Chapter 12: Chapter 12 - Grinding it out
As the holograms displayed his work, Wang Zi felt a strange sense of pride welling up inside him. Demon Slayer was in this world now. People could see it, could experience it, and soon, it would be bought, read, and shared.
But that wasn't all. The System's notifications were already popping up, and people were checking out the store.
"Hahaha, I knew it, streamers were the best choice! Now we wait!"
The waiting game had begun. Wang Zi wasn't sure how long it would take for the first purchase to happen, but he was optimistic it wouldn't take long.
And just as the stream continued to buzz with excitement in the real world, Wang Zi got a new notification from the system.
Someone had bought his manga. It was just the first of many, but it felt like a huge milestone for him.
"Purchase Successful: 1 unit sold."
Suddenly, Wang Zi thought of something he also completely forgot about.
"Hua'er, did you put my name as the author?" Wang Zi was starting to have cold hands.
He didn't want his name to be associated with any of the works yet, or his plan to let people see his characters in real life would go down the drain, since everyone could connect him to his manga/anime and therefore know exactly what powers he had.
This wasn't something he wished to see happen.
"Master, since you didn't specify the name, I just put WZ at the end. Would you like to change the name?" said Hua'er.
"Of course! I refuse to believe people in real life are as stupid as in the anime world! Aren't you just painting a target on my back by using my initials? Even a dog could figure out who the author is once I expose anything about Demon Slayer! Change it!" Wang Zi was almost shouting. He couldn't risk getting found out.
At least not so soon. After all, he did want everyone to feel the chills he did when certain things happened in certain works, or when people saw fictional characters show up right in their faces.
"Change it to something else... What would be a good author name hmm." and as Wang Zi pondered, something hit him.
"Hua'er, just put the author name as MMS, for the system. There needs to be no author, they just need to know it comes from my store. As for the author, they can make one up if they want."
"Yes master!" Hua'er was giggling watching Wang Zi's antics, but she did add in the author name 'MMS'.
In the background, Feifei's viewers were still talking about the trailer and the mystery anime. Her audience was still buzzing, eager to see more of what they had just witnessed.
Her brother, having already been captivated by the trailer, was scrolling through the holographic storefront, curious to see more of what Wang Zi had to offer.
He glanced up at Feifei. "Hey, I just bought it. Can't wait to read it." He gave her a grin. "You know, it's been a while since I've found something that had me this interested."
Feifei smiled and turned back to the camera, eyes still wide with intrigue. "I'm going to have to read it too. This looks way more exciting than what I was expecting!"
The buzz in her chat had only grown stronger, and Feifei couldn't help but feel a strange excitement. As the comments continued to pour in, she couldn't help but wonder: Who was behind this?
Wang Zi stopped watching Feifei and turned to Alexander, ready to do the same thing he did with Feifei.
Alexander was what Wang Zi thought a wealthy young master would look like. He was watching a fight in the V.B's Colosseum while drinking tea. He had perfectly combed blonde hair parted in the middle, and was wearing glasses that hung just below his nose.
He was also dressed in a dark blue suit and seemed more interested in discovering the weaknesses of the ones currently fighting, together with the people in his stream, than the actual fight itself.
"He really does look like a young master. All suited up and drinking tea. All he needed was a maid and to be dressed in ancient clothes, maybe longer hair aswell, and I'd mistake him for a protagonist in some novel..."
"Whatever. It looks like both him and his audience like dissecting fights huh? The manga might not interest him much but the anime will surely get his attention. I hope I can snag a few of his viewers with the manga though, the anime might take a while." Wang Zi thought to himself.
Many would be deceived by his classy appearance thinking he was a refined young man, with a taste for the fine arts, but he was a master at breaking down battle strategies and was adored by his fans for his deep understanding of martial arts and combat techniques.
His streams had a huge following - mostly people who wanted to dissect fights, analyzing the smallest details of each move and counter them, much like Alexander himself.
"I don't believe you won't at least take a peek after seeing Tanjiro's dance-like swordsmanship." Wang Zi thought to himself.
He then accessed the system and uploaded his Demon Slayer trailer, sending it straight to Alexander's stream, the same way he had done with Feifei.
"System, do it!" Wang Zi ordered.
The scene on Alexander's stream was chaotic. His audience was hanging on his every word as he spoke about the upcoming colosseum battles, but suddenly... A video popped up, completely interrupting his broadcast.
A brief flash of color. Then, suddenly, it was Demon Slayer. A holographic animation filled the screen, with Tanjiro swinging his sword, a battle scene straight away, he faced off against one of the demons.
The chat immediately exploded, the viewers flooding in with confusion and excitement.
"Wait, what is this?"
"Did Alexander start streaming an anime now?"
"Is this a glitch?"
"What's going on? I came for the colosseum, not a weird cartoon."
Alexander froze, his face turning from amused to puzzled in an instant. He quickly turned to his controls to shut off the interruption, but the trailer played out in full.
"What the hell is this?" He muttered, clearly taken aback. " Who's messing with this young master's feed?"
But despite his confusion, the trailer kept going.
As the trailer reached its peak, where Tanjiro showed his Water Breathing Style, some kind of supernatural power making water flow alongside him, then onto his blade in a display of swordsmanship that was nothing short of a piece of art in Alexander's eyes.
Alexander was instantly attracted. Once the trailer was over, he uttered... "Beautiful."
A brief silence filled the stream, before Alexander spoke up.
"Huh."
The chat exploded with comments, the users trying to decipher what they had just seen.
"Wait... is this anime? It's actually got some decent choreography."
"What is this show? It looks insane!"
"Can we watch the whole thing?!"
Alexander rubbed his temples, trying to wrap his head around what just happened. This wasn't a glitch, that much was certain. His stream had been hijacked by some random anime trailer, and now he had a room full of confused and excited viewers.
He tried to regain his composure, but he couldn't hide the curious gleam in his eyes. Despite his initial irritation, he had to admit that there was something mesmerizing about the fluidity of the swordplay, the intensity of the combat.
Alexander raised an eyebrow, slightly impressed but still in his usual critical mode. He spoke to his audience in his signature, cool tone.
"Alright, alright…" He muttered, looking back at the screen. "Looks like someone decided to shove this in my face. Fine, I'll bite. Who's behind this? I didn't authorize this stream. Was this one of you??" Alexander looked like he wanted to murder someone.
"It wasn't bad, I'll give it that. The fight itself was solid, but still… it's just an anime, right? I mean, you can't compare this to a real battle. It's just flashy nonsense with some nice visuals. Not much depth."
The people in the stream however weren't all of the same mind as him.
"It's anime, man, what were you expecting? Realistic sword fighting?"
"Let's be real, though, the animations were nice."
"It's anime, but the fight scenes were still better than some of the stuff I see in the colosseum fights."
Alexander's lips curled into a small smirk. He wasn't going to admit that there was anything valuable in something he considered beneath him.
But then he went to check out the link on his screen to see if he could buy the manga.
His expression shifted, confusion clouding his sharp features.
"Wait, hold up." He clicked through to the storefront, only to be greeted by a simple counter with holograms showcasing manga covers. "This is it?" He tilted his head, unimpressed. "It's all just manga?"
His fans seemed equally unimpressed. Most of them at least.
"Wait, it's a manga? I thought this was gonna be an actual show or something?"
"I'm not buying a manga, that's just too much reading."
"Manga's cool alright? You should give it a try!"
Alexander sighed, rolling his eyes. "What's the point of all these visuals if it's just a book? Real fights are what get people's blood pumping. Not this." He shook his head slightly.
"If this author ever does an animation, maybe i'll check it out. But a book... It's just not for me. Alas."
Wang Zi was watching all of this play out, but he wasn't worried. It was expected after all, reading wasn't for everyone.
Unfortunately he wanted to finish the system quest as fast as possible, so he pushed out the manga first. But the anime was also a sure thing.
"Heh. Keep pretending. I'll see if you read it or not once the public's reactions come out. Even if you don't, I bet you'll come running once the anime is released. You can't escape!" Wang Zi smiled.
"Alright, this should be enough to get to the quest requirements." he said, while glancing at the system panel.
Quest 1: Publish Your First Work
Objective: Create and publish either a manga or anime from the previously selected worlds using the abilities you've unlocked from the system.
Reward: System Points x 10.000, Inventory unlocked.
"DING!
Quest completed. Host has been awarded with 10.000 SP. Inventory has been unlocked."
Quest 2: Get popular.
Objective: Have you work be read by more than 10.000.000 people.
Reward: Unlock character manifestation with SP for the work's world. Ability Selection Card(S)x1, Combat Manifestation Card(S)x1, Item Manifestation Card(S) x1.
Seeing the second quest, Wang Zi grinned, "It's here, more cards! Its not the max ranked ones but its good enough. 10 million people... Might take a while. Too bad this V.B. is only connected to this planet... Should only take a few weeks as most anyways."
"I hope you streamers don't let me down..." said Wang Zi as he exited the V.B.
Back in the real world, he called out Hua'er.
"Now I just need to wait for the numbers to climb. Its time to get back in shape and start getting used to the Rinnegan and to shape up my body. Hua'er, look for a place suitable for me. Doesn't need to be very luxurious, but I need a big enough space for my gym."
"Yes Master. I've already been looking for a place for us since you said the government would stop providing for you. I've found a decent place not far from school, should I buy it?"
"I trust you. Buy it and make sure to have daily necessities be delivered aswell.
Use whatever money you need for furnish my gym, I only need a bed, table, chairs and maybe a couch. Use the rest of the money to buy everything that would supplement my diet. Refer to those warrior-class awakeners to see what they use for their own bodies, I'll do the same as them. I leave it to you!"
"Of course master, trust me!" Hua'er beamed.
Wang Zi just smiled at her, and started packing up his clothes, ready to move to his new place, when he happened to glance at the mirror, and didn't see his Rinnegan.
"Hua'er what happened to the Rinnegan? I thought it couldn't be hidden?"
"You're half right master. For you to use the Rinnegan's abilities you do indeed have to activate it, there's no way to hide it. But if you're not using them your body closes the Rinnegan to prevent it from draining your brain too much. Of course, with enough training you can keep it on permanently if you want! After all, unlike the Sharingan, the Rinnegan doesn't have known chakra requirement to keep the eyes active in its original world."
"Hm. That's fine for now, the Rinnegan should only show itself to the world when they know who Pain is... Until then, I'll try my best to keep it hidden. Did you finish up buying everything?
"Yes, master. You can move in whenever you want!"
Wang Zi took one last look at his old place... And turned around without a second thought.
"Get ready for a whole new me world... Hahaha!"
