Chapter 17: Being Followed
Next, it was Yamamoto Ryusei's turn. "Hello, everyone. My name is Yamamoto Ryusei. What I like most is training, and what I hate most is being unable to train. My dream is to become the strongest ninja in the world."
What an arrogant dream! The other students' eyes immediately sharpened with a mix of curiosity and skepticism.
After Ryusei stepped down, it was Yamashita Shuang's turn. "Hello, everyone. My name is Yamashita Shuang. My favorite hero is Sun Wukong, and what I hate the most is my mother's lectures. My dream is to become a Monkey King of the ninja world."
Komiya Yuki slowly walked to the podium, her posture refined. "Hello, everyone. My name is Komiya Yuki. What I like most is beautiful clothing, and what I hate most are vulgar people. My dream is to become a kunoichi as graceful and powerful as Uzumaki Mito." She cast a sidelong glance at Yamashita Shuang as if teasing him.
The last student to take the stage was a black-haired boy with striking features that rivaled Uchiha Kage's. "Hello, everyone. My name is Shimura Danzo. My favorite food is ramen, and I hate fish. My dream is to become Hokage."
Wait—Shimura Danzo? The class buzzed at the audacity of the boy who would one day become infamous as Konoha's shadowy Nabekage. Few could imagine the cunning and ruthless elder had once been such a handsome, ambitious youth. The glimmering eyes of the girls around him said it all.
"Alright," their teacher, Nara Shikamoto, said, stepping to the front. "Now that introductions are over, let's start the lesson."
"Sensei," Ryusei raised his hand, "I need to use the restroom."
Shikamoto sighed and pointed to the door. "Fine, just go."
Ryusei bolted out of the classroom, but instead of heading to the restroom, he created a shadow clone to attend class in his place. He then used the Transformation Jutsu to disguise himself as an adult and slipped out of the academy unnoticed.
Outside the village bookstore, Konoha's three young giants—Senju Hashirama, Senju Tobirama, and Uchiha Madara—were crouched on a rooftop, watching intently.
A man in his thirties with a scarred cheek entered the store. Fierce in appearance and wearing a ninja forehead protector, he matched the description provided by the bookstore's owner.
"Here comes the target," Tobirama whispered, nudging his brother, who had been dozing off.
Hashirama immediately perked up. "Then let's go talk to him!" He nearly leapt off the roof in excitement.
Tobirama grabbed his shoulder, stopping him. "Patience. Let's follow him home first. We don't want to scare him off."
Hashirama grumbled but agreed, while Madara smirked from the shadows.
Inside the bookstore, the disguised Ryusei approached the counter. Yagyu Zangaki, the bookstore's manager, greeted him with relief. "Mr. Miyamoto, you're finally here! If you'd been any later, we might've missed the next issue's deadline."
Ryusei handed over a volume of Journey to the West. "Relax, I always keep my promises. By the way, can I collect my share today?"
Zangaki nodded, pulling out an envelope. "Four volumes sold this month, totaling 40,500 copies. Your cut comes to 810,000 ryo." He handed it over with a nervous smile. "Be careful carrying that much money around."
Ryusei raised an eyebrow but accepted the envelope. As he left, a nagging feeling told him he was being watched.
The three giants trailed Ryusei out of the village to a secluded forest where he often trained. When they saw him revert to his true form, Hashirama was shocked. "Ryusei?! You're the mysterious author?"
Madara wasted no time. Appearing before Ryusei in a flash, he held up a copy of the book. "This was written by you, wasn't it?"
Ryusei froze, his expression stiffening. "I-I don't know what you're talking about!"
Hashirama chuckled, crossing his arms. "Don't bother lying. We followed you from the bookstore."
Ryusei sighed in defeat. "Alright, fine. I wrote it. I needed extra pocket money, so I thought I'd write something people might like."
Tobirama narrowed his eyes. "And this… 'underworld' and 'reincarnation'? Are they based on real lore?"
Ryusei scratched his head nervously. "Well, the soul, reincarnation, and the underworld are real, but I exaggerated some things to make it more exciting."
Madara's expression darkened as he muttered, "Izuna… wait for me. I'll create peace and join you in the underworld." Lost in thought, he clenched his fists.
Tobirama, on the other hand, mused aloud, "If the underworld exists, is there a way to summon souls?"
Hashirama, grinning, squatted next to Ryusei. "By the way, isn't it class time? Did you skip on your first day?"
Ryusei tried to wiggle free. "No, I sent a shadow clone! I just… found class boring."
Madara's lips curved into a rare smile. "You're creative, I'll give you that. But what were you doing out here?"
"I've been working on a new taijutsu!" Ryusei struck a dramatic pose. "It's called Iron Body. By controlling blood flow, muscles, and chakra, I can harden my body like steel."
Hashirama's grin widened. "Sounds impressive. How about a practical test?" He cracked his knuckles, and Madara joined in, their eyes gleaming.
Ryusei paled. "Uh, please be gentle—"
"You want to be strong, don't you?" Madara interrupted coldly. "A true ninja endures pain."
Two hours later, Ryusei lay bruised and battered in the grass. Hashirama and Madara stood beside him, looking pleased with their "training."
Madara handed Ryusei a slip of chakra paper. "Here. Test your nature affinities."
Ryusei infused the paper with chakra, and it reacted in three ways: one-third burned, one-third crumbled, and one-third split in half.
"Fire, wind, and earth," Madara noted approvingly. He tossed two scrolls to Ryusei. "These contain instructions for elemental chakra manipulation and C-rank jutsu for each of your affinities. Master them, then come to the Uchiha compound if you have questions."
Hashirama added, "I didn't bring scrolls, but feel free to ask me anything."
Ryusei bowed deeply. "Thank you, Madara-sama, Hashirama-sama! I'll do my best!"
As the two legends walked off, Ryusei created two shadow clones to study the scrolls while he continued practicing his taijutsu techniques.
