Chapter 42: Itachi’s Answer, The Uchiha Clash
Amegakure – Akatsuki's Base
"What? Uchiha Itachi was killed?" Deidara exclaimed, disbelief evident in his eyes.
"Itachi-san… was this the end you foresaw for yourself?" Kisame murmured, his tone calm but his expression slightly conflicted.
"Shouldn't I have been the one to kill Itachi?!" Deidara shouted angrily. "My ultimate art hasn't even been unveiled yet! How could he die like this?"
The idea that Uchiha Sasuke, some brat, had the audacity to kill Itachi first enraged him.
"Dead is dead," Kakuzu remarked coldly, counting the money in his hands. "One less expense to deal with."
"Itachi is dead?" A low, eerie voice echoed. Its owner had purple eyes ringed with concentric circles—the Rinnegan.
It was Tendo Pain.
"Kisame, where was he last seen?" Pain asked.
"Not entirely sure. A few days ago, he said he wanted to return home for a bit," Kisame replied.
"I see. Let him be," Pain said in a quiet but commanding tone.
"Art is an explosion! Wahahaha!"
"You're so noisy, brat."
"..."
Itachi, traveling silently toward Konoha, suddenly paused to glance up at the sky, where the celestial projection loomed. His expression remained calm, serene, and unshaken.
He had foreseen his own death. It was no surprise to him.
"So, you've grown, Sasuke," Itachi said softly, a faint, bittersweet smile gracing his lips.
But the smile faded as he gazed at the question before him.
"What would I say to Sasuke in my final moments?"
He had thought about this many times before. In the end...
"Forgive me, Sasuke. This will be the last time…"
[Ding! Uchiha Itachi has answered correctly.]
The announcement reverberated across the shinobi world. Silence filled the air, followed by an uproar.
"Itachi… responded?! That's unbelievable!"
"But what did he say? Why won't the projection show us?"
"Ugh, is it trying to tease us? Don't we deserve to know?"
"Maybe it'll be revealed in the video? That'd be way more impactful!"
"Now that you mention it, that does make sense. I'm kinda looking forward to it now."
Sasuke stared intently at the projection. He didn't care what Itachi's final words were. All he wanted to know was how Itachi had died.
"Was it… me who killed him?" Sasuke muttered under his breath.
"I'll watch your death, Itachi," he said aloud, his Sharingan glowing with icy determination.
A twisted smile appeared on his face. He imagined Itachi groveling, begging for mercy. That thought brought him satisfaction.
"You'll regret letting me live, Itachi. I'll make sure you regret ever existing!"
The screen turned pitch black.
[Scarlet, three-tomoe Sharingan eyes slowly spun in the darkness…]
[Then, they morphed into the pattern of the Mangekyō Sharingan, spinning like a windmill, glowing ominously in the void.]
[A dim cave came into view, the sound of footsteps echoing through its hollow chambers.]
Finally, a figure stepped forward into the light.
[It was Uchiha Sasuke, emerging from the darkness.]
[Opposite him sat a man dressed in a black cloak adorned with red clouds, his Konoha headband slashed through with a line. From his unfastened cloak, his hand rested casually, his posture exuding calm arrogance.]
[It was Uchiha Itachi.]
["You're here, Sasuke," Itachi said softly.]
The shinobi world collectively froze, stunned by the overwhelming presence radiating from Itachi.
"Is that… the man who massacred the Uchiha Clan?!"
"What an intimidating posture! I've never seen someone so effortlessly arrogant!"
"Even through a screen, I feel like I'm being crushed by his aura!"
Sasuke's gaze locked onto the screen. As soon as Itachi's figure appeared, his eyes filled with unrelenting hatred.
The intent to kill burned brightly within him.
Meanwhile, the shinobi world marveled at Sasuke's appearance in the video.
"Wow, Sasuke-kun looks so cool!"
Many female viewers couldn't help but be captivated by the handsome young Uchiha. Even Sakura and Ino blushed, their expressions filled with admiration.
"This is too much! His looks are lethal!"
[The two brothers faced each other, their expressions calm yet brimming with unspoken tension.]
[After a moment, Itachi broke the silence, his voice steady. "How far can your Sharingan see now?"]
[Sasuke's eyes narrowed as he smirked. "How far can I see?"]
[His voice dripped with venom as he answered, "Right now, all I see… is your death, Itachi!"]
"Damn it, that was smooth! Being handsome and saying something like that? Totally unfair!"
"Why are the Uchiha always so dramatic? It's infuriating!"
"They've got both the looks and the skills. Can we even compete with that?"
[Itachi's expression didn't change. His voice remained calm. "My death, is it?"]
["In that case…"]
[In an instant, Itachi's figure vanished from his seat, reappearing beside Sasuke with a speed that seemed like teleportation.]
["Show me how, then."]
[Sasuke's smirk widened as he raised his bandaged arm, striking at Itachi with full force.]
[Clang!]
[Itachi countered effortlessly, a kunai sliding from his sleeve and stabbing toward Sasuke's Sharingan.]
[A fierce battle erupted, the brothers exchanging blows with unmatched precision. Sasuke quickly drew his Kusanagi Sword, parrying Itachi's kunai. The clash of steel echoed through the cave.]
[But after several exchanges, Itachi landed a solid kick, sending Sasuke flying backward.]
[Round One: Itachi's victory.]
"Okay, I admit it. The Uchiha really are on another level. I take back everything I said!"
"Damn, bloodline limits are so OP! Watching them fight makes me feel completely useless."
"This Sharingan is insane! But what about Konoha's strongest clan, the Hyūga with their Byakugan? Are they even more powerful?"
"Of course they are! Do you have any idea how hard it is to counter a Byakugan user? They see everything—no escape!"
"Plus, Byakugan has other perks, if you know what I mean. Heh heh…"
"Perks, huh? You guys are so shameless!"
Hinata's face flushed crimson as she overheard the shameless comments about the Byakugan.
"Byakugan isn't like that! I... I've never used it to spy on Naruto-kun... Not even once!"
Her voice trailed off, her fingers nervously fidgeting.
"Maybe... just a little… but only a little!"
