Chapter 14: Plan to Reforge
Weekends at Beacon Academy were usually a time to unwind, but Jaune Arc had no such luxury. The past two weeks had been brutal under Bruce's training, and now, he was testing his newfound strength and control in a sparring match against Pyrrha Nikos. The training yard echoed with the clash of metal, as their swords met in rapid succession. Jaune struggled to keep up with Pyrrha's precision and speed, his muscles aching with every block and counterattack.
Their audience—Team RWBY and the rest of Team JNPR—watched closely. Jaune gritted his teeth, forcing himself to match Pyrrha's movements. He was undeniably stronger than before, but his reflexes still lagged. He wasn't just fighting an opponent—he was fighting against his own limitations.
"Move faster, Jaune!" Weiss called out, arms crossed as she analyzed the match.
Ruby nodded. "Yeah! You've definitely gotten stronger, but you're still a step behind."
Jaune inhaled sharply and swung his sword in a powerful downward arc. Pyrrha easily dodged and countered with a shield bash, sending him stumbling backward. He barely regained his footing before she was upon him again, forcing him onto the defensive.
Bruce, who had arrived moments ago, watched with a thoughtful expression. "I see what's wrong," he muttered before speaking louder. "Jaune, your strength has improved, but your speed hasn't caught up. That's because you're trying to fight in a way that doesn't suit you."
Jaune lowered his sword slightly, panting. "What do you mean?"
Bruce folded his arms. "Have any of you heard of an Ultra Great Sword?"
The students exchanged glances. Yatsuhashi's massive greatsword was the first thing that came to mind.
"You mean like Yatsuhashi's weapon?" Blake asked, intrigued.
Bruce shook his head. "Similar, but much bigger. An Ultra Great Sword is all about overwhelming power. Standard swords rely on speed and precision, but Ultra Great Swords? They crush through defenses and leave no room for counterattacks. Given Jaune's fighting style, this kind of weapon makes far more sense for him."
Silence fell over the group as they absorbed his words. Jaune, known for his reliance on a traditional sword and shield, wielding a massive blade? It was difficult to picture.
"Hold on," Yang interjected. "You're saying Jaune should completely change his weapon? That's a big switch."
Bruce glanced at Jaune's current sword and shield. "Only if he wants to. Right now, he's struggling because he's forcing himself to fight like Pyrrha. He doesn't have her agility, but what he *does* have is raw power. He should be using a weapon that complements his strengths, not one that holds him back."
Jaune looked down at Crocea Mors. His family had passed this weapon down for generations. The idea of changing it felt… unnatural.
"I don't know," he admitted. "This sword and shield mean a lot to me."
Jaune hesitated, then recalled him and Ruby conversation when they met each other for the first time. Ruby had been excited about weapons, calling them an extension of their wielder.
"'A weapon is part of you, especially if you build it yourself,'" he repeated.
Ruby's eyes widened, then she grinned. "Exactly! If your weapon isn't working for you, then change it!"
Bruce nodded. "Which is why I'm assigning Ruby and Yang to help you reforge your weapon—if you're willing."
Jaune's eyes widened. "Wait, what?"
"Ruby knows weapons inside and out same as Yang, They had experience with forges from their time at Signal," Bruce explained. "If anyone can help you design something new, it's them."
"But my sword and shield don't have enough material for a weapon that big," Jaune pointed out.
Bruce's smirk widened. "That's where their next mission comes in." He looked at Team RWBY and continue to Jaune, "You need new materials, and I know just the place to get them."
Weiss raised an eyebrow. "You're giving us a mission?"
Bruce shrugged. "Technically, I'm still a professor here. I just need Ozpin's approval."
The mention of Ozpin grabbed everyone's attention.
"This mission is for Team RWBY," Bruce continued. "There's an abandoned mine outside of Vale that used to produce high-quality weapon materials. Some rare metals might still be there. You'll be retrieving them."
Pyrrha frowned. "What about Team JNPR?"
"You'll be working in the forge, preparing everything for when they return."
Excitement rippled through the group. This was Team RWBY's first real mission outside of standard assignments. Ruby's eyes gleamed with anticipation, while Yang cracked her knuckles, eager for action. Blake, ever the strategist, was already thinking of possible threats, and Weiss, though feigning indifference, was clearly intrigued.
Jaune took a deep breath, looking at Crocea Mors one last time. If he wanted to grow stronger, he had to embrace change. The decision wasn't easy, but deep down, he knew Bruce was right.
He clenched his fist. "Alright. Let's do it."
And just like that, Jaune Arc's journey had entered a new chapter—not just one of improvement, but of transformation.

As Team RWBY prepared for their mission, they gathered in their dorm, checking their equipment. Blake adjusted the straps on Gambol Shroud, while Weiss meticulously inspected her Dust cartridges. Yang leaned against the wall, watching Ruby polish Crescent Rose with practiced care.
"Excited, Rubes?" Yang teased.
Ruby's grin widened. "Are you kidding? Our first real mission! This is gonna be awesome!"
Blake, always the cautious one, frowned. "Don't get too excited. If the mine has been abandoned for this long, there could be Grimm nesting there."
Weiss sighed. "Why is it always Grimm?"
Meanwhile, in the forge, Jaune, Pyrrha, Ren, and Nora stood before an anvil, discussing the reforging process. Jaune ran his fingers along his sword's worn blade, determination settling in his chest. This wasn't just an upgrade—it was a reinvention of himself.
Nora beamed. "Oh man, Jaune's getting a *huge* sword! This is gonna be *epic!*"
Pyrrha smiled at Jaune's resolve. "Are you ready for this?"
Jaune inhaled deeply, then nodded. "Yeah. Let's do it."
With renewed determination, he stepped forward, ready to forge the weapon that would redefine his path as a Huntsman.
