Chapter 6: Close Encounter!
This Pokemon had blue eyes and a spike jutting on top of its back. Its body was covered in thick metal armor everywhere except its dark grey undersides. The armor itself had small openings, probably for respiration and sight.
Indeed, this Pokemon was Aron. Which happened to be a favorite food source for Beldum. In fact, Metang always brought newborn Beldums an Aron as their first meal.
It was both a Steel and Rock type, so it was packed with everything nutritiously needed for Beldum. Feasting on an Aron helped Beldum develop its eye and its levitation organ.
Leon and Aron stared at each other for a moment, while Leon took this time to inspect Aron.

Leon's eyes widened at the sight of Aron's aptitude. There was no doubt this Pokemon was amazing.
Aron turned and started running away after its stare-down with Leon.
"Beldum, don't let it run! Attack!" Leon laughed, this Aron was just too slow. This was probably due to its nature, but he knew it couldn't escape.
Beldum, in a similar fashion, rocketed toward Aron. Its body moved with precision, and within a matter of seconds, it slammed into Aron's backside.
"Aru~" Aron cried out as it was sent twirling through the air like a frisbee.
Beldum used its vastly superior weight and momentum to pull this all off. Even though Aron was hit by this attack, it quickly recovered.
Seeing the situation, Aron knew it had no choice but to fight since running was of no use. Suddenly, large rocks levitated in the air and lunged at Beldum.
"Dodge it!" Beldum quickly dodged to the side to evade the hurdle of rocks.
"Use another Iron Head, let's go!" In the same way, Beldum rushed toward Aron to attack again.
This time, Aron lashed out with an [Iron Claw], with both parties displaying a metallic gleam.
Perhaps, Aron would have done well in this exchange, but [Iron Head] did more damage. Furthermore, Beldum's whole body was covered in this Metallic, not to mention momentum and its [Metal Claw] not being very effective.
Aron was once again tossed like a ragdoll to the nearest wall. This caused the wall it had slammed into to collapse.
Leon already had a Pokeball in his hand and was prepared. He drew closer and quickly tossed the Pokeball at the dazed Aron.
"It really does have a high defense, even with that—it stood back up; only dazed." Leon saw that Aron was dazed, but that was it.
Nonetheless, Aron was hit and encapsulated by the Pokeball. It shook right, left, right, and with a small explosion, it burst out.
"What..." Leon was stunned but not for long. "Beldum, use another Iron Head and make sure to hit him hard. Defeat it and I'll give you those Iron ores that it was eating."
Leon saw that his Pokeball had been blown to smithereens upon Aron's escape. This made his heart bleed a bit since Pokeballs were hard to acquire at the moment.
Beldum seemed more enthusiastic upon hearing Leon's words. This time, it poured in a lot of its strength to ram Aron. A loud metal clacking sound was heard once Beldum came into contact with Aron.
This time, Aron fell to the ground with its eyes shut. Once again, Leon tossed another Pokeball, but this time, he caught it.
"Yeah, let's go! That little guy was giving me a bit of trouble." Leon wanted to complete this quest. Judging from the quest, it might want him to complete the Pokedex.
"You can eat that Iron ore if you want." As much as Leon wanted the Iron ore, he needed Beldum at full capacity, always.
Beldum was delighted and proceeded to devour the Iron ore greedily.
Leon gazed around the large circular cave room. There was this pond, but judging from the dripping water coming down rapidly, it was still raining. Leon deduced that it was still a harsh downpour outside.
Leon was inspecting the pond, when he saw several leaves floating on it. There was also something else floating on top of the pond.
-----
[Caster Fern: This item is used in crafting. A fern used for crafting items made to be thrown. When these curled leaves are unfurled, they can serve as nature's wrapping paper.]
[Vivichoke: This item is used for crafting medicinal items. Also called a morning-dew bud. It is used as a material for crafting items that can restore vitality to a Pokémon that has fainted.]
-----
"Oh, these items are used to craft things. I'm not a crafter, but it would be nice to learn and become one." Learning how to craft would save him money. Leon could even make money if did things right.
"If I can remember the craft recipes, I can make some money before leaving this island. Being a Pokemon trainer ain't cheap, I'm sure of it." Leon turned to Beldum, its eating habits spoke for itself.
Aron and Beldum were voracious eaters. If they weren't properly fed—then your car, bicycle, or any other metallic-man-made things would become their meal.
"Come to think of it; all of the Pokemon I have highly favor Iron as a food source." Leon knew he would need to buy or mine his Pokemon's food.
However, once they were in the Inventory, their hunger and the Pokemon itself would go into a stasis-like state.
"I'll figure it out later. What I need to do now is get these herbs out of the water." Leon walked closer but found that he couldn't see the bottom of the pond.
Leon placed his hand on the water before churning it forward to create waves. This rotated the water waves his way to draw the herbs toward him.
Leon smiled as he managed to grab one of the Caster Ferns floating on the water. He placed it into his Inventory before continuing the process.
"I think I can only grab one more, but the others will be hard to obtain." Leon turned to Beldum, perhaps it could levitate over and grab them.
Beldum was almost done dining, so Leon decided that he would allow Beldum to grab them.
"I can get this one on my own though." Leon continued his attempts at getting the Caster Fern.
"Almost..." Right as Leon was about to grab the Caster Fern, a shadow within the pond darted at him frantically.
Leon's heart thumped as he quickly retreated away after seeing the silhouette. The shadow was fast, but Leon was just fast enough.
This fish leaped out of the water and attempted to bite Leon's hand! Leon's heart was palpating from adrenaline, this was probably why he moved so fast.
Leon stood up and backed away from the water. Beldum looked over since it was done eating all of the Iron ore. Beldum was even surprised because it couldn't sense this Pokemon's presence.
This Pokémon's body was covered in tiny, sharp denticles. The top half of its spherical body is blue, while the bottom half is red with a yellow, four-pointed star below its mouth.
It has two yellow dorsal fins above its eyes that resemble shark fins, and a matching pelvic fin on its belly.
It was a Carvanha!
"This little bastard was trying to tear my hand or arm off. Why is a Carvanha in a pond, they don't dwell in ponds!" Leon was fearful and furious at the same time.
Pokemon were equivalent to animals that had powers, with an increased intellect. They were by no means stupid, or mostly clueless to the point where every action they took was instinct.
Carvanha sat on the water and glared at Leon with its sharp gaze. It looked disappointed to see Leon escape from its jaws.
Carvanha's eyes flash with a red light, sending shivers down Leon's back. This caused him to break out into a cold sweat.
"W-what was that..." Leon continued to glare back at Carvanha while previewing its status.
-----
----
'This little bastard has way too many advantages against me.' Leon was saddened that he couldn't carry out justice for himself right away.
It had a terrain advantage, level advantage, and type advantage.
"I know you understand what I'm saying, you just wait for me to come back and beat you down." Leon pointed at Carvanha with a cold grin and said.
Carvanha puckered its jaw—as if it was trying to provoke Leon. Leon scoffed, he could only give up on the medicinal herbs for the time being.
Leon gazed around the room carefully, while ignoring the fiery glare of Carvanha.
He discovered a pathway that led deeper into the cave. This was probably where Aron emerged from to get here.
Leon sighed before taking a seat on a medium-sized rock. He pulled out the manual he received from the system starter box.
"I should have brought a table and chair set with me." Leon continued to scroll through the manual from before since he stopped reading after the map download.
Leon saw that there was another Island close to this one. It was called Ashefall Island, where a large Volcano was present.
This Island contained mostly Fire, Rock, Ground, Grass, and Bug-type Pokemon. Before going to the mainland, Leon wanted to visit this place.
If he couldn't, then he wouldn't; as it wasn't a priority.
"The Volcano is home to a large number of fire-type Pokemon. When I go there, there is a specific encounter I hope to have. I'll have to choose the best fire type because Hoenn doesn't have many."
Leon looked over and saw that Carvanha was still present. It was swimming around the pond with its two yellow dorsal fins cutting through the water's surface.
Leon took out a bottle of water and gulped it down before stretching and standing up. Beldum, at some point, had appeared by Leon's side and just levitated there silently.
"Beldum, I'm gonna need you to search for Iron veins. If you focus enough, you should be able to detect them around here."
The mountains were known for their Ironworks. This is what aided the Pokemart on this Island in making such a profit.
The Pokemart's people usually had someone guarding the mountains. The only people they would allow here were the people from the corporate-owned store.
It was raining so hard that the guards weren't present. Furthermore, they didn't believe anyone would be so brave to venture into the mountains.
"Did you sense Carvanha before it attacked me?" Leon turned to Beldum and asked.
'No, I didn't sense it.' Beldum answered bluntly.
"Why couldn't you sense it? You can sense everything else, but not some fish." Leon was confused. Shouldn't a Psychic Pokemon have supreme senses or something?
'I don't know.' Beldum couldn't explain why, it just didn't know.
Beldum had okay intelligence, it wasn't super smart or smart. At least as a Beldum, however, that would change when it became a Metang.
Beldum mostly ran on instinct, this was why Leon had to always remind it not to eat certain things.
"Ugh..." Leon dropped the question, there was no point since he wouldn't get an accurate answer.
"Let's explore the cave more, but I need you to work while we're doing that. Make sure you send out your senses to detect any Pokemon or Iron Veins."
Leon was going to need Iron ores to feed Nosepass and Aron at some point. He wasn't only gunning for a Six Pokemon team.
Leon wanted to have a rotation of Pokemon to use—if it was possible. Perhaps Eight or Nine, if he could make it happen.
'Yes,' Beldum gave a simple reply.
"And you, don't you run away, I will come back in the future to settle the score with you." Leon pointed at the Carvanha swimming around the pond.
He couldn't let such a good Carvanha escape, this Pokemon actually had its Hidden ability.
This was too rare, it was moving so fast in the water that it looked as if a whirlpool was forming.
Carvanha didn't react to Leon's words, but it had indeed heard what he said. Leon signaled Beldum to follow him, as he ventured deeper into the depths of the mountain.
