Chapter 6: Everything Is Ready
Yamamoto Ryusei was heading out to meet Senju Miyuki for ninjutsu training. Before leaving, he turned to Yamashita Shou and Komiya Yuki.
"Yuki, Shou, come to my house for dinner tonight," he said. "Miyuki-sensei, the one teaching me ninjutsu, will also be there. It's a good chance for you to make a good impression."
"Okay, thanks, Ryusei," Komiya Yuki said, bowing slightly in gratitude.
Yamashita Shou, on the other hand, clung to Ryusei's leg dramatically. "You're too kind to me, Ryusei-sama! I don't know how to repay you!"
Ryusei stepped back with an exasperated expression. "Shou, can you be more composed? You need to leave a good impression this time. Also, Miyuki-sensei likes cute things, so you might want to dress the part."
"Cute?" Shou blinked, puzzled. "That's not really my style. I wouldn't even know where to start."
Yuki chimed in confidently, "You just need to clean up and dress neatly. Leave the 'cute' part to us girls!"
When Ryusei arrived at the training ground, Senju Miyuki was nowhere to be seen. Left with some time, he practiced his kunai throwing techniques and hand seals to keep himself busy.
"You're really dedicated, Ryusei-kun," came a familiar voice. Senju Miyuki had arrived silently, standing behind him with her arms crossed.
Ryusei feigned annoyance. "Miyuki-sensei, you're finally here! You're late, you know."
Miyuki twirled a lock of her hair casually. "A girl needs time to get ready. How else can she stand out if she doesn't look her best?"
Ryusei sighed, thinking it was unnecessary since they'd just get dirty training anyway.
"Don't sulk," Miyuki said with a smile. "Today, we'll focus on the Three Basic Jutsu: Transformation, Substitution, and Clone techniques. These are the foundation of all ninjutsu."
Under Miyuki's guidance, Ryusei spent the next two hours training intensely. By the end of the session, he had mastered the techniques to a proficient level—at least enough not to produce a laughable clone like Naruto's infamous attempts.
"Sister Miyuki," Ryusei asked, looking expectant, "does this make me a genius? I learned it so quickly!"
Miyuki chuckled. "Genius? You're confident, I'll give you that. True geniuses master it on their first try. But you're doing well—better than average."
Though slightly deflated, Ryusei resolved to practice harder. Being a civilian-born ninja, he knew the odds were stacked against him. The academy's focus on basics often left students like him at a disadvantage, with advanced ninjutsu being a privilege reserved for those with connections or clan ties.
After the session, Miyuki knelt down to meet his gaze. "Don't let it bother you. Hard work can surpass talent. That's enough for today. I'll be on a supply mission tomorrow, so practice on your own until I return."
"Yes, Miyuki-sensei. My parents invited you to dinner tonight. Please come; our food is amazing!"
"Really?" Her eyes lit up. "I'll go home and change first. You head back." She vanished in a swirl of leaves, leaving Ryusei to wonder just how much of a foodie she was
At Ryusei's house, Yamashita Shou and Komiya Yuki had already arrived.
Shou was dressed casually in a t-shirt and shorts, exuding a lively energy. Yuki, however, had chosen a white kimono adorned with delicate pink sakura patterns. Her golden hair was tied up neatly, giving her a cute and refined appearance.
After freshening up, Ryusei joined them and noticed they were engrossed in books.
"What are you reading?" he asked.
Shou held up a book. "It's about minerals. My teacher lent it to me."
Ryusei nodded. "If I'm your teacher now, you should start calling me 'Brother Ryusei.'"
"Yes, Brother Ryusei," Shou said playfully.
Yuki looked up, sighing. "I'm studying herbal medicine, but it's so complicated!"
"There's no such thing as impossible when learning," Ryusei encouraged. "If it's hard, just take it slow."
A knock at the door interrupted them. Ryusei opened it to find Miyuki standing there, looking stunning in a blue dress and holding a box of snacks.
"Miyuki-sensei, you look beautiful tonight. Please come in!"
"You've got a way with words," she said, smiling as she stepped inside. "Here, this is for you."
After introducing her to Shou and Yuki, Ryusei offered some biscuits while waiting for dinner to be served. Miyuki's eyes lit up when she saw Yuki.
"You're so cute!" she exclaimed, hugging Yuki tightly like a plush toy.
When dinner was served, the table was laden with dishes like chicken stewed with mushrooms, braised fish, Mapo tofu, and steamed dumplings. Miyuki's eyes sparkled as she took in the spread.
"These dishes look amazing!" she said, her nose twitching at the aromas.
The group dug in eagerly, the room filled with the sounds of enjoyment and praise.
"This food is incredible!" Miyuki declared after finishing her meal. "The Mapo tofu was especially delicious. At first, I wasn't sure about the spice, but it grew on me!"
Shou and Yuki chimed in, praising their favorite dishes.
Miyuki then slumped dramatically. "But tomorrow, I'll be stuck eating ration pills on my mission. Life is so unfair."
Ryusei's mother, Nami, chuckled from the kitchen. "I can pack some seasoning for you. That way, you can at least grill something tasty in the wild."
Miyuki jumped up to hug her. "Really? Thank you so much, Sister Nami!"
Ryusei teased, "Miyuki-sensei, if you call her sister, doesn't that make you my aunt?"
"Absolutely not!" Miyuki protested. "Sister Nami is way too young and pretty for that. Let's just keep things simple."
As the evening wound down, Ryusei brought up an idea. "Miyuki-sensei, do you think we could open a restaurant? With food this good, it would definitely succeed."
Miyuki's eyes sparkled. "You'd make a fortune! If you do, I'd eat there every day."
Ryusei grinned. "How about a partnership? The Senju Clan could invest, and we'd handle the recipes."
Miyuki looked thoughtful. "It's a good idea, but you'd need the approval of Hashirama-sama or Tobirama-sama for something like that."
"That's fine," Ryusei said confidently. "If I cook something incredible, they won't be able to say no."
"What dish are you thinking of?" Miyuki asked, leaning in curiously.
"Buddha Jumps Over the Wall," Ryusei said slowly. "It's even better than Mapo tofu."
Miyuki's expression lit up. "If it's that good, you've got a deal. Just make sure I get to eat whatever I want!"
"Deal," Ryusei agreed with a sly smile.
