Pokémon: Day Bringer

Chapter 17: Silver

As the trio continued their journey to Goldenrod City, the air was thick with anticipation for what lay ahead. Their casual pace slowed when they spotted someone ahead of them on the road. It was Silver—the same young man they had seen leaving Bugsy's gym earlier. He stood tall, his crimson hair swaying in the wind, his sharp red eyes locking with Haru's determined black gaze.

Silver stepped forward, his presence radiating intensity. "Are you Ethan?"

Haru raised an eyebrow, caught off guard by the use of his first name. He crossed his arms, his tone cautious but curious. "Yes. Do you need something?"

Silver smirked, his confidence evident as he pulled out a Pokéball. "I want a battle. I've heard The Prodigy of Johto has returned, and I want to see if the rumors are true."

Haru stared at him, studying his demeanor. "What do you get from this?"

Silver's smirk faltered for a moment, replaced by a more serious expression. "I'm also taking the Gym Challenge, and I intend to win the Johto League. Testing my strength against someone like you is only natural."

Jessie and James exchanged glances, intrigued by Silver's boldness, while Meowth muttered, "Another hotshot lookin' for trouble, huh?"

Haru let out a small chuckle, his confidence unwavering. "Fine, but don't cry when you lose."

Silver's eyes narrowed, his grip tightening on his Pokéball. "Fine then. Starter versus starter. Let's see what you've got!" With a flick of his wrist, he released his Pokémon. "Croconaw, let's do this!"

The blue, crocodilian Pokémon landed on the ground, its sharp teeth glinting as it growled.

Haru mirrored his movement, pulling out his Pokéball and tossing it into the air. "Marshtomp, I choose you!"

Marshtomp emerged in a flash of light, its orange and blue form glowing with strength. It pounded its fists together, eager for the fight.

Jessie leaned toward James. "This ought to be interesting."

James nodded. "Haru versus someone just as determined. This is going to be good."

Meowth added, "If Haru plays it smart, dis kid's Croconaw ain't gonna stand a chance!"

Silver wasted no time, pointing directly at Marshtomp. "Croconaw, use Water Gun!"

Croconaw inhaled deeply and shot a powerful stream of water toward Marshtomp.

Haru smirked. "Marshtomp, dodge it with Mud Shot!"

Marshtomp swiftly countered, firing a glob of mud at the ground to propel itself sideways, narrowly avoiding the Water Gun. The mud splattered toward Croconaw, partially obscuring its vision.

Silver growled in frustration. "Shake it off, Croconaw! Use Ice Fang!"

Croconaw lunged forward, its fangs glowing with an icy chill.

"Counter with Rock Throw!" Haru called out.

Marshtomp quickly slammed the ground with its fists, sending sharp rocks flying toward Croconaw. The rocks struck Croconaw mid-leap, halting its attack and forcing it to retreat.

Silver gritted his teeth. "You're good. But we're not done yet! Croconaw, Scary Face!"

Croconaw glared at Marshtomp, its face contorting into an intimidating snarl that briefly froze Marshtomp in place.

Haru saw the opportunity and smirked. "That won't stop us. Marshtomp, end this with Aqua tail!"

Marshtomp summoned a water on his tail with energy and hurled it at Croconaw. The attack hit dead-on, sending Croconaw skidding backward.

Silver's eyes widened as Croconaw struggled to get back up, only to collapse moments later.

Silver recalled his Pokémon, clenching his fist. "You're strong... stronger than I expected."

Haru smiled, walking forward and extending a hand. "You're not bad yourself. Keep training, and maybe next time, you'll win."

Silver hesitated before shaking Haru's hand. "I'll remember this. Next time, I'll beat you."

As Silver walked off into the distance, Jessie, James, and Meowth approached Haru.

"That was impressive," Jessie said, crossing her arms.

James nodded. "You didn't even break a sweat."

Meowth added, "Yeah, but dat kid's got spunk. He might be trouble down da line."

Haru watched Silver disappear over the horizon, his expression unreadable. "We'll see. For now, we've got a city to reach and a gym to conquer."

With that, the trio continued on their way to Goldenrod City, the echoes of their battle still lingering in the air.

Jessie looked at Haru. "You did good".

Haru looked at James. "Did good, I thought I was going to lose".

James looked at Haru. "You did good".

Haru looked at James. "Did good, I thought I was going to lose".

James gave Haru a reassuring smile. "Did good? Haru, you had that battle in the bag. Even if you thought you were going to lose, you kept your cool and played it smart."

Haru sighed, running a hand through his hair. "Smart or not, Silver was no pushover. I wasn't expecting his Croconaw to pull off moves like Ice Fang so soon. For a moment, I really thought I'd messed up."

Jessie smirked, placing a hand on her hip. "Well, you didn't. You kept control, adapted, and came out on top. That's what matters."

Meowth chimed in, wagging a claw. "Dat Silver kid may be tough, but he ain't got da experience you do. You've been trainin' like a madman, Haru. It's startin' to show."

Haru gave a small smile, looking at Marshtomp, who was walking beside him, proud and confident after its victory. "I guess we're getting stronger... but we can't let our guard down. Trainers like Silver are only going to get tougher from here."

James chuckled, patting Haru on the shoulder. "That's the spirit. Now, let's keep moving. Goldenrod City is waiting, and I hear the gym there is no joke."

Jessie's eyes glinted mischievously. "Not to mention the shopping district. I need to see what Goldenrod has to offer."

Meowth groaned. "Great, just what we need—a shoppin' spree."

The group laughed, the tension from the battle easing as they continued their journey. Haru, however, couldn't shake the memory of Silver's determination.

If there are more trainers like him out there... this journey is going to be a lot harder than I thought, Haru mused, tightening his resolve.

Haru then stopped. "Right is should check your current move set Marshtomp, let's see all your moves, so far, I know we replace tackle with rock slide".

Haru then scanned his Pokémon as he saw his Pokédex then started to glow as he saw it

The lit up as the Pokedex Processed the information

Marshtomp - Water/Ground Type

• Type: Water/Ground

• Ability: Moxie

• Moves:

° Rock slide

° Aqua Tail

° Water Gun

° Bide

Haru looked at Marshtomp. "Will I already have your final move set plan, but this good for now, maybe we will replace Bide with Ice Been, when time comes, let's check EV and IV".

As Haru looked at the Pokédex, it displayed Marshtomp's EV and IV stats in glowing detail. Haru took a moment to carefully analyze the data, tapping on the screen to get a closer look.

Marshtomp - Water Type

Ability: Moxie

IV Stats:

HP: 25/31 (Exceptional)

Attack: 20/31 (Great)

Defense: 28/31 (Outstanding)

Special Attack: 15/31 (Good)

Special Defense: 18/31 (Decent)

Speed: 22/31 (Very Good)

EV Stats:

HP: 120

Attack: 100

Defense: 150

Special Attack: 30

Special Defense: 70

Speed: 90

Haru nodded to himself, impressed by Marshtomp's growth. "Your IVs are solid, especially in defense. I think we'll definitely keep working on boosting your attack, but your speed's looking pretty good too."

He then turned to Marshtomp with a grin. "And it looks like we've got some work ahead of us. You've got a solid foundation, but we still need to fine-tune your stats. When you evolve, we can make sure you're in top shape for the tougher battles."

Marshtomp gave a content grunt, clearly proud of its progress.

Haru was about to say more, but then noticed a slight shift in the air, as if something was drawing closer. He glanced at Jessie and James, signaling them to be on guard.

"Let's keep moving. We've got a battle plan to perfect before we hit Goldenrod," Haru said, tucking his Pokédex away as he led the group forward, his mind already planning ahead for Marshtomp's next evolution and his team's future growth.

Later that night, James looked at Haru. As James pulled out his Scyther.

Haru looked at games. "So need some tips James".

James looked at him. "Will yes, you do have Scizor, so I was thinking if the moves you have on her will work on mine".

Haru looked at James Scyther. "Will let's see, Scizor moved her, Bullet Bunch, Bug Bite, Sword Dance and Aerial Ace, my Scizor is built for battle that what she likes, that why the movest it this"

James nodded as Haru examined Scyther's moveset. "So you're saying I should focus on building my Scyther for direct combat too, like your Scizor?" he asked, sounding a bit unsure.

Haru smirked and raised an eyebrow. "Well, Scizor is a different beast, but Scyther can definitely hold its own in a fight. If you want Scyther to evolve into something like mine, you'll need to get some things sorted out first."

James was eager for more advice. "So, what should I focus on then?"

Haru took a moment to think, inspecting James's Scyther carefully. "Scyther's a fast and offensive Pokémon, so for moves, I'd suggest starting with something to cover both its speed and power. You already have the basics—Aerial Ace is a good priority move for type coverage, but for offensive versatility, you might want to teach it Swords Dance like Scizor. That'll help it bulk up and hit even harder."

James nodded, feeling more confident. "Got it, so I should focus on power and speed. What about Bug Bite?"

Haru chuckled. "Bug Bite is solid for its typing, but if you're going for pure offense, consider a move like X-Scissor to boost its Bug-type damage. You could even replace it with something like U-turn for some strategic hits and to maintain momentum during a fight. Scizor uses Bullet Punch to stay on top of things, but for Scyther, it's all about breaking through quickly."

James immediately began to envision his Scyther's future in battle, planning moves for better control and synergy.

"Thanks for the tips, Haru. I'll make sure Scyther gets stronger, just like Scizor," James said with a determined grin.

Haru gave a small nod. "No problem. Just remember, it's not about having a move set that works in theory—it's about making sure your Pokémon is ready for whatever challenge is ahead."

James and Scyther exchanged a look, both excited for the future. Haru continued to reflect on his own journey, aware of the path that lay ahead for him and his Pokémon, but also reminded of the importance of nurturing each bond and battle.

"Alright, let's get some rest. Tomorrow, we keep moving forward," Haru said, signaling the end of the discussion as he turned back toward the campsite.

Then Haru noticed the felling again, he gut up he looked at Scizor as then he spoke. "Sword Dancer and Bullet Punch now, left Bush".

Scizor didn't wait even for a second, as she powered up and attack, after she came out there was knocked out Houndour that was just looked for food.

Jessie just looked at him. "I think jumped the gun with this one".

Haru just chuckled. "The Pokemon Center is close by"

As he sent a Great Ball and Captured the Houndour, after that they went to the Pokémon center, and they healed the Pokémon and the. Houndour then was given some food

Haru looked at his new Pokémon. "Sorry that I jumped the gun there little one"

As Haru sat by the counter, watching the Houndour eat, he couldn't help but feel a sense of responsibility for the Pokémon he'd just caught. Scizor, still standing at attention next to him, seemed to sense his unease and gave a soft click of her pincers, as if reassuring him.

Jessie, who had been silently watching the whole exchange, spoke up. "You know, Haru, Houndour isn't a bad catch. You've got a dark/fire type now, which could really help against those pesky Psychic and Ghost-types. Not to mention, it'll be a good addition to your team."

Haru nodded thoughtfully, his eyes still on the little Houndour, who had finished its meal and now lay on the floor, content and relaxed. "You're right. It's just that I wasn't expecting to capture it like that. I was more focused on making sure Scizor was in top form. I didn't even think a wild Pokémon would be lurking around here."

James, overhearing, added with a smirk, "Sometimes, you get surprises like that. But hey, you've got a strong team. Houndour could be a solid addition."

Haru glanced back at James, considering the thought. "I don't know if I'm ready to add another member to the team just yet. I have to focus on the ones I have, especially after the battles we've been through. But... I'll give Houndour a chance. It's a strong Pokémon, and it may have potential."

The nurse at the counter then handed over the healed Pokémon, including the newly caught Houndour. Haru took them, nodding his thanks. He looked at Houndour again, this time with a more determined expression.

"We'll see what you're made of, little one. I'm not the best at keeping Pokémon I don't train properly," Haru muttered, more to himself than anyone else.

Jessie smirked. "Don't worry, Haru. You've got this. Just don't go setting off any more wild ambushes."

Haru chuckled softly, then stood up, ready to move forward with the group. "Let's head out. We have a gym to challenge and a long road ahead."

As the trio left the Pokémon Center, Haru took one last glance at Houndour. It was new, it was unpredictable, but it might just be the kind of wildcard his team needed in the coming challenges.

James looked at Haru. "Do you have a move set ready for him".

Haru then noded. "By the point her Houndour evolved into a Houndoom, I am planing that he will have Nasty Plot, Fire Blast, Dark Pulse and for covers Solar Beam"

James raised an eyebrow, clearly impressed. "That's a solid moveset, Haru. Nasty Plot to boost his Special Attack, Fire Blast for strong STAB, Dark Pulse for reliable Dark-type damage, and Solar Beam for coverage against Water- and Ground-types. I like it."

Haru nodded, a determined glint in his eyes. "Exactly. Houndour has great potential, but I'll need to train him well. I'll also need to be careful with his evolution. I want him to be strong and ready for whatever battles lie ahead, but I need to make sure I handle his development properly."

James chuckled, a grin tugging at his lips. "You always plan ahead, huh? Gotta admit, I'm impressed. But just remember—sometimes, letting a Pokémon evolve naturally and at their own pace can be just as important as the moveset you teach them."

Haru smiled, appreciating the advice. "I know. That's why I'll keep an eye on Houndour and make sure we're in sync with each other, not just in battle but also in how he grows."

With the conversation wrapping up, Haru felt a sense of resolve. The path ahead was full of potential challenges, and he had a solid plan for his new Pokémon. As they walked toward Goldenrod City, the trio was ready for whatever came their way next.
