Chapter 589: City Competition
After some back-and-forth banter with Alfred, the atmosphere finally shifted to a more lighthearted one.
"Sigh, that son of mine is really a nuisance. Instead of working properly in the company or attending school, he rather roams around and flirts with that girl, Catherine." Ning Huo knitted his brows, feeling a headache whenever the topic revolved around his son, Ning Yi.
"You shouldn't judge your son like that, Huo." Alfred shook his head and gently reminded him how his son managed to spot a corrupted seed like Dean Qiao.
"Hmph, did you think I would believe for a second that my son is capable of digging out dirt from a shrewd old man like Dean Qiao?" Ning Huo snorted and tapped his fingers on the desk.
For someone like Dean Qiao who was capable of hiding his wicked deeds even from him, Ning Huo seriously doubted it was the work of his son.
And now that he thought about it more deeply, Ning Yi only started to wake up and become active after meeting with the student next to Allison.
"Who was that student's name again that Allison has been taking care of for the past few days?" Ning Huo turned to Alfred and asked.
Instantly, Alfred held a cheeky expression on his face, almost as if he anticipated such a question coming from him.
"I've sent all the files to your email about him already. See how well I know about your antics." Alfred smirked and crossed his legs, feeling rather proud of guessing his train of thought process.
Feigning blindness and deafness, Ning Huo proceeded to search for the email and found the file that contained a detailed profile of the student, Xu Feng.
A few minutes later, Ning Huo narrowed his eyes and glanced at Alfred suspiciously, "Hmm, is this information fabricated?"
The more he read, the more Ning Huo doubted it was the truth.
Just how could someone so ordinary and barely making it day-to-day suddenly become an Energy Force fighter. Aside from that, the confidence and determination that Alfred kept clamoring about totally didn't fit the profile's description.
Suddenly, Alfred's expression turned solemn and nodded.
"I thought it was fabricated at first, but no, I've investigated thoroughly. And although very subtle, there's evidence that Dean Qiao's demise was related to this student Xu Feng. Your son might know something, but he's very tight-lipped." He continued, informing Ning Huo that it was one hundred percent true.
"If this is true, then how did someone change so drastically overnight? Did he reincarnate or something?" Ning Huo twitched his mouth, clearly baffled by the abnormalities.
"Maybe he is. Shall we capture him and dissect his brain to check." Alfred suggested, much to Ning Huo's annoyance. Explore stories on My Virtual Library Empire
"Yeah, go ahead and dissect him. See if your niece would talk to you anymore." Ning Huo gestured his hand, telling him to follow through with it.
"Hah, you're drunk if you think I'm going to do it or believe he's actually reincarnated. If he's reincarnated, then he'll be my godfather from now on." Alfred laughed heartily, completely unaware that his words might come to haunt him in the future.
"Anyway, have you found any good candidates yet?" Ning Huo asked softly.
The reason why Alfred arrived at this city wasn't because of Allison, but rather because he had been summoned by Ning Huo.
Meanwhile, Ning Huo shook his head in response. "It's hard to find good candidates, and I think the intruders had something to do with the upcoming City Competition. They probably thought you brought Allison over here for something big, so she got targeted."
Agreeing with that logic, Ning Huo also believed someone wanted to target Allison to make a move against him in reality.
"Which is why the city is on lockdown and I know there must be a mole, but even so, I'm not letting either of them escape. Since the mole wanted to betray the city, then I'll gladly eradicate them and the intruders in one swoop." Ning Huo exuded a murderous aura and declared.
Similarly, Alfred held the same thought process. Initially, he didn't really care much about the City Competition since it never affected him in any way.
However, to target his precious niece was equivalent to stepping on his tail.
That was something he wouldn't endure!
"It's just right that Allison informed me that her student owned an office at Apex Tower and wanted my son to train there. You can go to take a look and see if it's good or not." Ning Huo suggested.
"More like you wanted me to become your son's nanny and oversee his activity." Alfred twitched his mouth, but still nodded in agreement.
After all, he too was curious about the type of "training office" that Xu Feng had opened.
'If possible, he could be a good candidate.' Alfred thought, recalling how the latter managed to deflect and dissipate such a strong killing blow from the intruder whose level was at Tier 4.
…
Apex Tower, Parking Lot
Almost immediately after the car was parked, Allison hopped out of the car, making a vomiting action.
"You are never ever driving my car or any car where I'm the passenger again." Allison glared fiercely at Xu Feng.
She was especially eyeing the hands of Xu Feng, which were supposedly injured and charred black a few days ago.
How were they still so flexible and fast in maneuvering the steering wheel and the PRNDL!
"Hey, people would pay me a hell of good money to showcase those driving skills." Xu Feng corrected her, clearly trying to stand his point as a skilled driver.
"Yeah, count me out of those people's equation. I would pay you to not drive." Allison rolled her eyes.
Just as they were about to continue their banter, someone suddenly interrupted them with a surprised tone.
"Allison, is that you?"
"Huh?" Startled, Allison turned around and her expression quickly brightened up.
"Alexandra, I didn't expect to meet you here!" She exclaimed in joy and rushed over to give her a hug.
