Chapter 67: Meet my friend
As Oscar was still processing the absurdity of Adrian's future potential, he decided to check the details of his own newly acquired skill.
Ding!
[Skill Acquired: Divine Archery (Weakened) – Grants enhanced precision with ranged weapons. Significantly improves aim and reaction speed, though not to the level of the original Divine Archery. Can be trained to evolve further.]
Oscar rubbed his temples. "Great… another skill to train. As if I didn't have enough already."
Qrow looked at him suspiciously. "Seriously, kid, you keep zoning out like you're having a conversation in your head. You sure you're okay?"
Oscar forced a chuckle. "Yeah, yeah. Just… thinking about how crazy things get when I hang around you guys."
Jaune sighed. "Tell me about it."
Saphron playfully nudged Jaune. "Speaking of crazy, wanna help with lunch?"
Jaune groaned but relented, heading to the kitchen with Saphron.
Qrow leaned against the wall, watching Oscar. "So… what's really up?"
Oscar hesitated. Qrow already knew about the System, so he figured there was no harm in telling him. "I just got a new skill… from Adrian."
Qrow blinked. "From a baby?"
Oscar nodded. "Yeah. And not just any skill—apparently, that kid has the potential to become one of the best archers in existence. He has a skill that makes him an unstoppable marksman. And just by being near him, I got a weaker version of it."
Qrow let out a low whistle. "Well, ain't that something… Kid's got a hell of a future ahead of him. And you? Looks like your System's got more surprises in store."
Oscar exhaled. "Yeah… but that also means I have even more stuff to train."
Qrow smirked. "Then I guess we better start putting that new skill to the test. Lucky for you, I know my way around a bow."
Oscar groaned. "You're really gonna make me train during vacation, aren't you?"
Qrow chuckled. "What else is vacation for?"
Oscar sighed. This was going to be a long break.
After eating dinner, Oscar was given a guests room, to rest, as he checks over all of his stats too notice something
[Skill: Swords Mastery - Level 19 (Increase damage and efficiency with swords)]
Oscar blinked as he spoke in his mind. "Why isn't this Max yeat, I use my sword like Crazy"
[To reach Level 20 on this Skill, the host much have a sword technique all by him self worth zero help, this Technique must be unique to the host it self, it doesn't matter if you are using the Crimson Fang or Infernal Claymore to make this Technique]
Oscar sighed as he stared at the notification. "Of course, it can't be that easy…"
He had been swinging his sword non-stop, fighting opponents way above his level, yet somehow, this was what was holding him back? A completely unique technique?
Oscar rubbed his chin. "So, I need to create my own sword technique… something that isn't borrowed from anyone else."
He sat down on the bed, deep in thought. Most of his fighting style relied on refining what others had already mastered. Ruby's speed, Jaune's endurance, Qrow's unpredictability—he took inspiration from all of them. But now, he needed something his own.
His mind drifted to his various abilities. He had Weapon Fusion, Shadow Arms, and now Divine Archery (Weakened). If he could incorporate them into his swordsmanship, maybe that would be enough to push it to Level 20.
He summoned his Crimson Fang and Infernal Claymore, twirling them experimentally in his hands.
"Alright… let's start brainstorming."
Concept 1: Phantom Slash
Using Shadow Arms, create shadow duplicates of his sword mid-swing to fake out enemies.
Downsides: Might be predictable after repeated use.
Concept 2: Infernal Rain
Channel Divine Archery into his sword, slashing while launching ranged energy slashes.
Downsides: Could drain Aura too fast.
Concept 3: Fusion Breaker
Use Weapon Fusion mid-battle to temporarily combine weapons into unpredictable forms.
Downsides: Weapon Fusion was unstable and unreliable.
Oscar groaned, flopping back onto the bed. "This is going to be harder than I thought…"
As he stared at the ceiling, an idea sparked in his mind.
What if he combined all three?
A sword technique that was unpredictable, used ranged slashes, and allowed him to switch forms mid-battle?
He sat up, excitement rising in his chest.
"Alright… let's get to work."
The next day, Oscar will as with Qrow.
Qrow looked at Oscar as he spoken. "The weapons maker is here".
Oscar looked at Qrow as he spoke. "So this guy that will help me with my artificer class".
Qrow snickered when he said 'He'. "Yeah definitely"
He opened the door to the workshop, the workshop had they of many types of hunter type weapons, sword, spears, hammer, all them also had different types do guns with them, it was clear made by one person, and not for hunters to take, as Hunter's made there own weapon's, as he can hear the hammering sound.
Qrow then spoke. "Hey Hephaestus you there".
As then voice came which didn't sound like it belonged to a man. "Qrow Is that you".
Qrow chuckled as he spoke. "Yup that is me, why don't you come here and show you self".
As then walking out of where the weapons Smith was a crimson eye and red hair reaching to the neck. She has a rather sharp face and slender body with an eyepatch over her right eye.
[Insert Image of Hephaestus from Danmachi here]
Oscar just blinked as he looked at Qrow, as then he Remembers, everything Qrow talker about and said Him, he always snickers even when he called he a Him, Qrow had just trolled him
Oscar sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. "Of course, you did."
Qrow grinned, clearly enjoying himself. "Hey, you should've seen your face, kid. Classic."
Meanwhile, Hephaestus crossed her arms, her crimson eye studying Oscar with a neutral expression. "So, you're the one Qrow told me about. The kid with the weird system thing and an interest in forging."
Oscar straightened up. "Yeah. I've been working on my artificer skills, but I still have a lot to learn."
Hephaestus nodded, then gestured around her workshop. "I don't usually take apprentices, but Qrow's got a way of twisting arms. Let's see if you're worth my time."
She tossed him a lump of metal and pointed at the forge. "Make something. Anything. Show me what you got."
Oscar caught the metal, feeling its weight in his hands. His system had helped him enchant and fuse weapons, but actual smithing? That was new territory.
He rolled up his sleeves and approached the forge, gripping a hammer. Alright, let's do this.
Oscar took a deep breath as he focused on the metal in his hands. He wasn't a blacksmith, but his system had given him enough knowledge to understand the basics.
He placed the metal in the forge, watching as it slowly turned a bright orange. The heat was intense, but he ignored it, gripping the hammer tightly. As he pulled the glowing metal out and placed it on the anvil, he activated one of his skills.
Ding!
[Basic Enchanting (Lv. 3) activated – Material is now more receptive to modifications.]
Hephaestus raised an eyebrow as she watched. "Huh. That's an interesting trick."
Oscar exhaled and began hammering. His movements were clumsy at first, but as he continued, the system assisted him, subtly correcting his strikes. Sparks flew with each impact, and the shape of a blade slowly began to form.
Ding!
[Smithing Proficiency increased! +1 Dexterity.]
Qrow smirked. "Not bad, kid. Keep at it."
Oscar gritted his teeth, sweat forming on his brow. The metal resisted, but he refused to give up. Hours passed as he worked, folding and shaping the blade. Eventually, he had something that resembled a dagger—not perfect, but functional.
Hephaestus took it from him, inspecting the craftsmanship. She ran a finger along the edge and nodded. "Not bad for a beginner. It's crude, but I can see the potential." She tossed it back to him. "You've got talent, kid. But talent isn't enough. You wanna learn? Be here at sunrise tomorrow."
Oscar caught the dagger, a small smile forming on his face. "Got it."
Qrow patted his shoulder. "Looks like you've got yourself a real teacher now."
Oscar looked at the blade in his hand and then at Hephaestus. This was just the beginning.
Ding!
[New Skill: Craftsmanship Level 1 (This allows the host to become a better craftsman]
Ding!
[Hidden Quest completed, Favour of the Forge, new skill: Technician has been given, New Skill: Heart of the forge]
Oscar's eyes widened as he saw the notifications pop up in his vision.
Ding!
[New Skill: Technician (Lv. 1) – Enhances the host's ability to repair, modify, and improve mechanical and magical equipment.]
[New Skill: Heart of the Forge (Lv. 1) – The host becomes more attuned to metal and fire, increasing efficiency in blacksmithing and reducing fatigue when working with heated materials.]
Hephaestus smirked, crossing her arms. "Huh. Looks like the forge already recognizes you."
Oscar looked up at her. "Wait… what?"
She chuckled. "That skill—Heart of the Forge—it's something that only real blacksmiths develop over time. Either you're a natural, or you've got something special going on."
Qrow smirked, taking a sip from his flask. "Oh, he's got something all right."
Oscar shook his head. "Well, at least this means I'll get better at this faster."
Hephaestus walked over to her workbench and grabbed a chunk of raw metal. "Let's put that to the test. If you're serious about learning, then you're going to make your own weapon from scratch."
Oscar blinked. "Wait, what?"
She slammed the metal down in front of him. "You heard me. No shortcuts. No copying someone else's designs. You forge something unique. If you want to be a real craftsman, you need to create something that's yours."
Oscar looked at the metal, then back at Hephaestus. He could already hear the System waiting to notify him of new quests, but for now, he pushed that aside.
He placed a hand on the cool metal, feeling its rough surface.
"Alright," he said, determination in his voice. "Let's do this."
Oscar then blinke as he noticed something. "Wait you can see my system".
Hephaestus srugged as she pointed at the eye patch. "Kinda, it is because of my semblance".
Oscar's eyes widened. "Wait, your Semblance lets you see my System?"
Hephaestus smirked, tapping her eyepatch. "Not exactly. My Semblance, Divine Smith's Eye, lets me see the essence of craftsmanship in any object or person. I can tell what makes something unique, how well it's made, and even its potential."
Oscar processed that for a moment before asking, "So… what do you see when you look at me?"
Hephaestus' smirk faded slightly, replaced by curiosity. "That's the thing. When I look at you, it's like staring at an unfinished blueprint. You've got potential—a ridiculous amount of it—but it's all jumbled together, like a thousand different projects waiting to be built."
Qrow chuckled. "Yeah, that sounds about right."
Oscar sighed. "Great, so I'm basically a walking work-in-progress."
Hephaestus shrugged. "Aren't we all?" She gestured to the forge. "Now, stop overthinking and start hammering. You've got a weapon to make."
Oscar exhaled and stepped forward, rolling up his sleeves. The heat of the forge washed over him as he grabbed a pair of tongs and lifted the metal.
The moment he did, a ding echoed in his mind.
Ding!
[New Quest: The Birth of a Craftsman – Create your first unique weapon. Rewards: ???]
Oscar grinned. "Alright, let's do this."
The next few days passed in Argus went by, as Oscar was training both with Qrow and Oscar and during his training with Qrow he was trying something with his sword, he has plan and an idea on what he wanted his sword Technique to be, as back with Hephaestus he was hammering down as he looked at thinh he was enhancing
Ding!
[Basic Enchanting has leveled Up - Level 20 (MAX)]
Ding!
[Basic Enchanting Upgrade → Advanced Enchanting Level 1]
Oscar then puts a metal and steal in his system, as he then fuses thms successfully
Ding!
[Weapon Fusion leveled up Level 20 (MAX)]
Ding!
[Skill Technician leveled up Level 10]
Ding!
[Skill Heart Of the Forge Leveled up level 5]
Oscar just stopped as he looked at the still incomplete quest.
[Quest: The Birth of a Craftsman – Create your first unique weapon. Rewards: ???]
Oscar wiped the sweat from his brow as he stared at the half-forged weapon in front of him. Despite all the progress he had made—maxing out Basic Enchanting, advancing Weapon Fusion, and leveling up Technician and Heart of the Forge—the quest still wasn't complete.
Hephaestus, watching from the side, smirked. "You're hesitating."
Oscar frowned. "What do you mean?"
She walked over and tapped the glowing metal with a hammer. "You're following blueprints, sticking to what you know. But this isn't just about making a good weapon—it has to be yours. Unique."
Oscar stared at the metal, deep in thought. She was right. So far, he had been relying on existing knowledge, fusing techniques he had learned from others. But if he wanted to complete this quest, he had to go beyond that.
He closed his eyes, recalling all his fights so far, his strengths and weaknesses, the way he moved in battle. Then, inspiration struck.
His sword wouldn't just be a simple blade—it would be adaptive. A weapon that could change forms depending on the situation. He envisioned a weapon that could shift between a longsword, a greatsword, and even a twin-blade mode, allowing him flexibility in combat.
With newfound determination, he grabbed his hammer and got to work.
Hours passed, the sound of metal clashing filling the workshop. Sparks flew as he reforged, reshaped, and re-enchanted the weapon over and over again. Sweat dripped down his forehead, but he didn't stop.
Then, finally—
Ding!
[Quest Completed: The Birth of a Craftsman – Create your first unique weapon.]
[Rewards: ???]
The moment the notification appeared, Oscar felt a surge of power flow through him. His hands instinctively gripped the hilt of the newly forged weapon, and he knew—this was it. His first true masterpiece.
Hephaestus looked at him as she spoke. "So what you make".
Oscar then shows a futuristic looking shovel, as it has many buttons and even had blue lines going through it. "This".
Hephaestus stared at the weapon, then at Oscar, then back at the weapon. "...You made a shovel?"
Oscar grinned. "Not just any shovel. Watch this."
He pressed one of the buttons on the handle, and with a metallic click, the blade of the shovel split into two, forming a sharp double-edged sword. Another press, and the blade extended, transforming into a glaive. One more button, and the weapon retracted back into its shovel form.
Qrow, who had just walked into the workshop, choked on his drink. "Kid, tell me you didn't just forge a tactical combat shovel."
Oscar smirked. "I did."
Hephaestus crossed her arms, studying the weapon. "Well... it's definitely unique. But why a shovel?"
Oscar shrugged. "Because no one expects a shovel to be a deadly weapon. Plus, I can use it for digging, blocking, slashing, and even throwing if needed. A weapon should be versatile, right?"
Hephaestus chuckled. "I can't argue with that logic."
Ding!
[New Skill Unlocked: Weapon Adaptability – Your ability to modify and adjust weapons mid-combat has increased. Weapon transformations are smoother, and you can instinctively shift between modes without hesitation.]
Oscar grinned. "Looks like my system agrees."
Qrow sighed, rubbing his temples. "I don't know whether to be impressed or concerned. But hey, as long as it works."
Oscar spun the shovel in his hands, feeling its weight. It was his weapon, forged by his own hands. And now, he was ready to take his training to the next level.
Hephaestus looked at him as he spoke. "So what are going to do with that".
Oscar looked at and gave to her. "I already have Crimson Fang, aan the Infernal Claymore, I don't need another weapon that is not a Bow right now, so I guess you can find a good new up in coming hunter this, don't worry it has gun mode, particularly a sniper".
Hephaestus raised an eyebrow as she examined the weapon. "A shovel, sword, glaive, and a sniper rifle? Kid, you really went all out on this one."
Oscar grinned. "Well, I figured if I was going to make something unique, it should be really unique. But yeah, I don't need it right now, so if you know a promising hunter who could use it, it's all yours."
Hephaestus ran her fingers along the intricate engravings, noting the smooth transitions between weapon forms. "Hmph, well, I won't just give it away. I'll make sure whoever gets this actually deserves it."
Ding!
[Quest Completed: The Birth of a Craftsman – You have created your first unique weapon.]
[Rewards: ???]
Oscar's system notification flashed in front of him, but before he could check the rewards—
Ding!
[New Passive Skill Unlocked: The Smith's Pride – Weapons you craft will naturally improve over time, adapting to their wielder and growing stronger with use.]
Oscar's eyes widened slightly. That was... actually a pretty powerful skill. It meant that any weapon he forged wouldn't just be static—they could evolve based on the user's fighting style.
Qrow chuckled, patting Oscar on the shoulder. "Well, kid, looks like you just took your first step to becoming a proper Artificer."
Oscar smirked. "Feels like it."
Hephaestus nodded approvingly. "You're not bad, Oscar. Keep refining your craft, and maybe one day, you'll be worthy of really complex enchantments. For now, though—keep training."
Oscar grinned, already eager to test out his new skills.
