Chapter 46 - There's a Supermarket Nearby
Once it was confirmed that there were no zombies left in the club, Pan Dawei came over and patted Tian Hai, who was sprawled on the ground, exhausted. With an appreciative look, he said, “Young man, you’ve truly lived up to the organization’s expectations. You have a bright future ahead; the organization needs talented people like you…”
Gasping for breath, Tian Hai asked, “What’s inside? How could there be so many zombies?”
Pan Dawei replied, “There’s treasure inside. Just wait; your old brother will go get it for you. I won’t treat you poorly.”
Tian Hai waited outside, filled with anticipation, completely forgetting about digging into the zombies’ heads.
Liu Bing came over and sat down beside him. “Damn it, Old Pan! He’s so calm while directing us, and we’re exhausted. We’ll have to tell him later to give me twenty packs of instant noodles.”
Tian Hai said, “The things inside might be very useful for the convoy. It’s okay to be a bit tired; consider it practice for our abilities…”
“You’re quite practical, huh? Besides food, what else do we need? We have no electricity and no internet…”
Liu Bing thought for a moment and then said, “But this place doesn’t look like it has any food…”
Tian Hai replied, “Maybe there isn’t much…”
“Yeah, that could be it…”
As the two were talking, they saw Pan Dawei carefully dragging a bookshelf out.
Liu Bing looked over and saw that the bookshelf was filled with books. He couldn’t help but regard Pan Dawei with newfound respect. “Brother Pan, you really are an intellectual! Even when food is scarce, you’re still thinking about studying. I admire that… Given how eager you are to learn, I’ll settle for just ten packs of instant noodles instead of twenty like I originally planned…”
As he spoke, he suddenly saw Pan Dawei pull out a magazine and, with a look of satisfaction, said, “Books are indeed the stepping stones of human progress…”
He handed the magazine to Liu Bing, and both Liu Bing and Tian Hai glanced at the title—”Mature Men’s Fashion.”
As for the content…
No need to look at the content; the half-naked woman on the cover was enough to tell them what kind of magazine this was.
Liu Bing: “…”
Tian Hai: “…”
They exchanged glances, and the meaning in their eyes was clear: I don’t want to say I know this sleazy old man!
Liu Bing tried to hold back his frustration but ultimately couldn’t. “Damn it, Old Pan! Can’t you do something meaningful? For the sake of a bunch of adult magazines, I might as well risk my life! We’re in the apocalypse, people are dying everywhere, and you’re still looking at this stuff!”
Pan Dawei shrugged. “Young man, you’re still too young…”
Liu Bing huffed in annoyance.
Pan Dawei returned the magazine to the shelf. “When you reach my age, you’ll understand.”
Liu Bing shifted his gaze to the villa area.
“Young man, you need to see the bigger picture.”
Liu Bing finally turned his head. “Damn it, since that’s the case, why don’t you tell me what you mean by ‘the bigger picture’?”
Pan Dawei seemed to be waiting for him to say that. He stepped forward a couple of paces, stopped, and said, “Young man, since you asked sincerely, I’ll kindly tell you…”
Liu Bing: “…”
He shouldn’t have said anything in the first place!
“You just said that this is the apocalypse, and people are dying everywhere. But you have to understand that the apocalypse isn’t something we caused; we aren’t the ones to blame, at least not me.”
“Even if it’s the apocalypse, life has to go on. People can’t just live in endless sorrow. Those who have died are already gone. No matter how much you cry, what can it change? I also have a daughter who is missing, but I can’t just sit around and cry all day!”
“Also, books are the stepping stones of human progress; they are spiritual nourishment. In order to maintain my drive and spirit, after ensuring my basic needs are met, what’s wrong with me developing my hobbies?”
“Furthermore, there are so many zombies here. If you have the ability, isn’t it good to help the country, society, and ordinary people who might come here by eliminating some monsters?”
“And finally, after you deal with these zombies, won’t you also improve your abilities? Doesn’t that help you?”
Liu Bing: “…”
After hearing such a long lecture, Liu Bing surprisingly felt that Old Pan made some valid points.
At the very least, he found himself unable and unwilling to refute!
If given the chance, he would definitely study hard and learn to argue effectively!
During lunch, Tian Hai brought back a large number of crystal cores, almost a hundred.
Tang Ruo curiously asked where they came from.
Tian Hai glanced at Tang Ruo, twitched his lips, and simply said that he had collected them while wandering around the neighborhood.
He really didn’t want to talk about the stupid thing he did earlier that morning, running to the clubhouse to clear out zombies because of that *XX magazine*!
Oh! Let’s not mention the past anymore!
In the evening, Hu Haotian gathered everyone together.
The villa Hu Haotian was in wasn’t the one he initially had; he had later chosen the model villa next to Bai Qi’s.
This villa had many guest rooms and a large living room; even with sixteen people sitting in the living room, it didn’t feel crowded.
The main purpose of Hu Haotian gathering everyone today was to discuss a nearby supermarket.
His company was involved in the construction of the “Royal Court” and knew that there was a large supermarket nearby, which was also under their management.
“That supermarket isn’t officially open yet; it’s just been renovated. But I heard that a shipment of goods arrived before it opened, and since I was the one who handled that shipment, I can confirm that there are supplies there…”
Having supplies meant there were resources. In a place where people hadn’t even moved in yet, it was certain that the supermarket’s supplies would still be intact, so the group decided to go to the supermarket near the neighborhood to gather supplies.
Although Tang Ruo and Bai Qi had supplies, they decided to join this operation to avoid unnecessary suspicion.
Early the next morning, the members of the convoy gathered early in the open space between the three villas. Although everyone still had supplies, who would complain about having more food, right?
Hu Haotian counted the number of people and arranged the groups.
Among the remaining sixteen people, only seven had abilities, not including Tang Ruo.
With the seven ability users, plus Tang Ruo and Hu Haotian’s bodyguard, a team of nine was formed.
Hu Haotian intended for those without abilities to stay in the villa, but seeing that Bai Qi was holding the girl’s hand and had no intention of letting go, he decided not to say more.
If they were determined to stick together through thick and thin, why should he break them apart?
During the grouping, Pan Dawei actively requested to be in a group with Liu Bing and Tian Hai.
Pan Dawei expressed great satisfaction with their success yesterday.
Liu Bing and Tian Hai twitched their lips, indicating that they really didn’t want to be in the same group as him.
However, their objections were ineffective.
In total, there were just two groups. Bai Qi, Tang Ruo, Liu Bing, Tian Hai, and Pan Dawei were all assigned to one group.
Hu Haotian felt that he was more experienced, so he assigned Pan Dawei as the team leader of the first group.
Liu Bing and Tian Hai immediately felt stifled.
They wanted to cry!
Tang Ruo and Bai Qi found their expressions particularly amusing.
Pan Dawei was just a bit talkative; there was really no need for him to act as if he was ready to face death, right?
