Chapter 41: Naruto and Sasuke, A New Question, Itachi’s Final Words

Night fell silently.

Above the Hidden Leaf Village, a silver moon rose, casting a mysterious glow over the darkened world.

It had been over half a day since the celestial projection disappeared. While the shinobi world had returned to its usual calm, many still gathered in hopes of seeing the next video.

In Naruto's Room:

Naruto sat on his bed in white pajamas, gazing out the window at the silver moon. His thoughts wandered far away.

Lying down and turning his back to the moonlight, his eyes lingered on a framed photo of Team 7 on his bedside table. He muttered quietly to himself.

"What are you doing right now...?"

"Are you thinking about revenge?"

"Or... do you really plan to abandon us and defect?"

"Was the bond we shared... really meaningless to you?"

"To you... what am I?"

"Sasuke…"

Naruto's brows furrowed tightly. His face showed pain and frustration. Why? Why would Sasuke leave? Why did he have to defect?

If it was revenge he wanted, Team 7 could have helped him. So why... why did he choose this path?

The more he thought about Sasuke, the less he understood him.

That night, sleep escaped him. His eyes remained unfocused, lost in a haze of worry and doubt.

In Sasuke's Room:

Sasuke also sat quietly on his bed, staring at the silver moon. Whatever he was thinking about, he kept it to himself.

"Brother... you promised to help me practice shuriken today."

"Sorry, Sasuke, something urgent came up. Next time, okay?"

"It's always the same... you're always like this, Brother."

Memories of the past surfaced in his mind, vivid and bittersweet. He recalled happy moments from his childhood—the warmth of his family, his father, mother, and brother.

"Father... Mother... Brother... why did you do it?"

"Because this was to test the limits of my capacity."

"You aren't worth killing... Foolish little brother. If you want to kill me, then hate me, detest me!"

"Live your life in an ugly manner. And one day, when you possess the same eyes as I do... come and find me!"

Sasuke's eyes widened, now glowing crimson in the dark. His Sharingan, marked with three tomoe, burned fiercely.

"Uchiha Itachi..."

"I won't follow your plan. I'll gain power my way, and I'll surpass you my way!"

"I swear... I will kill you!!"

Sasuke glanced at the photo of Team 7. His expression softened slightly as he recalled his fight with Gaara.

Back then, he had mastered Chidori, yet he was still no match for Gaara. But Naruto…

His gaze hardened again, filled with determination.

Seven Days Later:

[Ding! What were Uchiha Itachi's final words to Sasuke before his death?]

As soon as the projection lit up, countless eyes turned toward it. First came excitement, then shock.

"Uchiha Itachi?!"

"That Uchiha Itachi is dead?!"

"The guy who massacred his entire clan… dead? Who killed him?"

"No way! An S-rank rogue ninja, and now he's gone? Hah! Serves him right. A beast like that deserved to die!"

"Whoever killed him must be someone incredible. I wish I could've seen it happen."

"Who else could it be? Obviously, it was Uchiha Sasuke. They're brothers, and Sasuke's been after him for years."

"Yeah, it must've been Sasuke. Makes sense!"

"I'd pay anything to see the look on Itachi's face when he died."

Sasuke's head snapped up, his eyes locked on the projection. His expression was a mixture of shock and elation.

"I did it… I finally killed him!!"

His eyes burned with manic joy. All his hard work, all his suffering, had paid off.

At last, he had executed that wretched man.

He wanted to laugh. Nothing else mattered in this moment. Nothing at all.

Ōnoki: "If I'm not mistaken, Uchiha Itachi was the one who wiped out the Uchiha Clan back then, wasn't he? Tsk tsk."

Fourth Raikage: "Someone who could slaughter an entire clan wasn't going to live long. His death was bound to happen—karma, plain and simple."

Mei Terumī: "A dangerous man, though undeniably good-looking. But his aura was always too heavy, steeped in guilt and blood."

Hiruzen Sarutobi: "Itachi…"

"Something doesn't add up. Itachi was a genius. Could Sasuke really defeat him?"

"Wait, what do you mean? Explain!"

"Future Sasuke must've become really powerful. I'm sure he could take down Itachi by then."

"Don't underestimate Itachi. He graduated from the Academy at six, awakened the Sharingan at eight, and joined the Anbu at eleven. He was a once-in-a-generation prodigy. Could Sasuke really surpass him?"

"No way... That's insane! How do you even know all this? I've lived in Konoha my whole life, and I didn't know that!"

"I'm from the Cloud Village's Intelligence Division…"

"Wait, what? The Cloud Village? Aren't you all just brutes? How do you even have an Intelligence Division?"

"..."

The Hidden Leaf Genin, the Twelve Ninja Guardians, all drew sharp breaths.

"Six years old and already a genin? Eight when he awakened the Sharingan? Eleven when he joined the Anbu? What kind of monster was he?"

Even self-proclaimed geniuses like Hyūga Neji and Uchiha Sasuke seemed to pale in comparison to such feats.

Sasuke's elation began to waver. Itachi's extraordinary talent cast a shadow of doubt in his mind.

Could he really have defeated Itachi?

But then he shook off the thought. No one else could've killed Itachi. He wouldn't allow it.

Itachi's death could only come by his hand!

"So that's the person Sasuke wanted revenge on?" Naruto murmured, looking at the projection. Over the past few days, he had started to recover from the earlier events.

His gaze was filled with complex emotions. It was because of this man that Sasuke had changed so much.

"Wait a second. We're all talking about whether or not Itachi's dead, but isn't the question more important?"

"Crap, I almost forgot! What were his final words to Sasuke? Some kind of last request?"

"No way. A guy like Itachi wouldn't beg for his life. He was too ruthless for that."

The Shinobi World erupted with discussion. Theories and speculation spread like wildfire across every village.
