Chapter 38: chapter 38
Eliana's POV:
I stared at Xavier's message, a mix of emotions swirling inside me. On one hand, I was thrilled for him - a new movie role with Elvis was a huge opportunity. But on the other hand, I couldn't help but feel a pang of sadness.
How long would he be away? Weeks? Months? The thought of being apart from him for an extended period was daunting. I had grown accustomed to having him by my side, and the prospect of being alone again was unsettling.
My mood began to shift, the initial happiness giving way to a sense of melancholy. I felt a lump form in my throat as I typed out a response, trying to sound supportive despite my reservations.
"Baby, that's amazing news! I'm so proud of you. But... how long will you be away?"
Xavier's POV:
I read Eliana's message, sensing a hint of uncertainty in her words. I quickly typed out a response, trying to reassure her.
"Hey, love, I'm not sure about the exact duration, but the director mentioned it could be around a month or two. Don't worry, we'll make this work. We can facetime and talk every day. I'll miss you too, but this is an opportunity I couldn't pass up. I love you."
Eliana's POV:
I stared at Xavier's message, my heart sinking at the thought of being apart for so long. A month or two felt like an eternity.
"How am I supposed to stay that long without seeing you?!" I typed out, trying to convey the depth of my emotions. "I'll miss you so much, Xavier. This is going to be really hard for me."
I took a deep breath, reminding myself of our initial agreement. "Wait, what about our marriage? Our contract marriage, remember? It's already been four months. How will this new movie project affect our arrangement?" I typed out, my curiosity and concern growing.
Xavier's POV:
I chuckled to myself as I read Eliana's message. I knew she was worried, but I didn't want her to stress about it.
"Aw, babe, relax! We'll figure it out, okay? Don't fret, I've got everything under control. I'll make time for us, and we'll make this work. Trust me," I typed out, trying to reassure her with my words.
Eliana's POV:
I felt a surge of frustration and hurt as I read Xavier's message. He thought he could just brush me off and reassure me with empty words?
"No, Xavier, you promised me! Now you want to run away with your movie project? What about our agreement? What about us?" I typed out, my emotions pouring onto the screen.
Xavier's POV:
I sighed, feeling a bit frustrated with Eliana's reaction. I knew she was worried, but I didn't think she needed to be so dramatic about it.
"Elly, can you stop being dramatic? We'll get through this, okay? I promise. Stop already, you're starting to scare me," I typed out, trying to inject a bit of humor into the conversation to lighten the mood.
Eliana's POV:
"Scare you?! You think I'm being dramatic?! You're the one who's about to leave me for TWO MONTHS! And you're telling me to stop being dramatic?!"
Xavier's POV:
I felt my frustration reach a boiling point as I read Eliana's messages. Couldn't she see that this was a huge opportunity for me? That I'd always dreamed of being part of this project?
I typed out a response, my fingers flying across the screen. "Elly, do you ever have to think about someone other than yourself?! Can't you understand that I've always wanted to be part of this project and now I'm in?! You're making it hard for me. Be considerate and stop being self-centered, please!"
I felt a surge of anger and frustration, and I knew I needed to take a step back before I said something I'd regret. I put my phone in my pocket and walked away, needing some space to calm down.
Eliana's POV:
I felt a stinging sensation in my eyes as I read Xavier's hurtful words. Inconsiderate and self-centered? Really? That's how he saw me?
I felt a wave of sadness wash over me, and I couldn't help but wonder if I was truly that selfish. Tears pricked at the corners of my eyes as I typed out a response, my heart heavy with emotion.
"Alright... you can go. I won't hold you back. Congratulations on your new project." I added a single broken heart emoji to the end of the message, and then I couldn't bear to look at my phone anymore.
Eliana's POV:
I tried to shake off the feeling of unease that settled in my stomach as I checked my phone. Nothing from Xavier. No reply, no read receipt, no call. It was as if he had just... disappeared.
I took a deep breath and pushed the thoughts aside, focusing on the tasks at hand. I had a meeting with a potential client in an hour, and I needed to prepare. I dove headfirst into my work, trying to distract myself from the ache in my chest.
But as the day wore on, I couldn't shake the feeling that something was off. Xavier was leaving tomorrow, and we hadn't even spoken since our argument. I tried to push the thoughts aside, but they lingered, refusing to be ignored.
I couldn't help but laugh as I walked into Royalty's office. She was spinning around in her chair, her face flushed with a bright blush. I raised an eyebrow, intrigued, and mouthed "who's on the phone?" to her.
Royalty's eyes sparkled with mischief as she mouthed back "Elvis" and gave me a sly grin. I chuckled and shook my head, happy to see my friend so carefree.
I sat down in the chair opposite her desk, listening in on her conversation with Elvis. Royalty was giggling and playfully teasing him, and I could tell she was thoroughly enjoying herself.
As I watched, I couldn't help but feel a pang of sadness. I wished I could be as carefree as Royalty, but my mind was still preoccupied with thoughts of Xavier and our argument.
When Royalty was done with her call with Elvis, I couldn't help but ask, "Did Elvis tell you he'll be traveling with Xavier tomorrow?"
Royalty's expression turned serious, and she nodded. "Yes, he did. I'm so sorry, Elly. I didn't know how to bring it up with you."
I felt a pang in my chest, and my eyes began to well up with tears. "And are you okay with that?" I asked, trying to keep my voice steady.
Royalty got up from her chair and walked around her desk to give me a hug. "Of course not, Elly. I'm worried about you. How are you feeling?"
I sighed, rubbing my temples. "I don't know, girl. I feel like I'm an enemy of progress. I was happy for him, but our contract marriage... it's complicated. I thought we had an understanding, but now it feels like he's just prioritizing his career over me."
Royalty held me tight, offering words of comfort.
Now let's go get something to eat royalty said.
I nodded, trying to shake off the emotional turmoil. "Yeah, that sounds good. I could use a distraction."
Royalty smiled and grabbed her purse. "Let's go get some dinner. I'm buying."
As we walked out of the office, I couldn't help but feel a sense of unease. Xavier was leaving tomorrow, and I had no idea what the future held for us. But with Royalty by my side, I felt a sense of comfort and support. Maybe, just maybe, I could get through this after all.
Xavier's POV:
I arrived at the meeting venue with Elvis, where we met the rest of the cast and crew for the movie. The meeting was productive, and we discussed the script, our roles, and the shooting schedule.
After the meeting, Elvis and I headed out, planning to grab a bite to eat at the hotel near the airport before our flight the next day.
As we walked out of the venue, the sound of high heels clicking on the pavement caught our attention. Tiana and Rubby, two actresses who were also part of the movie, walked towards us, their faces plastered with bright smiles.
Elvis's expression turned cold, and he glared at them. "What do you want?" he asked gruffly.
Tiana and Rubby exchanged a nervous glance before Tiana spoke up. "We were just looking for you both. We're also part of the movie, and we wanted to discuss some of the scenes with you."
I raised an eyebrow, skeptical of their motives. What did they really want to discuss?
Elvis narrowed his eyes, clearly not buying their story. "What scenes?" he asked, his tone firm.
Tiana hesitated, glancing at Rubby before responding. "We were thinking about the party scene. We wanted to make sure we're all on the same page."
I shrugged, trying to appear nonchalant. "I'm sure we'll go over everything during rehearsals."
Rubby smiled, her eyes glinting with something I couldn't quite read. "Great. We'll talk to you both later, then."
As they walked away, Elvis turned to me and raised an eyebrow. "What do you think they're really after?" he asked, his voice low.
I shook my head. "No idea. But I'm sure we'll find out soon enough."
Xavier's POV:
I was taken aback when Tiana and Rubby suddenly rushed back to us, clinging to our arms and holding us tight. I tried to pull my arm free, but Tiana held on tight, batting her eyelashes at me.
Elvis, too, looked confused and tried to shake off Rubby's grasp. But before we could react further, Elvis's eyes landed on Eliana and Royalty, who were walking towards us with looks of anger on their faces.
Elvis's expression changed instantly, and he quickly tried to extricate himself from Rubby's clutches. "What the...?" he muttered, his eyes fixed on Eliana.
I followed his gaze, and my heart sank. Eliana looked furious, her eyes blazing with anger. I knew I had to act fast to defuse the situation.
I was taken aback by Eliana's sudden rush towards me, but as soon as she reached my side, I felt a wave of relief wash over me. I wrapped my arms around her, holding her close.
"It's okay, I understand," I said, trying to reassure her. "But what are you doing here?"
Eliana looked up at me, her eyes still flashing with anger. "Royalty and I were out getting dinner, and we saw you... with them," she said, her voice trembling.
I followed her gaze to Tiana and Rubby, who were now standing a short distance away, looking embarrassed and angry. I knew I had to explain the situation to Eliana, and fast.
