The next morning arrived, the group was going to Bugsy gym as someone came out of Gym, as they saw him

He was a tall, slender young man with crimson red hair, pale skin, and dark eyes. He seemed to be Haru age he walked aw

The squad walked passed, as they came in they saw Bugsy, putting his team to heal as he looked at Haru.

Bugsy looked at him. "Hey Haru, just had a battle and lost, so how many badge".

Haru looked at him and spoke. "1 badge, what you expected you to be my last gym leader".

Bugsy just looked at him and sighed. "Yeah kinda hope so, anyway I chois you, come out Scyther, remeber 3 on 3".

Haru just smirked. "Alright, Mudkip I choose you".

Bugsy's eyes widened slightly as Haru sent out his Mudkip. "Mudkip, huh? You always did like to start things off strong. But let's see how you handle my Scyther's speed. Scyther, Quick Attack!"

The green mantis Pokémon vanished in a blur, streaking towards Mudkip with incredible speed.

Haru smirked. "Mudkip, counter it with Water Gun! Aim at the ground."

Mudkip let out a powerful jet of water, propelling itself into the air just as Scyther's attack reached where it had been. The move dodged the Quick Attack completely and gave Mudkip an advantageous position above Scyther.

"Now, use Mud-Slap!" Haru commanded.

Mudkip twisted midair and sent a spray of mud straight at Scyther, hitting its face and partially obscuring its vision.

Bugsy clicked his tongue. "Not bad. Scyther, shake it off and use Wing Attack!"

Scyther flapped its wings powerfully, clearing its eyes and closing in on Mudkip with glowing blades.

Haru's smirk widened. "Mudkip, Protect! Then follow up with Tackle!"

A shimmering barrier appeared around Mudkip, blocking the incoming Wing Attack. As soon as the shield faded, Mudkip shot forward, slamming into Scyther with surprising force and knocking it back.

Bugsy grinned, clearly enjoying the challenge. "You're good, Haru, but let's crank it up. Scyther, Agility! Then Fury Cutter!"

Scyther began moving even faster, its form blurring as it launched a series of slicing attacks at Mudkip. The first hit connected, but Mudkip managed to dodge the next one, bouncing back onto its feet.

Haru's expression turned serious. "Mudkip, use Water Gun at full power! Keep Scyther at a distance!"

Mudkip unleashed a powerful stream of water, forcing Scyther to stay back. The two Pokémon continued to clash, with Haru and Bugsy calling out commands in rapid succession.

Finally, Haru saw an opening. "Mudkip, finish it with Aqua Tail!"

Mudkip charged forward, slamming into with she Aqua Tail Scyther with all its strength. Scyther staggered and finally fell to the ground, unable to continue.

Bugsy returned Scyther to its Poké Ball. "Not bad, Haru. But we're just getting started. Go, Beedrill!"

The giant bee Pokémon emerged, its twin stingers glinting dangerously.

Haru nodded, recalling Mudkip. "You've done great, buddy. Take a rest. Now, it's your turn—Elekid!"

Jessie, James, and Meowth watched intently from the sidelines, impressed by the intensity of the battle.

James leaned closer to Jessie. "Looks like Haru hasn't lost his edge after all."

Jessie smirked. "I'd say he's just getting started."

Elekid came out her Pokeball, as she looked at Beedrill, Beedrill just stopped and look back at Bugsy with a face that says, was my ass getting but kicked once was not enough today

Bugsy chuckled nervously at Beedrill's expression. "Hey, come on, Beedrill, it's just one battle. Don't look at me like that. You've got this!"

Elekid, on the other hand, smirked confidently, cracking her tiny knuckles. She was ready for round two.

Haru crossed his arms, his tone calm but firm. "Elekid, don't take this lightly. Beedrill might look reluctant, but Bugsy's no pushover. Get ready."

Bugsy straightened up, regaining his composure. "Alright, Beedrill, let's show them we're not done yet! Use Toxic Spikes!"

Beedrill hovered above the battlefield, scattering purple barbs all around Elekid's side of the field.

Jessie raised an eyebrow. "Setting up already? This is going to be tricky."

Haru's expression didn't falter. "Elekid, dodge the spikes and use Thunder Shock!"

Elekid leaped into the air, avoiding the spikes, and unleashed a bolt of electricity straight at Beedrill. The attack struck Beedrill mid-flight, making it shudder and nearly lose balance.

Bugsy gritted his teeth. "Hang in there, Beedrill! Counter with Twinneedle!"

Beedrill darted forward, its stingers glowing as it aimed for Elekid.

Haru smirked. "Elekid, block it with Protect!"

A shimmering barrier appeared around Elekid just as Beedrill's stingers struck. The attack was nullified, and Beedrill was forced to retreat a few steps back.

"Now, Elekid, use Low Kick! Aim for the wings!"

Elekid rushed forward, sweeping her leg in a low, powerful kick that clipped Beedrill's wings. Beedrill let out a cry as it wobbled in mid-air, struggling to stay up.

Bugsy clenched his fists. "Beedrill, regain control and use Sludge Bomb! Don't let up!"

Beedrill steadied itself and launched a blob of toxic sludge at Elekid.

Haru was ready. "Elekid, counter with Thunder Shock! Full power!"

Elekid unleashed a powerful burst of electricity, colliding with the incoming Sludge Bomb. The explosion sent sparks and smoke flying, obscuring the battlefield for a moment.

When the smoke cleared, Beedrill was still hovering but visibly worn out, while Elekid stood firm, her expression determined.

Haru took a deep breath. "Time to end this. Elekid, use Brick Break"

Elekid's fist crackled with electricity as she charged forward, leaping high into the air and delivering a devastating punch to Beedrill. The attack hit squarely, sending Beedrill crashing to the ground.

Bugsy sighed as he returned Beedrill to its Poké Ball. "You've still got it, Haru. I'm down to my last Pokémon. But don't think I'm out yet. Go, Heracross!"

The large, blue beetle-like Pokémon emerged with a roar, its horn gleaming as it stamped the ground.

Jessie nudged James. "This is getting intense. Think Haru can keep it up?"

James adjusted his glasses. "If I've learned anything by now, it's to never doubt him."

Meowth nodded. "But Heracross ain't no pushover. This is gonna be a fight to remember."

Haru then called our "Meowth go".

Meowth just looked at Haru. "What why me".

Haru looked at him. "Don't worry I have plans, plus you knek Iron Tail, and you also have Bite, Fake Out and Fury Swipes".

Meowth just looked at him and made a quick prayer to Arceus.

Meowth reluctantly stepped onto the battlefield, muttering under his breath. "Great, a giant beetle versus a cat. What could go wrong?"

Bugsy smirked, clearly confident. "Heracross, Megahorn! Let's end this quickly."

Heracross stamped the ground, its powerful horn glowing with a dangerous energy as it charged toward Meowth.

Haru narrowed his eyes. "Meowth, Fake Out! Distract it!"

Meowth's eyes widened, and before Heracross could close the distance, he launched himself into a quick, deceptive swipe with his claws, causing Heracross to flinch and momentarily lose its momentum. The attack made Heracross halt its charge for a second, its horn retracting slightly in surprise.

Bugsy frowned. "Nice trick, but it won't save you. Megahorn again!"

Heracross quickly regained its composure, charging toward Meowth once more with even more intensity. But Haru wasn't about to let up.

"Meowth, Iron Tail!" Haru commanded.

Meowth's tail gleamed with steel-like brilliance as he swiftly pivoted, slamming it into Heracross's horn. The impact caused sparks to fly, and Heracross stumbled back, slightly dazed but still standing strong.

Jessie watched in amazement. "Meowth's actually holding his own? This is more than just a kitty fight!"

Bugsy raised an eyebrow, impressed. "You're not the same as before, Haru. But we're not done yet. Heracross, Brick Break!"

Heracross's large, powerful arms glowed with energy as it swung them at Meowth, trying to break through his defenses.

Haru immediately reacted. "Meowth, Fury Swipes! Hit it hard!"

Meowth dashed forward, his claws swiping rapidly, landing multiple quick hits on Heracross's body. Each strike was sharp and precise, but Heracross still managed to land its Brick Break right after, knocking Meowth back with a powerful blow.

Meowth skidded to a stop, but he wasn't down yet. He looked back at Haru, determination in his eyes. "I ain't going down yet!"

Haru gave a firm nod. "You're doing great, Meowth. One more time—Iron Tail!"

Meowth's tail glowed once again, and with an agile leap, he swung it toward Heracross's side. The hit landed with a resounding clang, and Heracross wobbled, finally showing signs of exhaustion.

Bugsy clenched his fists, then smiled. "Well played, Meowth. You've earned your place on the battlefield, but it's time to end this. Heracross, Close Combat!"

Heracross's body erupted with power as it rushed toward Meowth, ready to land a devastating close-range attack.

"Meowth, Bite!" Haru called out quickly.

Meowth rushed forward to intercept, clamping his sharp teeth down on Heracross's arm just as it attempted the Close Combat strike. The sudden move caused Heracross to pause, giving Meowth just enough time to land a few extra nips, wearing down the giant beetle further.

Heracross let out a growl of frustration, but it was clear it was running low on energy. With one last push, it tried to launch another Megahorn, but Meowth dodged the strike, landing behind it.

Haru took a deep breath. "Alright, Meowth, finish it with Fury Swipes one last time!"

Meowth dashed in, his claws moving at lightning speed, and with a flurry of strikes, he overwhelmed Heracross. The final blow sent the giant bug toppling to the ground.

Bugsy returned Heracross to its Poké Ball, giving a defeated yet respectful sigh. "You've come a long way, Haru... Meowth's moves were impressive. Looks like I've got no choice but to give you this."

Bugsy walked over to Haru and handed him the Hive Badge, a symbol of their victory. "You've earned it. I've got nothing left to teach you in terms of battle. Just remember, there's always more to learn, no matter how strong you get."

Haru smiled, accepting the badge. "Thanks, Bugsy. I'll remember that."

Jessie and James cheered from the sidelines, and even Meowth gave a small victorious smirk.

"See, not bad for a 'kitty' after all," Meowth said, clearly proud of himself.

"Nice job, Meowth!" Haru said, patting him on the head. "You made a big impact today."

Bugsy watched them for a moment, then spoke up. "You know, Haru, if you keep this up, you might just have a chance at that Championship title again."

Haru and then group then saw something, Mudkip was glowing as he was ready to evolves, as they closed there eyes.

Haru and the group watched in awe as Mudkip's form began to glow with a brilliant light. His body shimmered with energy, and the glow enveloped him entirely. The group could feel the tension in the air, unsure of what was happening.

Elekid, however, crossed his arms, feeling a bit put out. "Oh sure, Mudkip gets to evolve, but I don't. Great, just great..."

Meowth, still feeling a bit of the excitement from the last battle, glanced over at Elekid. "Hey, quit complaining, you'll get your time, ya know. Besides, look at the little guy!" He pointed at Mudkip, who was still glowing.

With a burst of energy, Mudkip's evolution was complete. The glowing light dissipated, revealing a newly evolved Marshtomp standing proudly before them. His body had grown stronger, his limbs bulkier, and the water/ground type had a newfound confidence.

The group cheered in excitement.

"Wow, look at you now, Marshtomp!" Haru exclaimed, a wide grin on his face.

James and Jessie shared in the excitement. "So cool! You've got yourself a strong partner, Haru!"

But before anyone could say anything further, the glow returned. It shimmered again as if Marshtomp was preparing to evolve once more. The group stared in anticipation, but to their surprise, the glow quickly faded, and Marshtomp stood still, his body no longer changing.

Elekid, feeling a bit better about the situation, shook his head with a small sigh. "Well, guess he's not going all the way just yet."

Haru stepped forward, kneeling beside Marshtomp. "It looks like you were almost there, huh?" He smiled softly at his Pokémon. "But maybe this is just the right time for you. You've already made so much progress."

Marshtomp gave a nod, seeming content with the power he had gained. It may not have evolved further just yet, but Haru knew Marshtomp was more than ready for the challenges ahead.

Bugsy, who had been watching from a distance, walked over, a smile on his face. "Looks like your Marshtomp is ready to take on the next phase of his journey. Evolution is always a powerful thing, but it's not just about power. It's about knowing when you're ready."

Haru nodded, grateful for the encouragement. "Thanks, Bugsy. We'll take it one step at a time."

As the group gathered around Marshtomp, Haru felt a renewed sense of excitement for what lay ahead. With his Pokémon evolving and growing, he knew the road to the Championship was just beginning.

Later that evening, after a busy day of bonding with his Pokémon, Haru found himself in the Pokémon Center, sitting in a quiet corner with his Pokédex in hand. He pulled out his phone and dialed Professor Elm's number, eager to update him on Marshtomp's progress.

The screen flickered, and Professor Elm's face appeared. His usually calm and thoughtful expression shifted into curiosity as he greeted Haru.

"So, Mudkip has evolved," Elm said, a hint of excitement in his voice. "So, does that mean he's acquired the Torrent ability yet?"

Haru, still sitting in the corner with his Pokémon nearby, shook his head. "No, not yet," he replied, glancing at Marshtomp, who was resting comfortably by his side. "He's still got Moxie."

Elm sighed, his face momentarily filled with disappointment. "Ah, there goes my theory," he muttered. "But that's alright. At least we still have its final evaluation to look forward to. The abilities will come together eventually, and that will give us more insight into Marshtomp's potential."

Haru smiled, though he knew there was still work to be done. "I'll keep an eye on him. And once we get to the next few gyms, we'll see how things shake out. Moxie might just work for us in the meantime."

Elm nodded thoughtfully. "That's a good mindset. Sometimes the most unexpected abilities can turn out to be a Pokémon's greatest strength. Keep me posted on his progress."

"I will," Haru said. "Thanks, Professor. I'll get back to work with Marshtomp and the rest of the team."

As the call ended, Haru sat back in his chair, deep in thought. Elm's support was always valuable, but now it felt like his bond with his Pokémon, especially Marshtomp, was growing stronger each day. He had a feeling that whatever came next, his team was ready for it.

The challenges ahead felt like they were getting closer, and Haru couldn't help but smile. The road to becoming the Champion of Johto was still long, but he was ready to face it one evolution at a time.
