Chapter 4: 4: Orion "The Hunter"
(A/N: This chapter is extra long, trust me this will not be normal)
Orion stood there ready to be pelted by bullets, but before any of them could reach him, someone jumped in the way. It was the boy in the straw hat, the bullets hit him but instead of doing damage, his skin was stretched by the bullets until they came to a complete stop. His skin retracted and shot the bullets back, one of them grazing Helmeppo's cheek.
Helmeppo slowly brought his shaking hand up to his face, he rubbed his cheek and winced in pain. He looked at his hand and at the blood covering his fingertips. He was dumbfounded not only at how he was hurt, but at how someone was shot and completely fine.
"Y-YOU! YOU HURT ME! I'LL GET MY DADDY AND HE'LL EXECUTE YOU!" Helmeppo was furious. He ran back into the Marine Base with his two bodyguards right behind him.
"Luffy! Are you alright!?" A pink haired boy shouted as he ran toward him.
"Shishishi, I'm fine Koby." Luffy shot a quick thumbs up to Koby and turned toward Orion and Zoro.
"I'm Monkey D Luffy, and I want you to join my pirate crew!" Luffy exclaimed excitedly.
"Pirate crew?" Orion, Zoro, and Rika all questioned in unison.
Orion let out a small giggle. "Pfft, You want to invite the PIRATE HUNTER into a pirate crew?" Orion didn't understand the logic behind that statement.
"Yeah, and not just him, you too!" Luffy's smile only grew wider as he spoke to Orion.
"I'm not joining. I have a dream I need to accomplish and joining you would just end up getting the way." Zoro shut down the idea quickly. He felt that joining a pirate crew would only get in the way of his dream, and he had no reason to think otherwise.
"Hmmm." Luffy closed his eyes, tilted his head, and scratched his chin as if he was thinking about something.
"No thanks, I just don't want to." Orion chimed in as well.
"HMMMM." Luffy's thinking intensified until...."No." He turned to them and said plainly.
"What do you mean 'no'?" Orion and Zoro asked in unison.
"I said no to your no." Luffy said with a straight face as if his logic was perfectly sound. Orion and Zoro sweatdropped at Luffy's thought process (if he had any at all).
Koby spoke up, deciding to throw his opinion into the conversation. "Well...It's not like you can stay here tied up like that Zoro. After everything that happened you can't possibly believe that they'd let you go, right?"
Zoro thought about it shortly then grumbled to himself, Koby was right, if he stayed here they'd just execute him and he'd never accomplish his dream.
"Fine. Get me out of here, and I'll think about it. My swords are in the marine base, get them for me." Zoro said and nodded in the direction of the base.
"Alright!" Before anyone could say anything else, Luffy was already running toward the Marine Base.
---Atop the Marine Base---
A scary looking man stood with a satisfied smile...well, as much a smile as one could muster when their bottom jaw was literally a metal plate. He stared in satisfaction as he watched his men work to lift a giant stone statue of him.
His men were tired, their muscles aching from the strenuous work, but they didn't dare ask for a break. They knew better after they saw what happened to the last guy that asked for one.
*BAAM!* The doors of the roof slammed open.
"DADDY HELP!!" Helmeppo shouted from the doorway. He ran toward his father, his two escorts right behind him.
The scary man's smile faded instantly, he sighed as he asked. "What is it, boy?"
"Someone hit me! He hit me! The great Helmeppo!" Helmeppo shouted in anger.
".....Oh yeah?" Morgan slowly turned to face Helmeppo. He suddenly hit Helmeppo in the face with the back end of his axe-hand, knocking him over.
Helmeppo's eyes widened and he gripped his hurt cheek, he was extremely confused.
"D-daddy, why did you hit me? You've never hit me before..."
Morgan sighed a second time. "Do you know why I've never hit you?" He slowly walked closer to Helmeppo.
"B-because...I'm so g-great?" Helmeppo said nervously.
"Hahaha! Ridiculous!" Morgan chuckled. He then lifted Helmeppo by the collar of his shirt.
"I'm the only great one around here." He scowled and threw Helmeppo back to the ground.
"The reason I've never hit you is because....YOU'RE A FOOL WHO'S NOT EVEN WORTH THE EFFORT TO HIT!" Morgan sighed a third time and walked away from Helmeppo.
*BOOM!*
Morgan shot his head toward where the sound came from, hoping that it wasn't what he thought it was. As soon as he could process what he saw, he realized his worst nightmare came true. His statue was split in half and standing next to it was someone he didn't recognize, he was a brat in a straw hat....likely the culprit of this incident.
"EXECUTE HIM NOW!" Morgan roared in anger as he ran toward his broken statue. He was too angry to see or hear anything else at the moment.
Helmeppo shot up off the ground when he saw Luffy. "Daddy! It was him, he's the one who hit me!"
Luffy turned his head in response to Helmeppo's shout. "Hey, It's you! Come with me!" Luffy exclaimed with a grin, and before anyone could react he was already gone into the Marine Base dragging Helmeppo by his arm.
---Orion & Zoro---
"Well...he's gone." Orion stared at Luffy disappear into the distance.
Orion turned toward Rika who's hands were shaking as she breathed heavily. He sighed to himself as he walked over to her. Orion put a hand on her head.
"Koby, can you take Rika back to town." Both Koby and Rika turned their heads to Orion.
"B-but, I don't want to go back! I can't yet!" Rika exclaimed as she looked up at Orion, seeming to have finally broken out of her trance.
"You will go back." Orion said sternly, his smile not on his face anymore. "Letting them aim guns at you was already bad enough. It's only gonna get worse from here and quite frankly....you'd only be a liability." He said as he removed his hand from Rika's head. "So please, take her back to town Koby." Orion's smile reappeared on his face as he shot a thumbs up toward Koby.
"R-right." Koby nodded and walked Rika back to town. Rika's feelings were hurt, but deep down she knew he was right so she didn't protest.
"Why'd you have the kid walk her back? She could've went on her own." Zoro asked as soon as Rika and Koby were out of earshot.
Orion eyes slightly widened and he laughed. "Haha! You catch on fast. No offense to Koby, but he looks a little weak. He'd honestly just get in the way if he were here."
"But enough of that. Lets cut you loose." Orion grinned and walked behind Zoro. A few seconds later he was free. Zoro was intrigued by how Orion cut away the ropes with seemingly nothing in his hands, but he disregarded the thought and chalked it up to him just having a knife in his pocket.
"HANDS UP! DON'T MOVE OR YOU DIE!" Orion and Zoro quickly turned and in front of them stood dozens of marines with rifles aimed at them, and behind them stood a giant of a man with an axe head for a hand.
Zoro sweatdropped nervously at the sight. "I hope that guy comes back with my swords soon..." He said and let out a nervous giggle.
Orion whispered under his breath to the slightly uneasy Zoro. "Hey Zoro, you see that big guy in the back. I think he might be the leader." He pointed to Morgan who menacingly scowled at them from behind his soldiers.
"Oh really, I couldn't tell!" Zoro exclaimed sarcastically. He sighed "That's not important right now! Do you have any way to deal with them? I can hold my own but I can't do much without my swords." Zoro asked as he stared down the muzzles of the rifles pointed at them.
Morgan was furious with everything going on. "So you decided to cause trouble with that home wrecker that destroyed my statue! I'm assuming you joined them as well Roronoa?" Morgan moved his men to the side and walked out in front of them. When he looked at Orion his eyebrows raised slightly. 'That arm sleeve, that sash...those eyes.' He thought to himself. He hurriedly dug in his inner coat pocket and pulled out a sheet of paper. He looked at it, then back at Orion and a devious smirk grew on his face.
"Hahaha! Maybe today isn't such a bad day after all." Morgan said as he showed the paper to Zoro and Orion. "I knew you looked familiar. The man that single handedly wiped out the East Blue's 16th branch marine base and killed every single marine there. With a thirty-five million berry bounty on your head. The man with the highest bounty in the East Blue.....Orion 'The Hunter'."
Everyone's eyes grew wider and wider the longer Morgan spoke. Orion just grinned and laughed. "Cool! I have the highest bounty in the East Blue!" He recited excitedly. Zoro was at first astonished by what was said, but then he just sighed and laughed. His previously asked question was answered at this moment, Orion most likely did have a way to get them out of this situation.
"I'll cash in your bounty, then I'll be promoted and I'll be the greatest marine in the East Blue!" Morgan shouted. He raised his axe-hand into the air. "MARINES!" He shouted and all the Marines readied their rifles. "OPEN FI-" *CRASH* Morgan was interrupted by the loud crash of breaking glass and soon after Luffy landed in front of them.
"I made it!" He shouted as he shot his arms in the air triumphantly. Morgan thought he was past his rage, but as soon as he saw that straw hat wearing gremlin he grew furious. "OPEN FIRE!" Morgan shouted enraged. The marines flinched at his sudden shout, but immediately listened.
In response, Orion quickly shot his right hand forward and a thick viscous green liquid shot out of his hand and formed a dome around the trio. The bullets continuously pelted the dome, but none got through, every bullet getting stuck in the liquid barrier.
Luffy's eyes shined in excitement as he looked at the dome. "You ate a devil fruit too?!" He exclaimed as he jumped around Orion. Orion ignored Luffy and once the rain of bullets was over, the dome was sucked back into his hand and he dropped the bullets on the ground.
"So you're one of the eaters of those 'mythical' devil fruits. Drop your guns men, they're useless against them." Morgan said as he walked forward. "Draw your blades!" Morgan shouted and dashed forward. He raised his axe-hand and slammed it down on Orion, but he hardened his arm and blocked the hit.
The marines followed Morgan's example and ran toward the trio. Zoro quickly grabbed his swords from Luffy's back. "Oh right. I didn't know which sword was yours, so I just grabbed them all." Luffy said with a smile as he scratched the back of his head. "Don't worry about it, they're all mine. I use the three-sword style." Zoro said as he strapped his katana's to his hip. As the marines grew closer, Zoro drew his swords and dashed forward, blocking them from coming any closer. "Leave the small fry to us. You take out the big guy.....captain." Zoro said with a smirk as he cut through the marines in front of him.
Orion pushed Morgan back and withdrew from him. "You hear that Morgan, if you wanna get to me, you gotta get through him! He's all yours Luffy!" Orion exclaimed as he pushed Luffy toward Morgan.
"Alright then, I hope the rest of you don't disappoint!" Orion exclaimed as a group of marines surrounded him. The marines rushed forward, all their blades piercing him simultaneously. One marine sneered as he felt that familiar warm liquid drip from Orion's body and onto his hands. "Is that all? The highest bounty in the East Blue and you die like that."
".....But, I'm not dead." Orion said with a smile, causing the marines to flinch and back away leaving their swords in him. "Well, you guys have my matter on you, so you already lost this fight." Orion smirked and pointed at their hands. The marines looked at him questioningly then down at their hands. Their eyes widened in shock, the liquid on their hands wasn't blood, it was some weird green liquid. Orion clenched his fist and the liquid expanded, swallowing them. They tried to claw and grab at it, but they couldn't do anything, and slowly but surely they all fell unconscious.
"That was fast. You marines sure are bad at your jobs." Orion giggled to himself as he looked down at the unconscious marines around him.
"AHHH! JUST DIE ALREADY YOU STRAW HAT BRAT!" Morgan's shout caught the attention of everyone on the battlefield. Morgan was swinging his axe-hand wildly, trying to cut Luffy down, but instead of getting hit, Luffy nimbly dodged around Morgan's axe laughing like it was all a game. The whole situation just made Morgan more furious. Zoro also watched the situation as he finished dispatching his foes and soon enough the battle was over. Morgan slammed his axe-hand downward, but Luffy dodged to the side and shot his hand backward. "GUM-GUM BULLET!" Luffy shouted as his hand retracted and shot forward into Morgan's gut. The impact made his eyes roll back and left his mouth agape as he fell over unconscious.
(A/N: In case you didn't know, Pistol and Bullet are two different attacks not a translation difference between dub and sub. Pistol is just a straight punch with stretching. Bullet is basically bazooka with one hand also with a fist instead of a palm.)
"Shishishishi!" Luffy laughed as he stood over Morgan. All the marines eyes were wide as they saw their captain laying unconscious....."HOORAH! WE'RE FREE!" The marines shouted as they threw their weapons away. They smiled, danced, and celebrated at the defeat of their captain.
"Y'know, they seem strangely happy that we beat up their captain." Orion said as he tilted his head questioningly. "Well, maybe they're just weird. Let's get out of here." Luffy said as he wiped the dust off himself and left the marine base, Orion and Zoro weren't far behind him.
As the trio walked and talked back to town they decided to stop by the Food Foo to tell Rika and Koby about what happened, but mainly because Zoro hadn't eaten for weeks and Luffy just wanted to eat.
"Are you serious! You really took down Captain Morgan!" Rika and Koby shouted in surprise. "I mean...I knew you could do it, but you actually did it!" Koby exclaimed excitedly.
"Well, what are we gonna do now?" Zoro said as he sat down his third bowl of seafood rice. "You said you were gonna make a pirate crew. So who's all part of it?" Zoro asked as he leaned back in his chair. "Yeah, a pirate crew fit for the King of the pirates!" Luffy said with a wide smile. "And the crew...you, me, and him." Luffy said as he pointed around the table at Zoro, himself, and Orion respectively. ".....We're an entire pirate crew?" Zoro asked no one in particular, he was just trying to see if he understood Luffy correctly. "We...We at least have a ship, right?" Zoro asked as he gulped nervously. "Yeah we do." Luffy said nonchalantly and pointed out the window toward the docks. Zoro looked out and saw a dog pissing on a lone dinghy in the harbor. Zoro wasn't surprised nor disappointed, he expected it.
"Now, hold on a second!" Orion exclaimed as he also looked out the window. "We're NOT riding in that." He crossed his arms in an X shape. "We're riding in THAT." He pointed over toward a small sloop, reminiscent of the boat the Straw Hats owned before the Going Merry. Zoro's eyes widened as he saw the ship, he was unimaginably happy that he didn't have to ride in a crowded dinghy. "OOOOOH! Nice boat!" Luffy's ever present smile grew wider as he looked at their ship.
"So where do you guys plan to go?" Koby asked.
Luffy quickly turned his head toward Koby, he looked like he was hoping someone would ask him that question. "The Grand Line!" Luffy exclaimed as he shot his arms upward excitedly. Koby's eyes widened greatly when he heard that. "YOU WANT TO GO TO THE GRAND LINE?! YOU CAN'T, IT'S TOO DANGEROUS!" Koby shouted in a panic and jumped out of his seat. Rika who's never heard of such a place tilted her head curiously. "What's the Grand Line? And why are you so scared of it?" Rika asked. Koby gulped nervously and answered. "The Grand Line...it's called the pirate graveyard. It's called by that name because any pirate that enters never comes back." Rika's eyes widened as she listened to Koby, but Orion just sighed. "It doesn't matter though, does it? People live in the Grand Line, is it really as dangerous as us East Blue people make it sound?" Zoro just silently nodded his head in agreement.
"I guess, maybe you're right." Koby heaved a sigh of relief.
At that moment a few marines entered the building. "We heard you fellas are pirates. Is that true?" A marine who Orion assumed to be the Lieutenant stepped forward and asked. Luffy turned in his seat. "Yup, and I just got my first crewmates!" Luffy exclaimed with a wide grin. The Lieutenant rubbed the rim of his hat and sighed. "Is that so...Well I'm sorry, but we're gonna have to ask you to leave this island." All the townspeople who heard the commotion stood and protested, but Luffy shut it down before it could really get started. "We're truly thankful for your help, but now that we know you're pirates. As marines we can't let you stay here." The Lieutenant gripped his hat and lowered it over his eyes, seemingly disgraced at having to kick their saviors out. Luffy just nodded his head and quietly left with Zoro and Orion right behind. The trio climbed into Orion's boat and before they sailed away, the Marines and Koby saluted them. The marines thanked them for their hand in taking down Morgan, while Koby thanked Luffy for taking him here but decided not to say any more, lest the marines think Koby was a pirate spy or something. The trio smiled gently at the spectacle as they sailed off into the sea.
