Chapter 13: Chapter 13 - Popularity skyrockets
Wang Zi moved into his new house, which was old-fashioned by futuristic standards. It didn't have sleek metallic walls or holo-glass windows like the rest of the city, but it was spacious enough for everything he needed.
The house was a large two-story building, with wooden floors and large windows that let in natural light. It had a large living room with more than enough space for all of his equipment.
There was a section already dedicated to his gym setup, with all the equipment he had ordered through the system already delivered and neatly arranged in the corner.
The gym machines, weights, and fitness tech were neatly stacked and ready to be used. It felt like a personal playground for his body-building ambitions.
Despite living in a futuristic world, his new home gave him a sense of comfort and nostalgia. He had his own private space to train, rest, and most importantly, grow.
Once he was settled, Wang Zi quickly activated the system's Inventory, which was one of the most useful tools he had unlocked with his quest completion. It allowed him to store items, equipment, and even his virtual store products in a pocket space.
He organized his gym equipment, stowing it away neatly while making sure everything was within easy reach, before setting them down where he felt like. The Inventory was a strange feature, he didn't understand how it worked exactly, but it was incredibly useful.
"Neat." Wang Zi thought.
After a few minutes of arranging the equipment, Wang Zi went ahead and powered up the machines. The room soon came to life.
"Then let's get changed and started shall we?" Wang Zi said to himself, while looking at his scrawny figure in the mirror, "I might be an artist but my dream remains unchanged."
His physical form was still his foundation. Wang Zi had goals, BIG goals.
His mind was focused on the task ahead: he was going to build the kind of body that would rival the most powerful anime characters, his all-time goal: Broly.
He had a simple but effective plan: train like crazy.
His first week focused on getting used to his new routine. He followed an intense workout regimen, starting with heavy weightlifting and incorporating a lot of cardio and flexibility training into his sessions. He didn't just want bulk, he knew he would have to fight sooner or later. Class taught him that.
When he was done working out, he relaxed by running the Basic Breathing Method, getting used to the feel of mana running through his body, and doing his best to fuse it with his flesh.
He was in the gym every day, pushing his body to the limit. Wang Zi's current body was skinny, with little muscle to speak of, his mirrors and his status menu made sure to remind him of that every time he glanced at them.
He was determined to push himself beyond those limits though. He did it once, and with new specialized foods and the help of mana, he was gonna do it again, this time trying to go even further.
Between workouts, Wang Zi checked his manga sales. Every few hours, the system updated his numbers, showing him how his works were doing in the virtual market. His manga was gaining traction, albeit slowly at first. But the growth was steady. The Demon Slayer trailer had been the right call. His System Points (SP) were rising steadily with each person who read it.
"Not bad," Wang Zi thought, seeing the steady increase in both sales and his SP balance. "Just need to keep pushing. The momentum's building."
Wang Zi wiped the sweat off his brow, feeling the burn in his arms as he finished another set on the bench press. He took a deep breath and stepped off the weight rack, his muscles sore but still hungry for more. The sound of his breathing echoed in the gym, and while he caught his breath, his mind hovered over to the system store.
The system's storefront loaded in front of him, a familiar holographic interface flickering to life in the air. His heart raced a little, he had earned a fair amount of System Points (SP) from the success of his manga. He was eager to see if there were any useful tools or upgrades that might help him with his training.
Maybe something to give him a boost.
"I've unlocked everything from Demon Slayer, let's see if there's anything interesting." Wang Zi thought.
He scrolled through the catalog, his eyes darting over the options. The abilities were basic, mostly increased body strength, some swordsman proficiency, but among the options, two things immediately caught his eye.
"Nichirin swords... Even though I'm not really a sword guy, they do look very nice. And then - breathing styles."
His curiosity piqued, Wang Zi tapped on the option. A submenu popped up showing the various Demon Slayer breathing techniques, each one more visually stunning than the last. There were a variety of styles listed: the Water Breathing, Flame Breathing, Thunder Breathing, and even the legendary Sun Breathing.
He clicked into the Water Breathing category first, and the system pulled up detailed descriptions of each technique. With just a glance, he could tell the cost of each one would be steep. Each breathing style was a form of enhanced physical control, said to augment the user's body in incredible ways. The power it gave was immense, but Wang Zi quickly noted the price tags:
Water Breathing: 5.000.000 SP
Flame Breathing: 5.000.000 SP
Thunder Breathing: 5.000.000 SP
Sun Breathing: 15.000.000 SP
His heart sank a little. The numbers were higher than he'd expected. Even though his manga was selling better than he had hoped, it was still far from enough to afford anything as expensive as these breathing styles. He'd seen the increase in his SP from the sales, but it was still a drop in the bucket compared to the prices he was seeing now.
"Tsk, just the method to use the breathing style is so god damn expensive huh." He said , while looking at his status screen.

"I'm going to need a lot more SP before I can even think about buying these," Wang Zi mused.
"I wonder if I can use these breathing styles instead of the one the principal gave us. These ones are focused on getting oxygen into the lungs, but If i combine both of them and use them for mana... It seems like it could work?" Wang Zi thought while tilting his head. It seemed feasible.
He imagined himself using the Water Breathing, slicing through the air with grace and precision, the movements flowing like a river. His mind lingered on the Flame Breathing next, envisioning flames dancing around him as he wielded the technique. But the Sun Breathing, the most powerful of them all, made his heart race just thinking about it. The sheer intensity of that power, the heat, the unmatched strength it promised... But most of all it just looked the coolest.
"Soon." he thought "I'll get these. But not yet."
He sighed and closed the store window. For now, it was back to his grueling training. There was no shortcut to gaining power. It was all about hard work and patience, and Wang Zi knew that better than anyone.
He glanced at his current SP balance again, shaking his head with a small chuckle. "Gotta earn a lot more than this," he muttered to himself. But the thought of those breathing styles was enough to fuel his ambition. It was a reminder of where he wanted to go, of the power he would one day unlock.
"A week, 8 STR, 2 AGI, 3 STA. INT and WIS remain unchanged, probably because of the insane boost of the Rinnegan. I don't know if its good or not... But seeing my attributes rise gives me a thrill I didn't get in my past life heh."
"I'll keep going like this, INT and WIS can be levelled once I start fighting void beasts, I'm pretty sure the Human Path of the Rinnegan was made for that. No point in worrying about those two stats now."
"2 months and 3 weeks left till the tournament. If I'm lucky the manga will start getting traction soon, thanks to my 'buddies' Feifei and Alexander. And of course, the more people read it the more it will spread, I believe Demon Slayer is worth reading after all."
"Alright, back to the grind! I can start working on the anime, even though I've got to modify some stuff because I skimmed through a few episodes, I should have it ready by the time the tournament starts." Wang Zi mused. With [Ultra-Mind]'s assistance, he was sure he could do it in time.
Maybe even sooner, but he didn't want to neglect his body. He had enough of wheezing after running for just a little bit.
With that, he got back to his workout, pushing himself harder, knowing that the road ahead would be long but rewarding.
While Wang Zi continued his grueling workout routine, his manga was making waves in the V.B. His release strategy - staggering the chapters - was paying off. People were getting hooked, craving the next update, eagerly waiting to see where the story would go. It was working.
The mysterious author known only by their alias "MMS" was starting to build a reputation, even if the world didn't yet know who exactly was behind the work.
Feifei had been one of the first to dive deep into Wang Zi's manga. She had read through most of it in a single sitting, completely engrossed in the tale. By the time she finished, her excitement had reached a fever pitch. She couldn't help herself. The next time she went live on her stream, it was all she could talk about.
"You guys, I've found something incredible," she said, her voice almost breathless as she spoke into the mic. Her audience was already accustomed to her usual discussions about the latest romance anime episodes, but this was different. Something had her full attention.
"I just started reading this amazing manga, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. It's... incredible!"
Her audience was quick to react. They flooded the chat with comments, clearly excited by her endorsement.
"Wait, what? It's a manga?!"
"I need to read this! Where can I find it?!"
"Feifei, are you sure this isn't an anime? The trailer looked so real!"
The excitement in the chat was palpable, and Feifei could see it.
"Guys, it's called Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, and if you haven't read it yet, you're missing out. This series is gonna be huge," she continued. "The fight scenes are very pretty, the characters are deep, and Nezuko is just so cute! There's also this... insane breathing technique that the main character uses. It makes something like mana wave all around their weapons, its so cool!"
As she spoke, more and more viewers started looking it up, quickly finding Wang Zi's holographic storefront in the Virtual Bookstore. The demand surged. The manga was being read faster than ever, with Feifei's endorsement sending waves through the fanbase.
Meanwhile, Alexander, the young, wealthy young master, was having his own problems. Though he preferred watching real fights, he couldn't help but be drawn into the conversation when his stream wouldn't shut up about Demon Slayer. He'd seen the trailer, too, and while he was still skeptical about the whole "manga" thing, he couldn't deny there was something about it that piqued his interest.
Alexander leaned forward in his chair, staring at his screen, his fingers absently tapping on the desk. "Breathing styles… I mean, I know they're just fictional techniques, but they're so well-done. The precision of the movements…"
His chat was full of mixed reactions, a blend of fans who were just as curious as he was, and others who were less than thrilled by the idea of reading a manga.
"Come on, man. Manga? Why not just watch some actual fights?"
"If it's just a bunch of drawings, I'm not interested."
"Yo, Alexander, don't tell me you're into this stuff now?"
"Breathing styles, huh? Sounds cool."
Despite the mixed comments, there was a growing thread of curiosity in his chat. A few fans even went as far as to message him, asking if he would analyze the breathing styles in his next stream.
Alexander's fingers hovered over his holo-keyboard, his mind racing. He didn't usually pay attention to manga, but the combat techniques and the breathing styles in Demon Slayer were too interesting to ignore. He could practically see the flow of the fight, the control over one's body, the focus needed to use such techniques - he wanted to know more. Who came up with this?
"I might just have to contact the author," Alexander muttered under his breath. "Where did they come up with all this? It feels like it could be real. Did they steal some family's mana breathing methods and are spreading them like this?"
But when he tried to search for any trace of MMS, the elusive author, his efforts were in vain. There was nothing. No name. No socials. No accounts or profiles. All that existed was the alias and a few chapters of this oddly captivating manga.
The anonymity intrigued him. Whoever this author was, they were hiding their identity well.
Frustrated but intrigued, Alexander leaned back in his chair, staring at the screen. "I guess I'll have to keep reading to find out more."
