Chapter 90: A Few Years Later, Red Fire Becomes the Leader!
"How do you feel?"
Seeing that Nagato had been silent for a while, Uchiha Yi asked.
Although Sage Chakra has healing properties, there's a saying: The weak cannot handle potent remedies.
Yi wasn't sure if the "dosage" was right, so it was better to check with the person receiving the treatment.
"No problem at all!"
Nagato responded cheerfully, feeling better than he had in years.
"Then I'll continue channeling more Sage Chakra into you."
"While absorbing it, try to understand its properties—ideally, learn to control it."
"Konan-sensei, you too. This Sage Chakra not only prolongs life but also has beauty-enhancing effects like rejuvenation and anti-aging. It's incredible!"
Yi encouraged them both, explaining the benefits of Sage Chakra.
Hearing this, both Nagato and Konan's eyes lit up.
Yi chuckled to himself at their excitement but refrained from dampening their spirits with pessimism. In truth, mastering this Sage Chakra would likely be far more challenging than learning the traditional techniques from the Three Great Sage Lands.
Still, it was worth letting them try first. If Sage Chakra couldn't fully resolve Nagato's health issues, Yi would consider implanting White Zetsu cells as a last resort.
For the next few days, Yi visited daily to provide additional Sage Chakra to both Nagato and Konan. This constant infusion not only bolstered Nagato's recovery but also gave them a chance to familiarize themselves with its unique properties.
As expected, Nagato's health steadily improved under the influence of Sage Chakra, though neither he nor Konan showed any signs of mastering it.
Meanwhile, Tobi—or rather, Obito—fully assumed his duties as Akatsuki's deputy leader. After being elevated to this position by Nagato, Obito took on most of the organization's operational responsibilities, leaving only the Rain Village under Nagato's direct management.
Over time, this division of roles ingrained the perception among Akatsuki members that Tobi was their de facto leader.
For Yi, this transition was exactly what he had hoped to see.
Due to the delay in the Three-Tails' revival, the Akatsuki remained dormant, biding its time. For the next few years, the ninja world experienced an unprecedented period of peace.
Conflicts between the major villages were reduced to minor skirmishes, often settled through words rather than violence.
This prolonged peace left Yi feeling somewhat out of place. At times, he even doubted whether he was still in the same chaotic ninja world he had initially entered.
When did these hostile ninja factions start acting so polite and civil?
As a "soul reaper," Yi found himself nearly out of work. Fortunately, thanks to Kakuzu's extensive knowledge of bounty stations, Yi was able to secure occasional soul rewards, just enough to sustain his operations.
Later, Yi discovered that the reason for this peace stemmed from the reestablishment of the Leaf Village.
With the New Leaf Village stabilizing, other major villages couldn't help but feel curious about the circumstances surrounding the old village's destruction.
This curiosity prompted the Fourth Raikage of the Hidden Cloud to organize a Five Kage Summit, inviting all major leaders to discuss matters of great importance to the ninja world.
The attendees convened as scheduled, and though the exact details of their discussions remained unclear, it was evident from rumors that much of the focus was on Akatsuki's mysterious "Red Fire."
"Red Fire" was, of course, Yi's alias, Red Flame. While Obito and Black Zetsu were undoubtedly aware of this connection, they refrained from exposing him.
Doing so would only draw global attention to the Akatsuki, potentially jeopardizing their plans. Black Zetsu, being the cautious manipulator he was, would never make such a foolish move.
Even Itachi, who might have pieced things together, saw no reason to act. As long as his brother Sasuke remained unharmed, he had no intention of provoking Yi.
Meanwhile, loyalists like Konan, Nagato, Sasori, Kakuzu, and Zabuza posed no threat to Yi's identity. Others, like Hidan and Deidara, were too disinterested to care, while Kisame's straightforward nature made him unlikely to uncover the truth without being told directly.
In essence, within the Akatsuki, the identities of "Red Fire" and "Ah hoe" were firmly separated, ensuring Yi's dual persona remained intact.
"Alas, how fleeting is loyalty."
With Obito now firmly established as the deputy leader, Black Zetsu shifted his focus back to him, gradually distancing himself from Yi. This change amused Yi, who couldn't help but reflect on how quickly alliances shifted in the ninja world.
Meanwhile, the Rain Village continued its transformation. Thanks to Yi's mastery of his Devil Fruit powers, he had gained precise control over the country's weather.
When Yi wished for sunny skies, the perpetual rain clouds that had defined the region would part, offering the villagers much-needed relief. Only when Yi deactivated his power would the rain return.
Under these conditions, the Rain Village began to flourish. The second significant change came with its shift from isolation to openness, attracting merchants and travelers from all over the ninja world.
In just a few years, this influx of trade and tourism brought unprecedented prosperity to the Rain Village, earning it a reputation as a burgeoning steel metropolis.
Of course, this prosperity also attracted its fair share of greedy opportunists. But with Yi's army of Transformer-like constructs, each possessing the strength of an elite ninja, such threats were swiftly neutralized.
When necessary, Yi was more than willing to escalate matters, ensuring that even the major villages thought twice before challenging the Rain Village's newfound power.
One day, Nagato, still using his Pain persona, convened another Akatsuki meeting.
"Pain-sama, if you don't show up more often, I might forget you're actually the leader around here!" Kakuzu joked as the group gathered.
"Haha! Pain-sama, teach Kakuzu a lesson! He's been getting too bold lately—he even wants to kill me!" Hidan chimed in, adding fuel to the fire.
"What are you babbling about?" Kakuzu snapped, rolling up his sleeves as if ready to brawl.
"Enough, both of you!" Deidara interjected, annoyed that their antics were interrupting his creative thoughts.
"Silence."
"Now, I have an important announcement to make. As of today, I officially appoint Tobi as the leader of the Akatsuki."
With these words, Pain relinquished his position, entrusting the organization to Obito.
Surprisingly, the group reacted with calm acceptance, as if they had long anticipated this outcome.
