Re:Zero All Sins

Chapter 3: Slums

Subaru was walking with Emilia they were making there way too the slum, as Subaru looked in the sky seeing that it was evening, as he then took a deep breath and almost hold his head

Ding!

Subaru took a deep breath, as then he saw his system, as the Chibi version of Pandora was there smiling at him. Subaru glanced at the chibi version of Pandora in his system interface, her bright smile almost unsettling.

[Pandora looked at him as she spoke. "Wanna mentally discuss about this world? Don't worry, only you can see us."]

Subaru sighed, keeping his expression neutral as he mentally responded. "Fine. Give me a brief summary while I walk."

[Ding! New function unlocked: Encyclopedia Mode – Access world information directly!]

[Pandora giggled. "So, as you already know, this country is called Lugunica. It's one of the four major nations on this continent and operates under a monarchy. But here's the catch—the current royal family is dead."]

Subaru frowned slightly, pretending to be focused on the road. "Yeah, because of the dragon's contract, right? The royal family had a special connection with the dragon Volcanica, and now that they're gone, the throne is up for grabs."

[Minerva cut in, her chibi form crossing her arms. "Exactly! That's why that Royal Insignia is so important. Only candidates chosen by the Dragon's Covenant can participate in the royal selection."]

Subaru hummed in thought as he walked alongside Emilia. He already knew all this from what had been downloaded into his brain, but hearing the Witches explain it helped reinforce the details.

Meanwhile, Emilia, unaware of his internal conversation, continued walking, occasionally glancing at him.

"You're acting strange," she finally said, raising an eyebrow. "Are you sure you're not hiding anything?"

Subaru grinned. "What? Me? Hiding something? Nah, I just process things differently. I mean, I did just get thrown into this mess out of nowhere."

Emilia sighed but didn't press further. Soon, they arrived at the entrance of the slums. The air was thick with the scent of filth, and the streets were lined with rundown buildings.

Subaru's eyes sharpened as he activated [Invisible Providence] just slightly, allowing his enhanced senses to scan the area. He didn't want to be caught off guard.

Subaru exhaled. "Here we go…"

As Subaru and Emilia entered the slums, the stench of unclean streets hit them. Emilia frowned slightly but remained composed. Subaru, on the other hand, was already scanning the surroundings with [Invisible Providence], ensuring no surprises.

Ahead, they saw a run-down shack with a slightly open door, dim candlelight flickering inside. Subaru knew this was where Felt had taken the stolen insignia.

Emilia stepped forward but hesitated slightly. "This should be the place…"

Subaru smirked. "Yeah, let's hope they don't overcharge us for lost property."

Inside, a large, muscular old man with a grizzled beard sat behind a wooden table, drinking from a bottle. Felt, the golden-haired thief, was seated on a crate, smirking as she spun the insignia in her fingers.

"Well, well," Felt said, leaning back. "Took ya long enough to track me down, huh?"

Emilia frowned. "That insignia belongs to me. Please return it."

Felt scoffed. "Yeah, not how it works, lady. This thing's worth a fortune, and my client's already waiting."

Subaru, keeping his usual grin, stepped forward. "Let's not make this difficult. We just want the insignia back. How about we talk this out?"

The old man, Rom, raised an eyebrow. "Heh, got money?"

Subaru glanced at Emilia, who looked uncertain. Before she could answer, a cold, amused voice echoed from behind them.

"Oh? And here I was, hoping I'd get what I paid for without interruptions."

A woman she is unusually tall for a woman, as she stood around the same height as Natsuki Subaru at the time of his summoning. Her purple eyes angled down towards their edges and presented Elsa with a certain level of calmness and gentleness. Below her left eye Elsa had a beauty spot. Her long wavy hair was the same shade of black as Subaru's (a trait that was very rare in her world) and was braided into a long tail on the left side of her head that reached down to her hips. A single purple flower decorated the left side of Elsa's head. Elsa was a woman of incredible beauty who apparently oozed eroticism with every move she made. Her white skin was unusually pale to the point that it could almost be described as sickening, and Elsa's slim body was well-endowed with large breasts and sultry curves. Her bewitching beauty coupled with her well-endowed body was enough to catch the eye of most people she met.

Elsa's clothing, as if to match the woman herself, was extremely provocative. Her outfit consisted of a pair of black elbow-length gloves with purple trimmings at the top, a pair of black high-heel shoes, and a black dress with purple decorations that was both strapless and backless and featured brown tights. The dress, that clung to Elsa's body fairly tightly, also had thigh-high slits on either side and an exposed front that flaunted her bellybutton and cleavage.

Subaru tensed. Elsa Granhiert… the Bowel Hunter.

[New Quest: Survive the Bowel Hunter's Attack

Subaru exhaled. Great… Here we go again.

Elsa looked at Subaru with a smirk as she spoke. "Well, well, well, you know about huh".

Felt then spoke looking at her. "Wow wow hold on, you we have what you want".

Elsa gave them a smirk as she spoken. "Now I would do that, but you brought more people here, plus did you think I would keep my deal".

Subaru looked at her as she rushed at Emilia, as did Subaru used [Invisible Providence] as Elsa dragged moves but it was stopped in the air, Subaru used the shadow arms too block her attack, but too everyone else it stopped in mid air sense no one else can see it.

Elsa then looked at Subaru as she laughed looking at him. "So you are caster, I see will I gess I will take you out fast".

As then grabbed her second dagger, as then Subaru nearly dauged out of the way, as then she saw an ice projectile coming from him, as she jumped out of the way seeing it was.

[Daphne then spoke. "What are you doing use Gluttonous Consumption already, use my authority"].

Subaru looked at the battle as he moves the shadow arm as he spoke in his mind. "I need too get close, plus I am not sure if I want too just Eat her, maybe one of her skill".

As then Elsa was grabbed by [invisible province] as she hit the wall, see then gri uobas she saw Old Man Rom holding a his weapon, as seeing this she moved our of the way, as she swings her dagger as she cut the weapon in half, Felt then screamed as the dagger went too Old Man Rom body as it cut through his Stomich, as everyone eyes was Wident as they saw his organ spill our as Elsa Smirk.

Elsa walked over his body as she spoke. "What a beautiful look, one donw 3 to GO!".

She then throws her dagger as it went too hit Emilia as then shield came making the dagger go and Subaru grabbed as then they saw it, there was floating mini magic cat, with Emeral eyes

[Insert image of Puck]

Elsa looked at Puck as she spoke. "A smirt, I never cut the guts of a Spirit before, this will be my first".

Subaru then saw her smile, it was both very creepy and very beautiful, he then rushed blocking her attack, but he had zero figthing capability as he was then sent too wall, as then Subaru used [Invisible Providence] as the invisible arms moved Elsa moved away

Elsa looked as she spoke. "Even do I can't see what you are using, I can seeing trh object in the flying or move away".

Subaru gritted his teeth as he steadied himself against the wall. His invisible arms moved swiftly, attempting to keep Elsa at bay, but she was adapting fast. She could track the movement of objects reacting to the unseen force, making his advantage less effective.

Puck floated beside Emilia, his emerald eyes glowing as he smirked. "You really shouldn't have messed with Lia, you know? I guess I have no choice but to play a little."

A chilling wind filled the room as ice began to form under Elsa's feet. She leaped back, avoiding being frozen in place, but Puck kept pressing forward, hurling ice spikes at her. Elsa twisted her body mid-air, flipping between the attacks as if she were dancing.

Subaru, taking advantage of the distraction, mentally commanded his [Invisible Providence] to grab one of the broken wooden beams and hurl it at her blind spot. Elsa barely managed to duck under it, but that momentary distraction gave Emilia the chance to cast her own spell.

"El Huma!"

A freezing blast surged forward, slamming directly into Elsa's side. The Bowel Hunter skidded across the floor, ice spreading across her clothes. She clicked her tongue in frustration.

"Ahh... This is getting troublesome." Elsa glanced at the wound on her arm, a thin layer of frost still lingering. "I suppose I should stop playing around."

With terrifying speed, she closed the distance between herself and Emilia. Subaru's eyes widened as he lunged forward, pushing Emilia out of the way just in time. Elsa's dagger sliced through the air, grazing Subaru's side instead.

Pain erupted through his body, but Subaru ignored it, using [Invisible Providence] to shove Elsa back before she could strike again. Puck let out an irritated huff, his form glowing brighter.

"That does it. The sun is setting, and I'm not in the mood to drag this out."

The temperature in the room plummeted as Puck prepared to unleash a far stronger attack. Subaru felt his body grow colder just from being near him.

Elsa, still smiling, stepped back slightly, her instincts warning her of the incoming danger. "Tch... Time's up already? I was just starting to enjoy myself."

Without another word, she flipped backward and landed near the window. She gave one last glance at Subaru before grinning. "Next time, I'll make sure to cut you open properly."

With that, she vanished into the night.

Subaru collapsed to the ground, breathing heavily as blood trickled from his wound. Puck sighed, floating down to check on him.

"You're lucky she ran. Next time, let's try not to almost die, okay?"

Subaru just let out a weak chuckle. "Yeah... I'll try."

Elsie then looked at them as she was ready to escape. "Oh before I go".

As then Subaru was stabbed in the neck, as blood started come out, as Emilia was shocked going to him as Subaru Eyes went blank

Subaru woke up, as he was in garden, as then he punched in trh face as he was sent flying. "That hurt".

He then looked up too see a not Chibi Version of Minerva, as he looked at her, he then saw a table with all the other witches.

Subaru groaned as he pushed himself up from the ground, rubbing his sore jaw. "What the hell was that for?!"

Minerva crossed her arms, her blue eyes glaring at him. "You died again, idiot! And in such a pathetic way too! If you're going to get yourself killed, at least try to make it count!"

Subaru blinked before the memories of Elsa stabbing him in the neck flooded back. He instinctively reached for his throat, but there was no wound—just the lingering sensation of cold steel piercing his flesh. His breath quickened as the realization sank in.

"Damn it… I died again," Subaru muttered, clenching his fists.

"Yes, you did," a familiar voice called out.

Subaru turned to see Echidna, the Witch of Greed, sitting at the table with a smug smile. Around her, the other Witches were gathered—Sekhmet, Daphne, Typhon, Carmilla, Pandora, and even Satella, though she remained silent at the edge of the gathering.

Echidna gestured toward an empty seat. "Care to join us, Subaru? We were just discussing your impressive ability to get yourself killed in record time."

Subaru scowled but walked over to the table, taking a seat. He eyed Pandora warily, still not fully understanding her presence, before sighing deeply. "So, what now? I already know I have to go back and fix things, but what's the point of bringing me here first?"

Pandora smiled gently. "Oh, we just wanted to see how you were doing~. After all, dying must be painful, no?"

Typhon giggled, resting her chin on her hands. "Big bro is tough! But I think he's getting used to it~."

Subaru shot her an annoyed look. "Yeah, I'd rather not 'get used' to dying, thank you very much."

Minerva huffed. "Then stop making stupid mistakes! You were too focused on Elsa running away and let your guard down."

Subaru clicked his tongue, knowing she was right. "Fine. Then tell me—how do I beat her?"

The table went silent for a moment before Echidna spoke again, her eyes glinting with curiosity. "That depends. Do you wish to kill her or simply survive?"

Subaru frowned. "Surviving comes first. But if killing her is the only way to protect Emilia and the others… then yeah, I need a way to do that too."

Daphne, the Witch of Gluttony, perked up at that. "Ooooh, you should use my Authority more~! Devour her strength! Make her powerless! That way, you won't have to worry about her gutting you again~."

Subaru hesitated. The idea of using Gluttonous Consumption still felt… wrong. He wasn't ready to outright eat someone's existence.

"Any other options?" Subaru asked, looking around.

Sekhmet, the Witch of Sloth, yawned. "Just be… less useless. Use what you already have… properly… Mmm, I'm too tired to explain..."

Echidna smirked. "What she means is, you have tools, Subaru. You've been using [Invisible Providence] well, but your control is still weak. And you haven't even explored your connection to our Authorities beyond the basics. There's so much more you could do… if you were willing to learn."

Subaru's eyes widened slightly. "Wait… I can get stronger?"

Pandora chuckled. "Of course, dear Subaru~. But are you willing to pay the price?"

A shiver ran down his spine at those words. Whatever they meant, he knew one thing—he needed to be better. Stronger. He couldn't afford to die so easily again.

Subaru exhaled sharply, determination hardening his gaze. "Tell me what I need to do."

Echidna's grin widened. "Good answer."

Ding!

[New Ability Unlock Available: Witch Factor Synchronization]

[Would you like to unlock it?] [Yes] [No]

Subaru stared at the prompt, his heart pounding.

This was his chance.

He reached out—

And selected [Yes].

Subaru then looked at eachother as he spoke. "So where is my check point".

Satella spoke looking as she spoke in wishper "right after Emilia told her name".

Subaru then looked at her as he spoke. "Thank, but one question, how did I die the original 5 times".

Typhon then spoke looking at begin as she spoke. "It was back in your original world big brother we trye too summon you with our full power, but your body kept".

Echidna broke a class. "This, Return by death came up fully, basically you were stucked in a death loop".

Pandora then spoke looking at him. "That is why we made the system"

Subaru's blood ran cold at Typhon's words. His mind raced, trying to process what she just said.

"You… what?" he muttered, looking between the Witches.

Typhon pouted. "Your body kept breaking, big bro~. We tried our best to summon you properly, but you just kept… popping! Over and over again~."

Subaru's stomach churned at the imagery. He had experienced death 5 times which explains the 5 death point, but hearing that he had died five times before even making it to Lugunica… that was something else entirely.

Echidna sighed, setting down the shattered remains of her glass. "It was inefficient, to say the least. Satella was the only one who could stabilize your existence in this world. Without her, you wouldn't even be here."

Subaru turned his gaze to Satella, who remained quiet, her dark eyes filled with something unreadable.

"So… I was already dying before Return by Death even became a thing for me?" Subaru asked, his voice quieter than before.

Minerva huffed. "Hmph! You were weak! Your body couldn't handle it! You were lucky Satella pulled you through before you completely disappeared!"

Subaru exhaled sharply, rubbing his temples. "Okay, okay… I get it. So I should be thanking Satella for existing. Noted."

Satella flinched slightly at his words, her hands tightening into fists. "I… just wanted you to be here…" she whispered.

Subaru sighed. "I know. And I'm grateful… probably." He shook his head, clearing his thoughts. "Anyway, that still doesn't change the fact that I need to fix things. If my checkpoint is right after Emilia told me her name, then I have a shot at changing things for the better."

Echidna smirked. "Indeed. And now, with Witch Factor Synchronization, you might just have the means to do it."

Subaru blinked. "Right. That skill. What exactly does it do?"

Pandora leaned forward, resting her chin on her hand. "Oh, it's simple, dear Subaru~. You can now tap into the powers of the Witches more directly. Of course, it depends on how much your soul can handle… but I'm sure you'll find it quite useful."

Subaru narrowed his eyes. "That sounds way too convenient."

Echidna chuckled. "It is. But it also comes with risks. Push too hard, and you might burn yourself out. Use a power you don't understand, and you could lose control entirely. But I imagine you're used to taking reckless gambles by now."

Subaru sighed. "Great. Another dangerous ability. Just what I needed."

Minerva crossed her arms. "Just don't die like an idiot again!"

Subaru smirked slightly. "No promises."

Ding!

[Return by Death Activating…]

The world around him blurred as his consciousness was pulled back—

And Subaru woke up, standing in front of Emilia once more.

She smiled at him, completely unaware of everything that had just happened.

"My name is Emilia," she said.

Subaru took a deep breath, steeling himself.

This time, he wouldn't fail.
