Chapter 2012: -1970- A deserved gift
At that moment, everyone turned their eyes toward Mash.
"Giving the Holy Grail to Mash?"
"That's quite the extravagant gift."
Roman and Da Vinci were both surprised—one stunned, the other amused—seemingly caught off guard by Rozen's decision.
On the other hand, both Artoria [Alter] and Jeanne [Alter] simply raised their eyebrows, without a hint of objection.
"Isn't that just fine?"
Jeanne [Alter] said nonchalantly, though her attitude made it clear that she had no issue with Mash receiving the Holy Grail.
"It was yours to begin with. Since you've inherited the Spirit Origin of the Holy Grail Knight, obtaining the Holy Grail is only natural."
Artoria [Alter] spoke in agreement, indicating her strong recognition of Mash.
"Mash-sama certainly deserves the Holy Grail."
Even Hassan of Serenity expressed her opinion with a gentle smile.
With that, everyone agreed with Rozen's decision, and the atmosphere gradually leaned in that direction.
Only then did Mash react, quickly waving her hands in protest.
"N-No way! Giving something so important to someone like me—"
Mash's instinctive rejection made Rozen narrow his eyes.
"What do you mean, 'someone like you'?" Rozen asked in a firm tone. "Are you saying you're not qualified to receive the Holy Grail?"
If anyone dared to say that, Rozen wouldn't hesitate to slap them with a Beast Vassal.
"You've inherited Galahad's Spirit Origin, so naturally, the Holy Grail that belonged to him should go to you. And besides, you've fought alongside me through six Singularities. Out of all of us, you're the only one who has been by my side the entire time, bravely fighting through everything. Just that alone is reason enough for you to receive this Holy Grail."
Rozen stated it plainly.
"But…" Mash hesitated. "Something this important should be used for a greater purpose. If it's given to me, I wouldn't even know how to use it."
To Mash, handing over something like the Holy Grail to her felt like a complete waste.
Though the Holy Grail wasn't an omnipotent wish-granting device capable of fulfilling any desire, it was still far from being something that could be given away so casually.
At the very least, anything that humans were capable of accomplishing, it could achieve instantly. That alone made it immensely valuable.
In Fuyuki City, summoning the Holy Grail required holding a Holy Grail War, a ritual that took decades to gather enough mana from ley lines. The ritual's magic formula itself had been painstakingly developed by the Three Founding Families through massive investments of resources, labor, and effort. That alone proved just how invaluable the golden chalice was.
Just because Solomon seemingly created seven Holy Grails with ease, people shouldn't mistake it for being an ordinary object.
As a Mage King capable of holding a Grand title, Solomon must have invested an immense amount of time, effort, and resources into forging those seven Holy Grails, using them as key instruments to disrupt human history and execute the Incineration of Humanity. That was proof enough that even he relied on them.
Even Rozen, though capable of creating devices akin to the Holy Grail, could not do so on a whim.
For instance, the Holy Grail that Altera received for modifying her Spirit Origin had taken Rozen an entire year to create. He poured an unimaginable amount of rare resources, knowledge from multiple worlds, and the mysteries of magic, along with manpower and materials provided by Sky Wizards. The result was an alchemical miracle—a colossal mana refinery built upon countless Mana Furnaces, Compact Mana Furnaces, High-Grade Mana Furnaces, and even a Mana Reactor infused with a fragment of divinity.
Thus, while the Holy Grail wasn't a one-of-a-kind existence, it was still an exceptionally rare treasure.
Countless people had lost their lives in pursuit of this miracle, proving just how precious it was.
If it weren't, Rozen wouldn't have been tempted to keep one for himself.
One could say that, across all worlds, the Holy Grail was one of the highest-grade treasures that an individual could obtain.
For that reason, Mash couldn't bring herself to accept it so easily.
No other reason—simply because it was too valuable.
"Wouldn't it be better to use it as Chaldea's lifeline—to supply mana for its operations? Or as a substitute resource to enable large-scale system functions? The summoning system could be improved with it. It could also be used to stabilize Spiritron Transfers, maintain Spiritron Calculations, procure cutting-edge equipment, or even develop new magical techniques…"
Mash anxiously suggested all sorts of alternative uses for the Holy Grail.
The girl was clearly more inclined to put it toward Chaldea's greater good.
However—
"Solomon's Holy Grails are already handling all of that. One more or one less won't make a difference."
Rozen bluntly shot down Mash's reasoning.
"If you truly don't want it, then do as Galahad did—return it to the heavens."
With that, Rozen casually tossed the last Holy Grail to Mash.
"Ah—"
Mash scrambled to catch the golden chalice, holding it in her hands with a stunned expression. She stared at the sacred relic, completely at a loss.
Unbeknownst to her, seeing her like this only made the others feel even more sympathetic.
And could anyone blame them?
"You're afraid of what, exactly? With all the effort you've put in up until now, you've more than earned this, haven't you?"
Jeanne [Alter] remarked bluntly.
"That rude woman isn't wrong. You've fought through six Singularities, defeated countless enemies, and have been fighting ceaselessly to save humanity and restore proper history. Receiving this reward is only natural."
Artoria [Alter] uncharacteristically offered her own encouragement.
"Everyone makes a good point."
Hassan of Serenity added, her voice filled with kindness.
Even Roman and Da Vinci spoke up.
"You should just accept it, Mash."
Roman said with a resigned smile.
"As a reward for restoring six Singularities, you've more than earned it."
Da Vinci seemed delighted with the outcome.
Mash had never once asked for anything.
She had never wished for anything.
Despite her fears and hesitations about battle, she had fought her way to this point, bearing the weight of a cruel fate.
If even she couldn't receive something in return, then that would simply be too unfair.
Even if the Holy Grail was an overwhelmingly grand reward, it was still rightfully hers.
"Just use it however you see fit."
Rozen smiled at Mash and reassured her.
"I believe that if it's in your hands, you'll put it to the best use possible."
Those words became the final push.
Still hesitant, Mash finally nodded, albeit a little embarrassed.
And so—
Not only had Mash inherited Galahad's power, but she had also become a true Holy Grail Knight.
"I swear…! You all are too busy chatting away! Hurry up and save me already!"
Olga Marie's cries of distress continued, marking the end of this mission.
With that, the Sixth Singularity was successfully restored.
Now, only one step remained before human history could be saved.
