"Ding! Charmander gained 38 experience!"
"Ding! Charmander gained 36 experience!"
"Ding! Charmander leveled up to Lv11!"
"This leveling speed is insane! We haven't even reached Viridian City yet, but we're getting close. I'll head there after completing this hidden mission."
Satoshi checked the battle logs, noticing that the experience gained had decreased compared to earlier battles.
It was normal. With Charmander and Froakie both above level 10, fighting wild Pokémon below level 8 wasn't as rewarding anymore. Of course, Satoshi still received far more experience than other players.
However, he knew better than to share this information. If other players found out that he was complaining about the experience gain despite leveling so fast, they'd accuse him of being arrogant—or worse.
"Still, this forest has been great for training. I've even managed to catch a few Pokémon for my Pokédex. Completing a certain number of entries has its own rewards."

"My rank is at Junior Trainer now. I think the Trainer Strength Leaderboard unlocks at Intermediate level, so I should be on that soon. If I'm the only one on the list, the other players' reactions will be priceless!"
Satoshi glanced at the Pokémon he had captured so far:
[Owned Pokémon:
Charmander
Froakie
Caterpie ×2
Metapod
Weedle ×2
Kakuna
Oddish
Pidgey
Raticate ×2
Spearow
Tangela]
"Compared to other players who can only catch Pidgey, Raticate, and Caterpie in the early game, I've caught a lot more.
And while most of them have Elite potential, my Pidgey even has Gym Leader potential. I bet the leaderboards are already full of my Pokémon!"
Satoshi laughed to himself for what felt like the hundredth time that day.
However, he quickly refocused on the task at hand.
"Ah, there he is—the hidden mission giver."
Satoshi was now very close to Viridian City, but he had spotted the person he needed to find for the hidden mission. He walked toward the figure without hesitation.
The person was a young boy wearing shorts, carrying a bug-catching container and a net, and sporting a straw hat. He appeared to be searching for something in the bushes.
"Hello! Are you a Trainer? My name is Satoshi, and I'm a Rookie Trainer. Would you like to have a Pokémon battle?"
[Hidden Mission Trigger Condition #1: Challenge and defeat Bug Catcher Cole in a Pokémon battle].
Satoshi knew this boy all too well. In his previous life, he had encountered Cole countless times in the Pokémon games. While Cole's Metapod and Kakuna, which only knew Harden, were annoying, in this world, he was the key to triggering a unique hidden mission.
Most players didn't know this because Cole would ignore anyone who simply asked for help. The only way to trigger the mission was to challenge him to a battle.
In his previous life, a player had discovered this by accident and completed the mission. That player then proudly shared the mission details on the forums, unaware that this information would now belong to Satoshi.
"Thank you for sharing your findings in the past," Satoshi thought with a smirk. "All your hidden tasks are mine now."
Satoshi suppressed a chuckle, maintaining his professionalism as he awaited Cole's response.
"Sure! My name is Cole, and I'm also a Trainer. Let's battle!"
Cole smiled and took out a Poké Ball.
"If I remember correctly, Cole uses two Pokémon: Caterpie and Weedle, both at level 7. The NPC Trainers never evolve their Pokémon early—it's a weird quirk of the game."
Satoshi decided that this would be a perfect opportunity for Froakie to gain experience.
"Froakie, you're up!"
"Quack!"
Froakie stepped forward confidently.
Satoshi was full of confidence. After all, Cole's Pokémon were just Caterpie and Weedle, while Froakie was one of the three starters. There was no way he could lose.
Or so he thought.
"Wow, I've never seen this Pokémon before!" Cole exclaimed. "It must be strong, but I won't back down. Come on out, Beedrill!"
"Hiss!"
A Beedrill emerged from Cole's Poké Ball, buzzing menacingly as it pointed its sharp Twineedle at Froakie.
[Name: Beedrill
Attribute: Bug/Poison
Ability: Swarm (Increases Bug-type move power by 1.5× in critical moments.)
Level: 12
Potential: Advanced]
Satoshi: "…"
Beedrill: "You're not fighting Caterpie or Weedle anymore—face me instead!"
Satoshi's confidence faltered as he realized he had seriously underestimated Cole.
