Chapter 18: Yamashita Shuang's Armor
Yamamoto Ryuusei was training intensively in the forest. His main focus was Taijutsu, but he had deployed several shadow clones to focus on other aspects of his development. One clone worked on mastering wind chakra nature transformation, another on fire chakra nature transformation, and a third on honing his chakra control.
Among the ninjutsu Ryuusei had been studying were five C-rank techniques provided by Uchiha Madara: Fire Release: Great Fireball Jutsu, Water Release: Water Whip, Earth Release: Earth Flow Wall, Wind Release: Great Breakthrough, and Lightning Release: Lightning Step. However, before mastering these jutsu, he first needed to perfect the nature transformations for each chakra type. Despite his innate talent with three chakra natures, these transformations were anything but simple.
At his current level, Ryuusei could maintain five shadow clones simultaneously. He allocated them efficiently: one clone took care of domestic tasks, another attended classes at the Academy, and the remaining three focused on rigorous training.
Recently, Ryuusei had been pondering an ambitious idea. Inspired by his experiments with chakra nature transformation, he theorized a way to merge chakra control with concepts resembling Armament Haki from myths he'd read. Chakra, being a blend of physical and spiritual energy, could theoretically be molded to achieve effects beyond traditional techniques.
Chakra transformations were often used to enhance attack range or add elemental power to jutsu. This inspired Ryuusei to push boundaries—he wanted to incorporate chakra into his Taijutsu in new and groundbreaking ways. If successful, this could lead to techniques rivaling the legendary Armament Haki, with four potential variations.
Hardening, by reinforcing the body to increase durability and striking power.
Imbuing, by coating weapons with chakra to enhance their effectiveness.
External Release, projecting chakra outward for ranged attacks or barriers.
Internal Destruction, by penetrating an enemy's defenses to damage them internally.
While chakra already allowed for some of these applications—such as Chakra Scalpel and Rasengan—their execution required extraordinary control. Ryuusei theorized that developing a chakra-hardening technique would bring his vision of a ninja equivalent to Armament Haki closer to reality.
Months passed as Ryuusei dedicated himself to mastering his craft. His Taijutsu had reached the level where he could perform techniques akin to Leaf Hurricane, and his chakra nature transformations for wind, fire, and earth were complete. His current focus was on refining his water and lightning transformations, as well as experimenting with chakra-hardening techniques.
Under the mentorship of Senju Hashirama and Uchiha Madara, Ryuusei's progress with ninjutsu also advanced significantly. He successfully mastered the Fire Release: Great Fireball Jutsu, Earth Release: Earth Flow Wall, and Wind Release: Great Breakthrough. However, the growing rift between Hashirama and Madara became increasingly apparent, their disagreements escalating into frequent arguments. Ryuusei suspected that Madara might leave the village soon, though he dared not voice his thoughts.
On the day of the final test before summer break, Ryuusei chose to attend in person instead of sending a shadow clone, knowing the challenge required his full effort. After the test, students gathered in the Academy's courtyard, chatting excitedly about their vacation plans.
Komiya Yuki, a classmate with a cheerful demeanor, approached Ryuusei shyly. "Brother Ryuusei, my birthday is the day after tomorrow. Will you come?"
Ryuusei smiled warmly. "Of course, Yuki. I'll even bring Liu Angxing to prepare the food for your party."
Yuki's face lit up. "Thank you so much! I've invited about ten or twenty classmates—it'll be so much fun."
Though popular among her peers, Yuki's bond with Ryuusei often drew envy. His role as a protégé of the Hokage and his association with legendary figures like Hashirama and Madara made him the target of jealousy among their classmates. Yet, two individuals stood by him unwaveringly: Uchiha Kagami and Sarutobi Hiruzen.
As the trio chatted, a commotion near the school gates caught their attention. The crowd of students seemed to be admiring something extraordinary.
Pushing through the crowd, Ryuusei caught sight of a flamboyant outfit—two feathered adornments towering above it. His heart sank. Could it be…?
Sure enough, it was Yamashita Shou, proudly showing off an outfit inspired by Sun Wukong, a legendary figure from ancient texts. Ryuusei recognized the design immediately—it was based on sketches he had shared with Yamashita as a personal project.
"I had this made from a drawing by a great artist!" Shou declared confidently, though he quickly faltered under Ryuusei's sharp gaze. Remembering Ryuusei's warning to keep his involvement a secret, Shou hastily added, "I mean, uh, someone I know designed it."
Sarutobi Hiruzen, ever the skeptic, crossed his arms. "It looks cool, but there's no way that's authentic."
The argument quickly turned into playful banter among classmates, with some expressing admiration for the craftsmanship and others teasing Shou about his boastful nature.
As the day wound down, Ryuusei couldn't help but notice the shifting dynamics in his relationships. While bonds like those with Kagami and Hiruzen remained strong, the shadows of jealousy and ambition loomed large among his peers. With the tensions between Hashirama and Madara threatening to reshape the very foundation of Konoha, Ryuusei knew his journey was only beginning.
