Chapter 13: Jaune vs Yang
Jaune's two-week suspension wasn't a punishment—it was an opportunity. Bruce made sure of that. Every single day, Jaune pushed his body to the absolute limit, not through overwhelming brute force but through precise, controlled movement. The weights he wore—100kg per wrist and calf, 500kg on his vest—did not come off, not even when he slept. At first, it was unbearable. Every attempt at simple tasks—holding a cup, walking, sitting down—felt like an exercise in frustration. He shattered glasses, stumbled with every step, and felt his Aura flicker under the sheer pressure.
Bruce's strict guidance forced him to rethink everything. He wasn't training for raw power; he was training for control. His movements had to be slow, deliberate, and perfectly measured. He needed to constantly channel his Aura, not in bursts, but in a steady, flowing stream to manage the incredible weight.
By the end of the first week, Jaune started adapting. His strength was growing exponentially, but more importantly, so was his ability to regulate it. He could finally hold a glass without breaking it, lift his arms without trembling, and even walk without his steps shaking the floor.
By the end of the second week, the results were astonishing. His once scrawny frame had transformed. His muscles were defined, his posture more stable, and his presence more commanding. When Pyrrha, Ren, and Nora saw him after his training, they were stunned. Pyrrha's eyes widened, and Weiss—who had been passing by—caught a glimpse of his abs and momentarily forgot how to speak.
Nora, of course, had the most exaggerated reaction. "Holy moly, fearless leader! Did you eat a protein factory?!"
Ruby, Blake, and even some of Team CFVY were impressed. Jaune, the once weak and clumsy fighter, had turned into a powerhouse. Yet, despite the power, he had learned restraint—a lesson he knew he needed after what happened with Cardin. But despite all his growth, one thing remained the same—his nervousness.
Yang's Downward Spiral
While Jaune was getting stronger, Yang was getting worse. She skipped classes frequently, spending more time partying than training. Her carefree attitude, once seen as confidence, was beginning to look more like recklessness.
Professors started noticing. Glynda Goodwitch, never one to let such behavior slide, gave several warnings. Even Ozpin, usually patient and understanding, expressed concern. But Yang brushed it off. She wasn't a bad student—she was just having fun.
However, her friends saw the problem growing. Blake, more than anyone, was aware of how Yang's behavior was shifting. She had seen this kind of recklessness before.
Ruby Confronts Yang
One night, Ruby had enough.
"Yang, we need to talk."
Yang groaned, lying on her bed, clearly uninterested. "Can this wait until I'm not tired?"
"No." Ruby's voice was firm, her silver eyes filled with frustration. "You've been skipping classes, ignoring training, and blowing off everyone who cares about you. What are you doing?"
Yang sat up, irritation flashing across her face. "Ruby, I'm fine. I just want to have fun, alright?"
"No, it's not alright!" Ruby's voice cracked slightly. "You're throwing everything away! You're better than this! Mom always said that being a Huntress isn't just about strength—it's about responsibility!"
Yang froze for a second. The mention of their mother hit deeper than she expected.
"I just…" Yang looked away. "I don't want to think about all that serious stuff right now."
Ruby clenched her fists. "Well, maybe it's time you did."
Yang didn't respond and left the room. For the first time, Ruby felt like she couldn't reach her sister.
Jaune's Return from Suspension & Cardin's Departure
When Jaune returned to class, the reaction was immediate. People stared. He wasn't just back—he was different. Stronger, more confident, and undeniably impressive.
Pyrrha was especially pleased, feeling proud of how far he had come. Weiss, who had often looked down on him, found herself struggling to find words. "It's… an improvement," she muttered, trying to act indifferent.
However, Jaune noticed something strange—Cardin and his team were gone.
Ren leaned over. "They transferred to Shade Academy in Vacuo."
Jaune blinked. "Wait, what?"
Pyrrha nodded. "I overheard the teachers talking. After… what happened, their team decided to leave Beacon."
Jaune frowned. He had expected Cardin to hold a grudge, but instead, he had fled. For the first time, Jaune wondered if he had changed something in Cardin too.
Bruce Challenges Yang
Bruce had seen enough. When he caught Yang skipping again, he finally intervened.
"You don't want to train?" Bruce asked, arms crossed.
Yang shrugged. "Not in the mood."
Bruce's expression didn't change. "Fine. Then fight Jaune."
Yang raised an eyebrow. "Huh?"
"If you win, you can do whatever you want. Party, skip class, I won't stop you. But if you lose, you focus. You train, you study, and you cut ties with the distractions holding you back."
Yang smirked. "Jaune? No offense to the guy, but he's still Jaune."
Bruce simply responded, "We'll see."
Jaune vs. Yang – The Fight
When Jaune heard the idea of fighting Yang, he immediately declined. He still had nervousness in him, and Yang was a powerhouse. However, Bruce insisted.
"You can beat her. She's lost her edge."
Ruby, Blake, and Weiss were stunned. "Jaune? Beat Yang? He just train himself for two weeks?"
Bruce smirked. "Jaune isn't naturally talented, but his Aura output is insanely high. He can keep up."
On the fight day, Jaune was nervous, but he forced himself to focus. Pyrrha, Ren, Nora, Ruby and Blake cheered for him.
The fight was brutal. Every punch and counter was intense, their strengths clashing in an even battle. Yang use offensive attack while Jaune is defensive.
Jaune didn't overpower Yang—he outlasted her. His movements were precise, calculated, and relentless. Unlike before, where he would flail wildly, he now moved with purpose.
Yang, despite her strength, started to slip. Her months of laziness had made her sloppy.
Jaune took the advantage and won. It wasn't luck—it was pure discipline.
Ruby, Blake, Weiss, Pyrrha, Ren and Nora is shocked that Jaune has won in hand to hand combat.
Yang's Realization & Rivalry with Jaune
Bruce walked up to Yang after the match. "You've gotten weaker."
Yang gritted her teeth. "Shut up."
"I'm serious," Bruce continued. "You think you're still the fighter you were months ago, but you're not. You've been lazy, and it shows."
Yang clenched her fists but didn't argue. Because deep down, she knew he was right.
She turned to Jaune and smirked. "Alright, Arc. You win. But next time? I'm not holding back."
Jaune nervously chuckled but he take a deep breath and say. "Neither am I."
From that day on, Yang saw Jaune as a true rival.
