One Piece: My code name is Green Bull

Chapter 96: Negotiating with a Tiger

"Kid, don't try to fool us. The Marines are part of the World Government's military. How could they possibly know the secrets of the Final Island? You're just making things up to save your life, aren't you?"

Roger's eyes were filled with suspicion.

If anyone else had said this, he might have believed them.

But Jon was a Marine.

And Marines and pirates were natural enemies.

There was no way the Marines would willingly share the secret of the Final Island with a pirate like him.

Jon replied calmly.

"My life is already in your hands—do I really have room to bargain? Yes, I'm a Marine, but I'm not some government lapdog. Right now, my priority is staying alive. Everything else… doesn't matter to me."

Roger smirked.

"If your Marine superiors heard that, your career would be over."

He had been watching Jon closely and could tell that he wasn't lying.

"Let's skip the nonsense, Captain Roger. Give me a straight answer. Will you accept my offer? If you let me go, I'll tell you everything I know. I guarantee you won't be disappointed."

Jon was willing to bet on this negotiation because he understood Roger's nature.

Roger wasn't a saint, but he also wasn't a ruthless butcher.

He had a sense of honor, unlike most pirates.

If there was any pirate he could trust to keep their word, it would be Gol D. Roger.

Of course, Jon had no other choice—he had to gamble on it.

Roger didn't answer immediately.

Instead, he turned to Rayleigh.

"Rayleigh, what do you think?"

Rayleigh studied Jon for a moment before replying.

"This kid is too confident. I think he really knows something. The Final Island has always been your dream—your greatest pursuit. Whether this Marine lives or dies doesn't matter to us. But if we can trade his life for the information we need… that's a good deal."

Unlike most pirates, Roger and Rayleigh weren't bloodthirsty killers.

Even when it came to Marines, they usually avoided unnecessary slaughter.

When Roger brought Jon onto the ship, it was mostly out of curiosity—he never seriously planned to kill him.

Rayleigh was even less like a pirate than Roger.

He had been tricked into piracy by Roger in the first place.

He respected Roger's dream and wanted to help him achieve it.

Now that Roger was asking for his opinion, he naturally prioritized helping him reach the Final Island.

Roger nodded.

He had no deep hatred for the Marines.

All he wanted was to discover the truth of the world.

If Jon really had valuable information, then this was a golden opportunity.

However, Roger still had one major doubt.

"How much of what you're saying is actually true?"

He turned to Jon.

"Josh, come with me."

Roger didn't want Jon revealing this information in front of everyone.

So he took him into his private quarters, leaving them alone.

"Alright, there's no one else here—just you and me. Tell me everything you know. If I find your information useful, I promise you, I won't lay a finger on you."

Jon frowned.

"And I'm supposed to just trust your promise?"

Roger grinned.

"I don't make promises often, but when I do, I always keep them. Besides… you don't have much of a choice, do you?"

Jon sighed.

"Fair point."

"So?"

"So, I'll tell you."

"I want to hear everything."

"I don't know much, but what I do know will be worth your time."

"I'll decide whether it's worth my time. Start talking."

Jon took a deep breath, organizing his thoughts.

"I've heard about you, Captain Roger. Vice Admiral Garp told me about you. I know that you've been searching for the Final Island. You must have already been to Lodestar Island, but you also know that Lodestar Island is NOT the Final Island."

Roger remained silent.

Of course, he had been to Lodestar Island.

At first, he thought it was the end of the journey—only to discover it wasn't.

However, that island had provided him with many valuable clues.

Yet, despite all the knowledge he had gained, he was still unable to find the Final Island.

That's why, when Jon mentioned it so casually, Roger immediately took him seriously.

"You even know about Lodestar Island… looks like you really do know some secrets. I don't care how you found out—I just want the information."

Jon nodded.

"To reach the Final Island, you need four markers. Those markers are the Road Poneglyphs."

Roger's eyes narrowed.

He wasn't surprised—he already knew about the Poneglyphs.

But he still didn't know the full details about the Road Poneglyphs.

"Go on."

"There are four Road Poneglyphs. These stones were created centuries ago, and each one contains a piece of the map. If you gather all four, you can pinpoint the location of the Final Island. Without them, it's impossible to find it."

Roger's eyes gleamed with excitement.

Many of the mysteries that had bothered him for years were suddenly becoming clear.

"And?"

"That's all."

Roger's face immediately darkened.

"Bullshit. You clearly know more than that. If that's all you've got, why should I let you live?"

Jon's expression turned cold.

"Are you breaking your promise, Captain Roger?"

His guard was already up.

Roger was still a pirate.

Even if he was destined to become the Pirate King, he was still someone who would sacrifice anything for his goal.

If he decided that Jon's life wasn't worth it, he wouldn't hesitate to kill him.

Roger smirked.

"I'm not breaking my promise. But all you've told me so far is basic information—it's helpful, but it's not enough. If you can tell me where to find the Road Poneglyphs, then I'll let you go."

Jon scoffed.

"You think too highly of me, Captain Roger. If I knew the locations of the Road Poneglyphs, do you think I wouldn't have gone after them myself? I don't know exactly what's on the Final Island, but I know it must contain unimaginable wealth. If I had known their locations earlier, I wouldn't be telling you—I'd be there myself."

Roger grinned.

"Maybe. Or maybe you do know their locations, but you just can't reach them—so now you're using that information to negotiate with me. Don't bother denying it—I can read it on your face."

Jon's expression shifted slightly, then he sighed.

After a brief pause, he said:

"I do know the location of one of the Road Poneglyphs. But I still don't trust you."

Roger's heart pounded with excitement.

He had been right.

"Josh, if you tell me, I swear—I won't harm you, and I'll let you leave safely."

Jon snorted.

"A pirate's promise? How reliable."

Roger laughed.

"Maybe not all pirates—but I always keep my word."

Jon didn't believe him, but he had no choice.

He needed to keep Roger interested.

"The Big Mom Pirates—one of the Road Poneglyphs is in the hands of Charlotte Linlin."

Roger's eyes widened in shock.
