MHA: The Tower Era

Chapter 9: New World In Hell Difficulty

Luke, who wore a hoodie that covered his hair and eyes, sat on the bench and mentally pressed the [Tower Internet] to open it, and the screen that had split into [Tower Internet] and [Status] disappeared and a bigger screen formed.

The new screen had a title that said [Tower Internet] and below the title was a simplistic forum, like the chosen internet, and the forum was separated into three categories: Advanced, Intermediate and Normal. "What does that mean?" Luke pressed on the normal category and the blue screen changed to a green colour and it displayed an introduction.

[Tower Expedition: Normal

[Welcome! The Tower wishes you luck inside the Normal Difficulty Tower, you had already been introduced to the Tower when you first arrived in the square. This Internet will function as bridge between the Normal difficulty players, and so you will climb the Tower to floor 30 and escape to Earth.]

And below the introduction, there was various other posts that were pushed down quickly and replaced, but eventually, one of the post garnered enough likes and it stood at the top.

Luke, who was curious, pressed on the top post.

[What Is Going On?]

[Post by GreenRock.

[Everyone needs to calm down, hundreds of you are rushing ahead without looking carefully. The Tower warned us when we were all gathered inside the city square, so there is no need to rush to the next city or hunt monsters to increase your Energy. One reason, the Tower mentioned that monsters outside the Tower will be reduced, but not completely reduced and that we will be allowed to leave every few months. The Tower has prisoned us, but it has also given us the chance to gain power, so let's gather up and group together to beat the bosses on each floor.]

[BlueFlower]: I'm in! Anywhere that is safer.

[TreeMountain]: What is going to happen to the Chosen outside the Tower?

[YellowRock]: They'll be overrun with monsters and probably die? unlucky.

[PurpleKing]: What's going on?! Why aren't I an Advanced Difficulty player? I'm going to sue!

[YellowRock]: Are you stupid? The Tower said that the higher difficulties are harder, not for someone with a C to D Affinity. lol.

[JesterBlue]: They're also not able to communicate with players on a lower difficulty, just look, I can't believe I am explaining this to someone when the Tower just said this to everyone smh.

Luke also looked at the other difficulties, but just the rate of posts slowed down, and they didn't have any other information.

"So, I am in a higher difficulty than other players, I can't even post," Luke pressed on the post button, but another screen popped up. [Not Allowed: Higher Difficulty] Luke continued to ruminate, "So is there a place for us?"

Whilst looking at the categories, Luke stumbled onto a button at the top right that looked like a world and pressed it, and the entire screen changed. Suddenly, Luke looked at the crowd that went by and searched for any different reactions, but noticed nothing, "It's like they can't see the screen, it wasn't like this in Earth..." Refocusing, he saw the changes.

[Tower expedition: Hell Difficulty - 6 - Floor 1]

[A World for ten floors, and ten goals which corresponds with 10 floors. You are stuck here, until you reach the next World, the Tower Wishes you luck.]

[Caution: The Tower's arrival has increased the Energy concentration in this world.]

Luke sensed the Energy, "This is different... Normally, Energy is absorbed through Monsters who gather them, but here I can just absorb it from anywhere." Luke whispered to no one. Focusing on the particles that only Affinity users could see, Luke channelled his Soul Affinity and imagined "Attract" and the particles that looked white through the multicolour eye moved towards Luke.

Suddenly, Luke felt a wave go through his body and a weird sense of satisfaction overwhelm him. Luke closed his eyes and sensed his soul which was blue coloured become slightly bluer.

Luke felt like he could do more with his Affinity, he channelled his Affinity and gathered it into a ball of spiralling energy. Luke connected his body to the ball through the tether and could look in a 360 vision around the ball. Looking at himself, a man with a black hoodie and whose eyes were more than glowing, they created light, Luke felt like he didn't seem normal in this world.

'My power increased, but keeping myself hidden is more important.'

"On Earth, it was normal for people to change hair colour and eyes because that was how Affinity expressed itself," Luke looked at his hair that was covered. "But, here most have one colour." Luke looked at others with their hair, although colourful, only had one colour. "This is an issue."

Looking at the city and perhaps what would have been a train station, Luke had to decide what to next. "I need money," Luke decided quickly and he stood up. "And people wouldn't mind some criminals going missing, right?"

Luke blended with the others, "I need to do something with my hair and eyes," Luke looked at the core he had in his pocket, a small one from a goblin. "These things aren't going to cut it".

Avoiding the crowd, Luke looked at his surroundings and stumbled upon a jewellery and looked at the core in his hand and then at the jewels on the display. "Maybe." Luke entered the shop and left with a few bills, but his face wasn't happy.

Luke entered the shop and noticed a store clerk, who was on a device. 'A phone? Hadn't seen that one since before the Tower.' Luke put the core onto the desk and asked to sell it.

The man, who was on his phone texting, looks up and puts up a smile and asked Luke a question.

"Would you like to sell this jewel?" The man asked.

"Yes," Luke put the core onto the desk and motioned towards the sphere. "I would like to know its value."

"I will get my manager." The man left the desk and went to the back.

Luke looked at the myriad items. 'I could steal, but that might get me into trouble.'

Luke looked at the man approaching and couldn't help but become angry because as Luke looked at the man's memories, he noticed that he was going to scam him.

'Don't. Don't. Calm down. This isn't Earth, there is no need to get into trouble with others. I can't help others when I have people wanting my head.'

Luke sold it at the price offered and left, Opening the door that seemed lined with gold and feeling the breeze that came when he left the shop.

Luke stepped onto the concrete pavement and held the yen that he got when he sold the core and carefully placed it in his pockets.

"I was ripped off and I couldn't do anything about it." Luke walked while looking at the floor and his determination rose. "I will never go there again." Luke looked at the shop's display and walked away to find a hotel that fortunately was enough with his money. "Money is hard to make." Luke said quietly.

Luke continued walking through the streets that were clean, the buildings were tall and beautiful, the people looked happy. The children following their parents and buying things like ice cream and hotdogs. "So different." Luke stopped and retraced his steps.

Luke approached a hotdog stand and bought a hotdog. Whilst waiting, Luke looked at the various shops that sold clothes, hats, and food. The people who go into these shops who held luxury items like handbags. The pets of people or the fresh vegetables made Luke feel like he was an outsider.

"Here, you go! A hero's hotdog." The woman who was selling the hotdogs spoke in Japanese, but Luke understood it. "The Translation thingy is nice." Luke muttered.

"What?" The woman had said when she held out the hotdog.

'What is this fascination about heroes?'

"Ah. Nothing." Luke took the hotdog and continued walking. Luke scrutinised the hotdog as if it was an alien object and mimicked others who also bought hotdogs. Luke took a bite, and ketchup dressing stained his hand and Luke looked inconvenienced.

'What the hell?' Luke looked at his hand that had sauce that dripped out. Luke continued to eat and walk. 'This is nice. Never thought that the falling part was a feature. Are there hotdogs that don't do this?'

Luke took one bite and sauce once again dripped, but this time on his cuffs. 'I change my mind, hotdogs are very annoying, good thing we lost them after the Tower Era.' Luke mused whilst trying to remove the stain.

Whilst walking, Luke overheard a conversation of a parent and their child.

"You want All-Might toys?"

"Yes, yes!"

"Alright, lets go get some." The parent seemed exhausted.

"Yay!" The child jumped around.

'All-Might? Is that like a A-Tier Affinity user?' Luke's eyes shined and he understood.

'Heroes and villains, huh? It seems familiar.'

Luke searched the area and noticed billboards that advertised All-Might and other heroes, but also wanted posters of villains.

'This world is different.' Luke confirmed as he saw the news reporting the damages a villain created on a passersby phone.
