a neatly organized office.

On a well-arranged desk lay various items and books, and in the center stood a round table with chairs around it.

“How curious. Is this the house of a sorcerer?”

The Heavenly Demon gazed up at the intricate lights hanging from the ceiling before stepping through a transparent glass door and heading outside.

Honk!

A loud trumpet sound echoed from somewhere, revealing a scene unlike anything he had ever seen before.

A polished street. Metal carriages racing at incredible speed. People walking around in peculiar clothing.

“Where am I?”

As he stood, puzzled, a familiar figure approached him from the entrance—it was the girl he had seen in the courtyard the previous night.

Carrying a large bag, the girl blinked as she saw him.

“You’re finally awake?”

“Are you speaking to me?”

“Who else would I be talking to?”

“How did I end up here?”

“Oh, you wouldn’t wake up no matter what, so I couldn’t just leave you outside. I put you in the storage room to rest for a while.”

She pointed to the store he had just emerged from.

“This is my shop.”

Now that he looked closer, the traditional Korean house seemed to have living quarters in the back, with the front part being the store.

The Heavenly Demon looked up at the rustic wooden sign.

“Bokbok Interiors?”

He didn’t know why, but somehow, he could read the unfamiliar characters with ease.

“What kind of place is this?”

“Don’t you know Hangul? It’s an interior design shop.”

“That’s the first time I’ve heard of such a thing.”

He glanced between the slender girl and the well-kept store, nodding.

“You’ve already become the owner of a shop like this? Impressive, young la…”

He barely swallowed the words “stumpy girl” in time.

“I’m not a ‘young girl!’ I’m much older than you think!”

The girl blushed and awkwardly handed him a business card from her pocket.

“If you feel unwell, just give me a call. After all, it’s kind of my fault.”

“What fault are you talking about?”

“Th-that thing.”

Her face flushed red as she recalled striking his lower abdomen twice the previous night.

“If it hurts, call me.”

The Heavenly Demon stared at the business card, murmuring.

“Jang Chaewon. So your name is Jang Chaewon?”

“I told you, I’m not a ‘young girl!’”

“So, you really are someone who has reversed the aging process.”

The Heavenly Demon looked intently at Jang Chaewon, who appeared to be around eighteen.

“Indeed… Your internal power must be beyond imagination.”

Recalling the previous night, the Heavenly Demon narrowed his eyes.

‘That’s how she was able to destroy my invincible body.’

The Heavenly Demon was amazed.

He had thought he had reached the pinnacle of martial arts, with nowhere left to ascend. Yet, here was a chance to grow even further.

“You really are obsessed with martial arts, aren’t you?”

“What do you mean?”

The girl sighed as she looked at his outfit, with his chest and arms exposed.

“You shouldn’t walk around in clothes like that. Aren’t you embarrassed for people to see?”

“These clothes?”

The Heavenly Demon pointed to his robe with a grand expression.

“This is the Blood-Drenched Battle Robe, the finest protective garment in all of the martial world.”

“What?”

“It is fireproof, blade-resistant, and keeps the wearer at a comfortable temperature at all times.”

He seemed proud as he spoke.

Jang Chaewon couldn’t help but drop her shoulders, feeling like she was dealing with a child showing off a toy.

“Okay, sure. Now that you’re awake, why don’t you leave?”

The Heavenly Demon tilted his head.

“Leave? Didn’t you cling to me desperately just last night?”

“That was because I lost my senses in the heat of the moment. I realized there’s no way even someone as big and strong as you could have destroyed the Spirit Tree, which was protected by earth spirits. Something else must have happened.”

“Wasn’t it some expensive item?”

“Ah, well, I’d almost forgotten because it’s been a while.”

Jang Chaewon smiled and waved her hand.

“I have insurance. It covers damages caused by natural disasters.”

“Hmm.”

The Heavenly Demon didn’t understand a word she was saying, but from her bright smile, he assumed the situation had been resolved.

“Very well. If that is the case, I shall leave.”

“Yeah, yeah. Take care.”

As the Heavenly Demon opened the glass door and walked outside, Jang Chaewon sat down at her desk and turned on her laptop.

But she felt a strange sensation. Glancing at the monitor, she leaned her head out to look outside.

“He’s still there?”

For some reason, the Heavenly Demon was still standing outside the store, looking lost.

He stood there, looking around aimlessly, as if he were a child who had lost his way.

“Wandering around half-naked with a muddled mind…”

Propping her chin in her hand, Jang Chaewon shook her head.

“With that size, maybe he’s more of a mountain goblin?”

At that moment, the Heavenly Demon suddenly darted toward the road.

Screeech!

Cars on the road came to a screeching halt, swerving to avoid him as they slammed on the brakes.

The Heavenly Demon, not understanding what was happening, simply stared at the halted cars in confusion.

“Hey, are you trying to get yourself killed?”

“What are you doing in the middle of the road? Move!”

As drivers leaned out of their windows to yell at him, the Heavenly Demon’s eyes flashed with a crimson glow.

“Are you picking a fight with me?”

The drivers, seeing his wrestler-like build and fierce expression, quickly retreated into their cars.

“Must be one of those awakened guys.”

“Yeah, sometimes they act all high and mighty.”

“Low-ranking ones always like to show off to regular people.”

Drivers, mumbling from their windows, carefully maneuvered their cars around him and drove away.

“What’s going on?”

Jang Chaewon, who had stepped outside the store, grabbed the Heavenly Demon by the arm and pulled him back to the sidewalk.

“Are you crazy? What were you doing in the middle of the road?”

The Heavenly Demon followed her back, his expression calm as he explained.

“I was simply curious about what those things were.”

He pointed to the various cars driving along the road.

“Curious? About what? The cars?”

“Cars… Are they self-moving carriages?”

The Heavenly Demon stroked his chin in thought but shook his head.

“I do not understand this at all. Where in the world is this place?”

“Don’t tell me you’ve lost your memory?”

“Impossible. I simply have no idea where this place is. Which direction should I go to reach the Ten Thousand Demons Palace?”

“Ten Thousand Demons Palace?”

Jang Chaewon scanned him up and down, finally nodding.

“Do you work at a Chinese restaurant or something?”

“I don’t understand. What’s a Chinese restaurant?”

“A place that sells black bean noodles. Are you a worker there?”

The Heavenly Demon stared at her for a moment before suddenly bursting into laughter.

“Hahahaha!”

His laughter was so loud and booming that the entire neighborhood seemed to echo with the sound.

“That is the funniest thing I’ve ever heard! Hahaha!”

“Okay, as long as you’re not.”

Jang Chaewon glanced around, sighing.

She had a bad feeling that she shouldn’t be spending too much time with this guy.

“Before I learned martial arts, I had thoughts like that. Starving…”

The Heavenly Demon’s eyes became distant, as if recalling a past memory.

But it didn’t seem like it was a particularly painful memory, as he wore a faint smile.

‘He may be strange, but his eyes are surprisingly clear.’

Watching him closely, Jang Chaewon hesitated before asking cautiously.

“Uh, were you just born recently?”

The Heavenly Demon flinched, surprised.

“Are you serious?”

“Wh-who’s asking who is serious? I just mean… You seem really out of touch with the world…”

As she scratched her head, preparing to continue, an elderly voice called out from the sidewalk.

“Manager Jang! What’re you doing out here?”

An old man with a hunched back stood at the front of the sidewalk, blinking at Jang Chaewon.

“Ah, hello, sir! What brings you here?”

“What do you mean? You said you’d send workers over this morning. They weren’t showing up, so I thought I’d stop by on my way to the store.”

“Right! Oh, but…”

She clapped her hands together, but then immediately dropped her shoulders.

“Last night, the annex collapsed, and all the spirit trees were destroyed.”

“Is that so? Spirit trees, eh? That’s a big loss. Manager Jang, are you going to lose your shop’s sanctuary status?”

“It’s alright. Thankfully, I have insurance.”

“Hmm. Good thing you prepared for that.”

“I’ll get external workers to take care of it for you. Fortunately, this is something human workers can handle.”

As she smiled and reassured the old man, she noticed that the Heavenly Demon’s face had gone pale and sweaty.

“What’s wrong?”

“What do you mean ‘what’s wrong?’ Don’t you see the face on the back of that old man’s head?”

The Heavenly Demon pointed to the back of the old man’s head, where the face of an old woman, eyes closed, was clearly visible.

“His face? Why?”

“There’s another face on the back of his head.”

“Oh, is this your first time meeting him?”

Jang Chaewon giggled, pointing to the old man.

“He’s a dual-faced demon. He reads the fortunes and misfortunes of demons, and sometimes he even tells fortunes.”

“Dual-faced demon? A ghost?”

“What are you talking about? Of course not…”

Jang Chaewon paused, staring closely at the Heavenly Demon’s face.

A gigantic figure, red eyes, and long, protruding fangs—if he grew them, he’d look just like a goblin.

“Wait… are you a demon?”

“A demon?”

The Heavenly Demon blinked.

“I’ve been called every insult by those orthodox fools, but I’ve never been called a demon.”

“What? Then why are your eyes red?”

“When one masters the Reversal Divine Art to its extreme, the Blood Flame Radiance causes the eyes to glow slightly red.”

As she stared at him, Jang Chaewon’s eyes widened in surprise.

“So… you’re human? Looking like that?”

“What do you mean by that?”

“Oh, nothing. I just figured you must’ve had a pretty rough life.”

Her hurried explanation made the Heavenly Demon narrow his eyes suspiciously.

“Of course. No one has lived as fiercely as I have.”

“Y-yeah, I can see that.”

Awkwardly laughing, Jang Chaewon blinked.

“Then how did you get into my house? And how can you see the old man’s other face?”

“What do you mean?”

“I mean, you’re human, right?”

“Hmm.”

The Heavenly Demon fell silent, his expression troubled.

“I have no idea what you’re talking about. Can you explain more clearly?”

At that moment, the face of the old woman, which had been sleeping on the back of the old man’s head, suddenly opened her eyes.

“……!”

The Heavenly Demon flinched in surprise.

He had faced countless strong opponents before, but never had he encountered someone with two faces. What’s more, the old woman’s eyes were glowing blue.

“Interesting. This fellow…”

Staring intently at the Heavenly Demon, the old woman clicked her tongue.

“Manager Jang, this guy isn’t a demon. He’s a human from another world.”

“What?”

Jang Chaewon blinked in confusion as the old woman chuckled.

“He has a completely different energy from the humans here. Plus, fragments of space and time are still clinging to his face.”

“What?”

“What do you mean, from another world? Explain, old woman!”

The Heavenly Demon stepped forward, but the old man’s face clicked his tongue in disapproval.

“Such a hard life you’ve lived. Your life has been utterly desolate.”

Shaking his head, the old man pointed his index finger, a faint green glow at its tip.

“Rather than explaining it in a hundred words, this should suffice.”

“What’s this?”

Flash! The green light at the tip of the old man’s finger enveloped the Heavenly Demon’s face.

Suddenly, a large blue orb appeared before him, and fragmented knowledge flowed into his mind.

“Ugh.”

As the knowledge tore through his brain, a wave of dizziness hit him.

The Heavenly Demon’s eyes glowed red as he grasped his head with both hands.

“What kind of sorcery is this?”

“It’s not sorcery. It’s a mental bridge. It’s allowing me to transfer knowledge directly into your mind.”

The old man spoke quietly to the struggling Heavenly Demon.

“Don’t resist it. It’s nothing dangerous. It’s just giving you an understanding of this world.”

The Heavenly Demon, meeting the old man’s sincere gaze, nodded.

At that moment, the red glow in his eyes subsided, returning to normal.

He began to accept the knowledge pouring into his mind.
