Pokemon Battle System: I Reincarnated As A Charmander

Chapter 97: Chapter 97: Bisharp's Slash

Seamlessly transitioning between different moves is a crucial combat technique that both Pokemon and Trainers should master. Lian's execution proved highly effective, swiftly defeating the Drifblim.

Kalia clenched her fists, impressed by Charmeleon's consistently remarkable performance. With one opponent's Pokemon down, just one more victory would secure their win for this floor challenge.

Each defeat for the challenger adds to their loss count, and after accumulating five losses, they must retreat to the lower level and restart the challenge.

Some Trainers, lacking sufficient skill, frequently suffer defeats, causing them to get stuck on specific floors. Clearly, the Trainer before them seemed often trapped on the fifth floor.

This battle was progressing smoothly; although the opponent's Pokemon were decent, their battle experience fell short.

With Charmeleon's strength, unless countered by a type advantage, its chances of winning remained high.

"Darn it! Am I really about to lose?" The young Trainer felt disheartened. His Drifblim had already been defeated, marking yet another similar failure. If this continued, he risked dropping back a level.

"Please dispatch your next Pokemon, Trainer," the robot referee prompted at this moment.

"Go, Bisharp!"

The young trainer reluctantly tossed another Poké Ball, sending out his second Pokémon, a dual Dark and Steel-type Bisharp.

On the fifth floor, battles were conducted in a 2v2 format. This was to accommodate Trainers who had recently ascended from the red star rank, as many of them primarily relied on two strong Pokémon, with their third still developing and not yet ready for combat.

Of course, some Trainers possessed three fully developed Pokémon, allowing them to challenge floor guardians with three Pokémon teams—a common battle mode for intermediate-level Trainers or higher.

The young trainer had three Pokémon, but his third one, being Water-type, was still underdeveloped. Currently, apart from Drifblim, only Bisharp demonstrated significant strength.

However, facing Charmeleon's Fire-type, Bisharp had certain disadvantages, causing frustration for the young trainer. Yet switching to the Water-type Pokémon would offer even less chance of victory.

Seeing Bisharp enter the field, Kalia, while not taking it lightly, felt somewhat relieved. It is well-known that Steel-type Pokémon are weak against Fire-types. Although Bisharp boasts excellent attack and defense capabilities, its other attributes are average at best.

Bisharp was nearly completely countered by Charmeleon, but its offensive capabilities should not be underestimated; maintaining distance would be crucial.

"Charmeleon, Flamethrower!"

"Bisharp, Metal Burst!"

Both Trainers issued their commands simultaneously. Kalia continued with Flamethrower, as no other move could match its effectiveness against Bisharp. The young Trainer opted for Metal Burst, a challenging technique for Steel-type Pokémon to master.

Metal Burst amplifies the opponent's move power, causing a violent explosion within the Steel-type's metallic body, which inflicts significant damage on itself.

However, it returns even greater harm to the opponent, based directly on the opponent's move strength. This return damage bypasses type resistance and attribute bonuses, making it highly effective regardless of elemental advantages.

Lian almost thought he misheard; his opponent seemed desperate enough to risk using Metal Burst, an unstable move. If Kalia had changed her command at the last moment, Metal Burst would have been rendered ineffective.

Nonetheless, under certain circumstances, Metal Burst can be highly impactful, albeit causing substantial self-damage—a trade-off that often seems unfavorable.

However, how could this Trainer be so confident that Bisharp could withstand a Flamethrower? Lian's current Special Attack ability was nearing 800, combined with double effectiveness against Steel-type Pokemon, ensuring a guaranteed instant knockout.

No matter how one considered it, unless Bisharp's level exceeded thirty, enduring such a Flamethrower seemed virtually impossible.

Without hesitation, Lian decisively unleashed Flamethrower. Intense flames erupted from his mouth, as scorching orange-red fire raced towards Bisharp.

Facing the approaching inferno, Bisharp appeared somewhat intimidated but still obeyed its Trainer's command to directly confront the Flamethrower head-on.

As the flames engulfed Bisharp, its steel body began turning red and expanding. Simultaneously, Bisharp started charging towards Lian.

However, midway through, unable to endure the searing heat any longer, before it could release Metal Burst, Bisharp collapsed, abruptly halting the move.

"Bisharp!" The young Trainer was stunned; unexpectedly, Bisharp couldn't withstand the attack.

As Bisharp charged towards Lian, he felt slightly nervous. Metal Burst is considered a wide-range move, generating explosive shockwaves that might be difficult to evade.

Fortunately, Flamethrower proved potent enough to instantly defeat Bisharp before it could unleash Metal Burst; otherwise, Lian could have been caught off guard by its counterattack.

In the first battle, Kalia secured a swift victory, yielding a perfect outcome.

The young trainer, seemingly accustomed to defeats, swiftly recalled his Pokémon and hurried out of the room to restore its condition.

Kalia also left the arena, awaiting her next opponent's assignment. Since her Pokémon remained unharmed, she didn't need to enter the healing room.

Soon, the second challenge began, with Kalia entering Room 3 once again, ready for the incoming challenger.

Evening approached.

After concluding her final battle, Kalia exited the room, wiping the glistening beads of sweat from her forehead with her pale hand. Throughout the day, she had continuously commanded intense battles against exceptionally strong Trainers. It was undeniable that such exertion left her weary.

On several occasions, Kalia encountered opponents who completely outclassed her, dominating every aspect of the battle. Although Charmeleon managed to hold on for a while, the overwhelming disparity eventually led to defeat.

It was evident that these Trainers had likely descended from the higher floors. Their strength far surpassed the fifth level, easily defeating other fifth-floor Trainers but falling short when challenging the sixth floor.

For Kalia, this day proved immensely enriching as she faced a diverse range of Pokemon, many of which she had never encountered before. This combat experience was invaluable to her growth.

"Tomorrow at 8 sharp, thank you for your hard work."

Manager Gus was clearly satisfied with Kalia's performance; she demonstrated the perfect caliber for the fifth floor, indicating that she could serve as its long-term floor guardian.

"Understood." Kalia collected her payment for the day and left the Battle Tower, returning to the library.

In the evenings, she spent time reading, studying, chatting with Grandma Mana, and playing with Vulpix.

Later that evening, within the System space.

Lian reviewed his combat rating for the day, beaming with satisfaction. Just battling one Drifblim earned him over 1,200 Combat Points, and adding the encounter with Bisharp, he surpassed 2,000 Combat Points in total rewards.

If every day could yield such high combat ratings, it would be incredibly lucrative. The Battle Tower truly is a fantastic place.

With over 2,000 Combat Points, Lian immediately used them all to enhance his Water Resistance, raising it from 1.75 to 1.54, leaving him with only 78 Combat Points remaining.

If he could consistently improve at this rate daily, someday soon, he'd reach a Water Resistance of '1', making him completely immune to Water-type moves.
