In the blink of an eye, five days had passed.

Kalia faced numerous challenges from various Trainers daily, keeping her fully engaged. Each day, she participated in at least ten battles, encountering challengers with formidable strength.

Over these five days, Kalia experienced dozens of battles, winning most but also facing some losses.

Many Trainers became aware of a new floor guardian with an exceptionally powerful Charmeleon.

For Kalia, these intense combat sessions were highly satisfying, and for Lian, it was even more exhilarating.

Facing high-base stat Pokemon daily, often at advanced levels, significantly accelerated Lian's own growth. In just five days, he leveled up twice.

Additionally, his daily combat ratings remained consistently high, never dropping below 1,500 Combat Points as a minimum reward. Over the course of five days, Lian accumulated at least 7,000 to 8,000 Combat Points.

He used all these points to enhance his Water Resistance, confirming his earlier suspicion - once the resistance reached '1', it could not be further increased.

Resistance has its limits.

Having spent over five thousand Combat Points to reach '1' Water Resistance, Lian now had around two thousand points left, which he decided not to use immediately.

Early morning at the Pokémon Library:

"Kalia, do you like Vulpix?" Knowing that Kalia was heading to the Battle Tower again, Grandma Mana approached her room and asked.

Kalia paused momentarily before nodding. Her original goal was to capture a Water-type Pokémon, but she hadn't encountered any suitable ones yet. Additionally, as she wasn't even a beginner Trainer yet, she hesitated to acquire a third Pokémon without finding the right match.

Upon arriving at the Pokémon Library, Kalia did consider capturing this Vulpix, but since it belonged to Grandma Mana, she couldn't bring herself to suggest it outright. She had always held a special fondness for Fire-type Pokémon, so when Grandma Mana posed the question, Kalia eagerly nodded in agreement.

"Why don't you take Vulpix with you?" Grandma Mana suggested. "Vulpix has been by my side for so long, but I've never seen it be this affectionate towards anyone else. It's clear that Vulpix truly hopes to accompany you."

"Vulpix is very intelligent; it knows I am old and wishes to find a new master."

"But Grandma Mana, what will you do without Vulpix?" Kalia hesitated, concerned. Grandma Mana was indeed lonely, with only Vulpix by her side for many years. Now that Vulpix would leave, if she also moved away from Ruby City, she would be terribly alone.

"I'm already old, don't worry about me." Grandma Mana shook her head, indicating she had grown accustomed to her simple routine of reading books and enjoying the sun each day.

"Young ones should make decisions firmly," Grandma Mana said resolutely, emphasizing her intention for Vulpix to accompany Kalia.

No longer hesitant, Kalia looked at Vulpix beside her and asked, "Vulpix, would you like to stay with me?"

With a gentle cry, Vulpix leaped into Kalia's arms, expressing its choice through affectionate gestures.

"Thank you, Grandma Mana," Kalia expressed her gratitude. Although not particularly strong among Fire-type Pokémon, once evolved into Ninetales, both its strength and potential significantly increased.

Moreover, Vulpix's evolution is relatively straightforward, requiring only a Fire Stone. In other regions, Fire Stones might be expensive and scarce, but Ruby City is different.

Typically, Fire Stones form in areas with high concentrations of fire energy, and Ruby City's volcano provides such conditions. It is also the primary source of Fire Stones among major cities in the Cebast region.

Kalia could directly climb the volcano, and with some luck, she might even find unpolished Fire Stones; however, they usually lie deep within the volcano, which can be extremely dangerous.

In summary, Fire Stones are not uncommon in Ruby City, readily available for purchase at Pokémon stores, making Vulpix's evolution quite manageable.

"Haha, it's about time Vulpix found a new owner." Grandma Mana smiled warmly, as if entrusting her child to Kalia.

"Vulpix, come on inside."

Kalia took out a Poké Ball, aimed it at Vulpix, and pressed the button, enveloping Vulpix in red light.

In the next moment, Vulpix obediently entered the Poké Ball, becoming Kalia's third Pokémon.

After releasing Vulpix again, Kalia gently picked it up and smiled warmly, "From now on, we're partners. Meet Charmeleon and Grovyle as well."

Lian wasn't surprised to see Kalia successfully capture Vulpix; he had noticed over recent days that Vulpix constantly clung to her. Whenever Kalia went to the Battle Tower, Vulpix always wanted to accompany her.

Vulpix has decent potential with its Ability typically being Flame Body, which significantly reduces or even immunizes against Fire-type moves, while also enhancing its Special Attack Attribute.

This Ability is highly advantageous when facing Fire-type Pokémon. Additionally, there's a chance for Vulpix to possess the Drought Ability, causing Sunny Day weather upon entering battle. However, Drought is a hidden Ability, making Vulpix with this trait extremely rare, occurring less than one in a hundred.

By tonight, we should know more, as the system usually records Vulpix's data automatically since it's now Kalia's Pokémon, even if not used in battles yet.

Having captured Vulpix, Kalia bid farewell to Grandma Mana and headed towards the Battle Tower, ready to commence her floor guarding duties for the day.

As Kalia approached the Battle Tower, she noticed a man dressed in black standing near the entrance, seemingly waiting for someone.

When Kalia drew closer, the man's gaze shifted towards her, paused briefly on her face, and then he leisurely walked over.

"Are you Kalia? I'm Axel, a mentor from the Ruby Pokémon Academy," he introduced himself.

Kalia looked at the man before her and nodded, "Yes, I am Kalia. May I ask what brings you here?"

Although he claimed to be from the Ruby Pokémon Academy, there was no way to verify his identity, and truthfully, Kalia had little interest in joining any academy.

"I'm aware of your situation, so let's skip the small talk. Would you like to defeat Tamagawa Naoki and reclaim your position as Gym Leader of Rhine City?" Axel clearly knew about Kalia's circumstances and got straight to the point.

"Yes, but I intend to defeat Tamagawa Naoki with my own strength. As for the Gym Leader title, it holds little interest for me." Kalia began to understand Axel's purpose; he likely wanted her to enroll in the Pokémon Academy. Otherwise, there would be no reason for a mentor from such an institution to personally seek her out.

"Ah, relying on your own strength? You underestimate Tamagawa Naoki too much. You have no idea of his current prowess; he has already achieved mid-level Trainer capabilities, while you haven't even completed the beginner trainer assessment."

"So what? I'll surpass him eventually."

"As you progress, so does he every day. How do you plan to surpass him? Face reality," Axel shook his head.

"What is it that you want from me?"

"I can recommend you for admission to the Pokemon Academy. Your potential is quite impressive, making it worth my investment. At the academy, I can provide ample resources to enhance your abilities. Once you've attained sufficient strength, you could even apply to challenge Tamagawa Naoki and potentially replace him as Gym Leader."

"Sorry, but I'm not interested in attending the Pokemon Academy at this time." Kalia firmly declined, adhering to her own plans. Although the academy's resources might be abundant, there's no such thing as a free lunch. She preferred earning opportunities herself rather than accepting investments from strangers.

"Don't rush into anything. There's an upcoming competition at the academy soon, and I'd like you to participate as an external contestant. This way, you can experience the competitive atmosphere within the academy. Surely, you won't decline this opportunity?" Seeing Kalia's firm stance, Axel decided to approach from a different angle.

He had just reviewed Kalia's recent performance in the Battle Tower, which convinced him of her potential, making it worthwhile for him to invest his time.

"When is it? I'm quite busy lately." Kalia didn't outright refuse, but due to contractual obligations, she couldn't leave the Battle Tower easily—it wasn't entirely up to her decision.

"In one month."
