Pokémon: Day Bringer

Chapter 14: Getting an old Pokémon

Haru, James, Jessie and Meowth went to Bugsy gym, as they looked at Haru and Bugsy.

Haru's voice was steady, though there was a hint of hesitation as he spoke. "Do you have her?"

Bugsy raised an eyebrow, his purple eyes gleaming with knowing. "Did you get Staraptor from Whitney?"

Haru sighed, running a hand through his hair. "More or less... He doesn't trust me much."

Bugsy chuckled softly, almost as if he were amused by the situation. "What makes you think she will forgive you?"

Haru's gaze shifted, a flicker of uncertainty in his eyes before he answered. "I can try."

Jessie, James, and Meowth exchanged confused glances, the tension in the room thickening as they tried to piece together what was going on. They had seen Haru as a confident, capable trainer, but there was something here—something unresolved—that they couldn't quite grasp.

Bugsy, seemingly unfazed by the awkwardness of the moment, turned toward a wall in the gym. He pressed a hidden button, and one of the walls slid open, revealing a row of Poké Balls that were unlike the ones Haru had seen before. These were more sophisticated, much like the ones used by leaders such as Falkner.

Without saying much, Bugsy took one of the Poké Balls, a Premier Ball, and approached Haru. As Bugsy tapped it lightly against Haru's chest, the Poké Ball opened with a soft click, releasing a Pokémon that was all too familiar to Haru.

Out of the ball emerged a Scizor, sleek and sharp, with a metallic sheen that glinted in the light. It was Haru's Scizor—the same one he had trained with and trusted during his earlier journey. But the reaction that followed wasn't what Haru had anticipated.

The moment Scizor appeared, it didn't strike or prepare for a battle, as Haru had expected. Instead, it moved quickly and wrapped its powerful claws around Haru in a gentle embrace, pulling him into a tight hug.

Haru froze for a moment, his eyes wide with surprise. "Hey, there buddy..." he whispered under his breath, his voice barely audible.

Bugsy watched the exchange with a small, knowing smile. "Expect a different reaction?" he asked, his voice tinged with amusement.

Haru stood there, momentarily stunned, his thoughts racing as he processed what was happening. Scizor, his Scizor—his old companion—wasn't angry or upset. It wasn't trying to fight or test his strength. Instead, it was showing affection, a silent but clear gesture that it had forgiven him, that it still trusted him despite everything that had happened.

Haru gently returned the hug, his voice shaking slightly. "I didn't expect this... I wasn't sure she would forgive me."

Bugsy observed silently, his arms crossed as he leaned against the wall. "It's not just about forgiveness, Haru," he said, his tone more serious now. "Pokémon aren't like people. They don't hold grudges the way we do. They just want to know you're still there for them."

Haru nodded, the weight of Bugsy's words sinking in. His emotions were a mess, a tangle of guilt, relief, and hope. He had always known Scizor was special, but seeing her again after so long, after everything that had happened—it made him realize just how much he had lost, and how much he was willing to do to make things right.

Jessie, James, and Meowth watched the exchange, their confusion only growing as they saw Haru in a different light. They knew he had a history, but they hadn't seen this side of him before.

James scratched his head. "So, uh... what exactly is going on here?"

Meowth shrugged, still unsure of the whole situation. "Seems like Haru's got some kind of history with that Scizor."

Jessie crossed her arms, her voice skeptical but softer than usual. "But what does this mean? What's the deal with Haru and Bugsy?"

Haru, still holding Scizor in his arms, looked over at Bugsy. "This is... my past," he said quietly. "My old Pokémon. I didn't want to leave them behind, but I had to. I didn't think I'd ever get a chance to make things right. But maybe I can now."

Bugsy smiled faintly, his gaze shifting between Haru and Scizor. "You've got a lot of work to do, Haru. But you're not alone. You've got your Pokémon, and you've got people who care about you. You just need to trust that, and trust yourself."

Haru didn't answer immediately, instead taking in Bugsy's words. For the first time in a long while, he felt a glimmer of hope—a small, quiet hope that maybe, just maybe, things could be different.

"Alright," Haru said, finally releasing Scizor from the embrace and giving her a gentle pat on the head. "Let's see what we can do together."

Bugsy nodded, a glint of approval in his eyes. "That's the spirit. Now, are you ready for a battle? Because if you want to take on Azalea Town's Gym, you'll have to prove you've truly got what it takes."

Haru cracked a small smile, his confidence returning. "Let's do this."

And with that, the two trainers—Haru and Bugsy—prepared to face off once more, but this time, it wasn't just about a gym battle. It was about redemption, about rebuilding old bonds, and proving that no matter what the past held, the future was still in their hands.

Haru then looked at him. "But Tomorrow, I am going to bond with Scizor and my other Pokémon need to meet her".

Budgsy just srugged and looked at him. "Fair enough".

Haru then looked at him. "So did you make any changes to Scizor for the 6 years you had her, I just wanna know".

Bugsy just looked at him. "Dude why would, you made the best move set for her, I mean Bullet Punch, Bug Bite, Sword Dance and Aerial Ace".

James just looked at him. "Wait what"

Bugsy looked at James. "You guys don't know".

Jessie just looked at Haru. "You said, you started your journey when you were 10 you had this move set down when you were train, what you are prodigy".

Haru scratches the back of his head. "Yeah pretty much".

Bugsy looked at them, and laughed at that. "They didn't know you nickname, If Whitney is know as the gate keeper".

James looked at Bugsy. "Gate keeper".

Bugsy then looked at them, as he pushed his close as Haru was annoyed. "Ethan Haro Bit Harmonian, over here was know The Prodigy Of Johto"

Haru looked at Bugsy. "Did you have to pull out my full name".

Jessie, James, and Meowth froze for a moment, letting the weight of the revelation sink in. Then, almost simultaneously, they exclaimed, "The Prodigy of Johto?! What?!"

Haru groaned, rubbing his temples. "Bugsy, really? Was it necessary to pull out the full title and my full name? I'm trying to keep things low-key here."

Bugsy smirked, clearly enjoying Haru's discomfort. "Oh, come on! They deserved to know. It's not every day you travel with someone who was once the youngest trainer to dominate most of Johto. People still talk about the kid who strategized like a veteran and trained his Pokémon to be absolute powerhouses."

Jessie folded her arms, raising an eyebrow at Haru. "And you never thought to mention this? Seriously, The Prodigy of Johto was just going to be your little secret?"

James added, "Yeah, especially when you're teaching us stuff left and right. It makes sense now why you're so good at this!"

Meowth chimed in, "Yeah, it's no wonder ya been givin' us crash courses in Pokémon battles like some kind of professor!"

Haru sighed, trying to downplay the situation. "Look, that was a long time ago. I'm not the same trainer I was back then. Starting over wasn't just a choice—it was something I needed to do."

Bugsy chuckled, clearly amused. "Sure, sure, but the nickname sticks. You might be starting over, Haru, but you can't erase the fact that you're a natural. Scizor and the rest of your team are proof of that."

Jessie and James exchanged glances before James smirked. "Well, looks like we hitched our wagon to a rising star, Jessie. Think of all the fame and fortune we could—"

Jessie elbowed him sharply, cutting him off. "We're trying to reform, James. No scheming!"

Haru shook his head, chuckling lightly. "You three are hopeless. Anyway, tomorrow's going to be all about bonding with Scizor. For now, can we stop talking about me like I'm some kind of legend? I'm just a trainer trying to figure things out."

Bugsy gave him a teasing salute. "Whatever you say, Prodigy."

Haru groaned again as the group left the gym, Jessie, James, and Meowth still marveling over their new discovery.

In the Pokémon Center, Haru sat cross-legged on the floor, watching as Elekid emerged from its Pokéball in a burst of light. The small, electric Pokémon stretched its arms, sparks crackling faintly from its prongs as it looked around.

Scizor, standing nearby, regarded Elekid with a calm yet curious gaze. Mudkip and Meowth, who had already bonded with Scizor earlier, sat off to the side, observing the interaction with interest.

Haru leaned back, a little tense. "Alright, Elekid, this is Scizor. You're both part of my team now, so play nice."

Elekid turned to look at Scizor, its stubby arms crossed in a display of confidence. It stomped one foot playfully, almost as if it were challenging Scizor. Scizor tilted its head, then extended one claw in a gesture of friendly acknowledgment.

Mudkip nudged Meowth and whispered, "Think they'll get along?"

Meowth smirked. "Eh, dey'll figure it out. Elekid's just a lil' hothead, but Scizor ain't da type ta lose her cool."

Elekid suddenly darted forward, tapping Scizor's claw with its prongs and releasing a small zap of electricity. Haru winced, ready to intervene, but Scizor simply stood there, unfazed. The metallic Pokémon calmly lowered its claw and gave a faint smile—a clear sign it didn't take offense.

"Well, that's a good start," Haru muttered, watching as Scizor and Elekid began circling each other. Elekid jabbed playfully with its tiny fists, and Scizor countered with light, deliberate movements, almost like a sparring match.

After a few minutes of this back-and-forth, Elekid grinned, clearly impressed by Scizor's composure and skill. It gave a small, satisfied nod, and Scizor returned the gesture.

Haru let out a relieved sigh. "Looks like they're gonna be fine. Honestly, I was worried Elekid might fry something in the process."

Mudkip hopped over to the pair, wagging its tail cheerfully, and Meowth followed suit. The four Pokémon now stood together, a clear sign they were beginning to bond as a team.

Jessie and James, watching from nearby, exchanged glances.

Jessie smirked. "Well, looks like the Prodigy of Johto still has a knack for team building."

James nodded. "They've got good synergy. Haru might really pull off this whole journey restart."

Haru rolled his eyes but smiled slightly. "You know, you guys could help instead of just providing commentary."

Meowth, overhearing this, stretched lazily. "Kid, ya got dis covered. Besides, we're da moral support!"

Haru laughed softly as he looked back at his team, feeling a surge of pride. For the first time in a while, he felt like his journey was truly coming together.

James looked at Haru. "So was Scizor fully EV and IV trained".

Haru scopes at that. "Was, what do you think".

Jessie looked at him and laughed. "Oh it is not like you Maxed you all the EV and IV of whole Old team..... Oh my Arcus you did didn't you".

Haru then pulled out his Pokédex but he scanned Scizor and gave to James and Jessie to train. "I wasn't called Prodigy for noting, why don't see it".

James eagerly grabbed the Pokédex from Haru, scanning through Scizor's data. His eyes widened as he skimmed over the stats. "No way... maxed EVs and IVs in every category? This is insane! Haru, how did you even manage this?"

Jessie leaned over James' shoulder to get a look. Her jaw dropped as she saw the stats. "You're telling me this isn't just some overhyped nickname? You really went all out, didn't you? This Scizor's a monster!"

Haru smirked, crossing his arms. "What can I say? Back then, I had all the time in the world and a bit of an obsession with perfection. Scizor was my pride and joy, but... I also learned the hard way that there's more to Pokémon than just numbers."

James handed the Pokédex back, still in awe. "You're telling me your entire old team was like this? Fully EV and IV trained, perfectly balanced movesets, optimized everything?"

Haru nodded, a hint of nostalgia in his expression. "Every single one of them. Scizor was my ace, but my whole team was built to cover every possible scenario. It was fun, sure, but also... exhausting. I forgot to enjoy the journey itself."

Jessie shook her head, laughing. "And here I thought you were just some overachiever. Turns out you're the overachiever. No wonder Bugsy called you the Prodigy of Johto."

Meowth chimed in from the side. "Yeah, yeah, but all dat trainin' ain't worth nothin' if ya ain't got heart, ya know? Pokémon ain't just numbers on a screen."

Haru smiled faintly at Meowth's words. "Exactly. That's why I restarted my journey. I want to reconnect with my Pokémon, not just treat them like battle machines. Scizor and I have a lot to catch up on."

James clapped Haru on the back. "Well, I have to say, I'm impressed. You've got the skill to back up your reputation. But now I'm curious—what's the rest of your team like?"

Haru chuckled, tucking the Pokédex back into his pocket. "You'll see soon enough. For now, let's focus on getting through this gym challenge. Bugsy's no slouch, and Scizor and I will need to be at our best to prove we've still got it."

Scizor, standing nearby, gave a confident nod, its red claws gleaming under the Pokémon Center lights. It was clear that it shared Haru's determination, ready to take on whatever challenge lay ahead.

Meowth looked at him. "If you were this strong, why did you desiperd for 6 years as Bugsy said, why are you doing this reset".

Haru looked at him. "Because I lost in the world championship, crushed destroyed mocker".

Jessie just looked at him. "Wait if you were this strong, who beat you".

Haru eyes went dark, he gritted his teeth. "Fuck him, he is the reason I released all my Pokémon, why I stopped Pokémon training for 6 years, and in the mean time he Became a Elite Four Member of Kanto, and now he is the damm champion of Johto"

Meowth was frozen he looked at him. "Um who was he"

Haru looked at him and spoke. "Gess who, a certain Powerful Dragon Trainer, Fucking Lance".

Jessie, James, and Meowth all froze at Haru's words. The name Lance carried immense weight in the Pokémon world. Known as a fearsome Dragon-type trainer, Lance was a legend, a symbol of power, and now, Haru's greatest source of bitterness.

Jessie blinked, trying to process the revelation. "Wait... you mean the Lance? Red cape, Dragonite, basically a walking cheat code Lance?"

Haru clenched his fists, his expression darkening further. "Yeah. That bastard. I fought him in the World Championship finals. I was so close—so damn close. My team gave it their all, but... he crushed me. And not just in battle. He mocked me, said I relied too much on strategy and numbers, that I didn't have the heart of a true trainer."

James frowned, his usual lighthearted demeanor gone. "That's rough. But… you're not just some random trainer. You're Haru, the Prodigy of Johto. How did he manage to break you like that?"

Haru sighed, leaning back against the Pokémon Center wall. "It wasn't just losing the battle. It was how he made me feel like everything I worked for was meaningless. He didn't just beat me; he humiliated me. After that, I couldn't even look at my Pokémon without remembering how I failed them. So, I released them, one by one. Told them to find new trainers who deserved them. Then, I disappeared."

Meowth crossed his arms, his face uncharacteristically serious. "So ya gave up on everythin'? But now yer back, so somethin' musta changed."

Haru nodded, his gaze softening slightly as he glanced at Scizor, who was standing nearby, watching him with concern. "I realized running away wouldn't change anything. My Pokémon didn't blame me for losing; I blamed myself. They gave me their all, and I threw that away because of my own pride. So now, I'm starting over—not for Lance, not for revenge, but for me and my Pokémon."

Jessie placed a hand on her hip, her tone sharp but supportive. "Well, good. Because honestly? Screw Lance. You've got what it takes to climb back up and surpass him. You just need to stop letting his words live rent-free in your head."

James nodded, giving Haru an encouraging grin. "And with us around, you've got backup. We'll help you get to the top, one way or another."

Meowth smirked. "Yeah, and when ya do, ya can knock Lance off his high horse. That guy needs a taste of humble pie."

Haru chuckled, their words easing some of the weight he carried. "Thanks, guys. I appreciate it. But this journey isn't just about Lance. It's about rediscovering why I became a trainer in the first place. And with Scizor back, I think I'm finally starting to remember."

Scizor stepped forward, placing a reassuring claw on Haru's shoulder. The bond between them, though fractured by time, was beginning to heal. And as Haru looked at his Pokémon, he felt a spark of hope reignite within him.
