Chapter 89: Chapter 89 - Marshall's Past

Third person POV

(Flashback, years ago in Kalos…)

Marshall was a loyal grunt to Team Flare, doing their orders and criminal stuff the villainous organization made him do. He had a good childhood, but he was corrupted by greed and selfishness upon joining Team Flare. Marshall, even though he worked for them, doubted his actions. And then, just as the climax of Team Flare's grand plan was going on, Marshall began to doubt what he had been doing. Now, he came to his senses and regretted everything and planned to ditch the villainous organization while their plan progressed at first. But after Ash and his friends stopped Team Flare's plans and had them arrested, Marshall changed his plan to ditch the arrested group while in prison.

(In prison…)

So, he did so by confronting Lysandre's subordinates in the prison's socializing area, before declaring his resignation from the disbanded organization (Lysandre's fate is unknown.) They were angry at his insolence.

 "How could you say that?"

 "Yeah, you stupid kid!"

"Whatever," Marshall responded calmly and briefly, "I learned my lesson. Once I get out, I'll live a normal, law-abiding life. You guys should do that, too."

After saying his words, he gestured to the guards to take him back to his cell.

His guards did so, and the grunts and subordinates of Lysnadre were angry at him, hurling out curse words at him before being scolded by the nearby prison guards.

And so, once back in his prison cell, Marshall began to reflect on his actions and began to change his attitude back to his original, cheery personality for the entire prison sentence, which lasted for 2 years and 5 months. His Pokémon never left him and stayed by his side during his prison sentence.

(2 years and 5 months later…)

So, his efforts for positive change paid off when he was released from prison after that amount of time. It was thanks to his changed attitude and personality, which were being kind, compassionate, and nice. After being released, Marshall grabbed his Team Flare grunt uniform, pulled the Team Flare logo out of it, and threw it away while vowing, "I'll never be bad again."

After that, he wore it and gave his prisoner's clothes to the guards, before grabbing his minimum number of belongings and leaving the prison property with his two loyal Pokémon.

Shortly after that, Marshall and his Pokémon team tried to adapt into their post-prison life in Kalos but received some judgment stares from some people. Because of this, the Trainer and his Pokémon team felt intimidated. So, Marshall went to his father's house in Lumiose City and stayed there for a day. His father, who was only upset that his son did something wrong, was happy that he had come to his senses and was ready to help him in any way for his new life as a changed person. Marshall eventually asked him for some money so he could travel the world with his Pokémon. His father, who seemed to be different from the citizens of Kalos, eventually agreed, giving him some money. And after that, Marshall packed up and left home with his Pokémon to travel the world. In the following months, they would hop from one place to another, city to city, town to town, trying to search for a place to start anew. Along the way, Marshall and his Pokémon spent time together. Finally, the Pokémon Trainer and his Pokémon team landed in Kamias City and moved to Iona River District City, where Marshall got a job as a cashier at a bakery. For him, life was good as a changed person.
