Chapter 30: 30. The Beginning of a Duo
Location: Ristarte's House
"SETH WE ARE SO SCREWED! THIS IS A S-CLASS WORLD WE ARE TALKING ABOUT!" Goddess Ristarte panicked as she rummaged through a towering stack of papers.
"There's only one 'S' here, it's not the worst." Star-eyed God Seth replied as he read a similar stack of papers.
"EAZY FOR YOU TO SAY! YOU HAVEN'T SEEN HOW BONKERS DIFFICULT AN S-CLASS WORLD IS!"
"Of course I don't. I never did this anyway. This is my first time doing it with you."
Ristarte raised a paper towards Seth's face. It's a sheet of a Japanese person with their biography and statistics. "OK, as the most experienced goddess in this hero gig, you know what I said: the most important thing before saving that world is to choose a worthy hero 'CAPABLE' of saving the world. So, you could determine how 'CAPABLE' they are based on their statistics."
"Then why are all of these from Japan?" Seth laid out the papers; all of them were Japanese people.
"Don't mind it. This is our first batch, If we couldn't find any good ones we could just get more."
"So why Japan, normally there should be a mix of them. Do you like their culture? Their discipline? Or even their looks?"
Ristarte shrugs it off, "There's no time for this, please gather those with significant stats from your pile. We have a world to save, and we must choose the best one."
"Alright done. Here you go." Seth handed her a dozen of his choices from his pile.
"Seth, you can't rush it, you need to comb through each of their stats meticulously before–Oh my god, these guys are good." She went full focus on Seth's choices.
"Yup, from my judgment, this guy seems to be the best from my pile of applicants."
"Kirito, an average-looking teen in my… WHAT KIND OF LOPSIDED STATS ARE THESE! His agility and dexterity are through the roof!" Ristarte stood flabbergasted while Seth smiled on the side.
She realized that while many didn't have that teen's ridiculous stat, they somewhat shone on their own.
Some may have above-average stats but when she observed their hidden stats and personalities, it became a whole other matter.
"Seth, tell me honestly, how did you get to pick these golden eggs from those thousands?"
"If I tell you that I have clairvoyance, yes, prophetic powers, would you believe me?"
Ristarte flinched, her eyes widened. DID he SAY he has prophetic powers!? One of the most sought-after powers in the omniverse?! Seth has this godly skill, and he didn't tell her in the first place.
Ristarte wanted to bang her head somewhere but in seconds she changed. I, Ristarte, have no clue how to react… she deflated, his arsenal was too stunning for her to comment.
She ruffled her hair like a stressed-out secretary before asking grumpily, "Seth, do you still have more 'unique' powers other than the three you have mentioned now?"
"I actually do-mph." Ristarte suddenly held Seth's lips shut.
"You know what? NO! Don't tell me more…" her heart couldn't take it.
Seth with his lips blocked replied with silence.
Ristarte moved away her finger before having a quick look through Seth's papers. After affirming that the dozen Seth chosen are the cream of the crop, She thought, He chose these hidden gems from thousands of applicants and papers in minutes, MINUTES! Now I know why future-fate-related powers are some of the top echelons of skills; it is ridiculously convenient.
Ristarte immediately latched herself to Seth, "Seth, since you've already done your lists of heroes, can you do the same with mine? You don't want this to take forever! Right~...?" She begged with puppy eyes.
"Why not." He agreed with a 'whatever' attitude.
Seth's eyes swirled red, His face became befuddled for a bit at the results.
"That's strange…? I didn't find the candidates we are looking for, but only a very odd way to get it. Are you sure about this?"
"Yes please!"
"Even if the method is weird?"
"Of course, everyone knows clairvoyance works in funny ways!"
"Please don't be angry at me, alright?"
"Huh? Why?"
Seth pulled out something from his coat.
RIstarte reacted grossly, "Eww Seth, is that an amputated finger? Whose is it?"
"Mine." Seth extended his left hand out. Ristarte noticed that his ring finger was different from the rest. It was purplish-dark with specks of sparkles on it.
A beautiful black-red ring was worn on this, making it look more exotic than supposed to.
"Look." his left ring finger momentarily turned translucent while the ring quietly floated on it. "This finger's fake, a prosthesis if you will."
It was the first time that Ristarte realized that his left ring finger was fake, When she saw this earlier, she thought it was one of Seth's fashion choices, causing her to ignore it.
Now she knows "Oh... Please don't take it to heart."
"Now please observe this finger closely." Seth held his jar towards Ristarte.
Ristarte bends forward to the jar.
"Closer."
She's now a few inches away from the jar.
"Closer."
Her nose borderline touched the jar, "Seth, is this necessary?" She asked.
"My clairvoyance said yes. Don't ask why and how, just trust the result."
"Well I don't know how-"
*BONK!*
"WAAGH!"
*KABLAM!* Ristarte sprang back in fright. Her momentum bumped her stack of papers, toppling the pile and scattering all the lists of heroes over her body.
"DID YOUR FINGER JUST RAMMED ITSELF AT ME!?" Ristarte shouted as she scrunched some papers out of anger.
"It did."
"Why didn't you tell me it could do THAT!? Now LOOK at this MESS!"
"Well, you asked for the best hero among these applicants, and through these shenanigans you got it."
"You gotta be kidding…"
"Nope, look at the paper your hand had begrudgingly crumpled, that one should be the best out of all of them."
Ristarte realized the piece of paper in her hand, she unraveled it and read.
"Seth…"
"Yes?"
"We have HIT THE JACKPOT!!!" She slapped that paper to Seth's chest
Seth took the paper and took a glance, his clairvoyance only showed the steps to get the best heroes from the pile, he had no clue what kind of person he would get.
The moment he laid eyes on it, he stood frozen. Like a flash of lightning, Seth picked up all the strewn paper on the floor and restacked it.
Seth scanned through her pile of applicant heroes and plucked another dozen heroes with great potential.
He added it to his two dozen choices and compared them to this one applicant. Both Ristarte and Seth double-checked and agreed that the others couldn't compare to this one.
Ryuuguuin Seiya. Seth read the name.
"I don't think we should choose him."
"HIEH!!! WHY!? YOU BETTER GIVE ME A GOOD REASON FOR THAT!"
"With these behemoths of a stat, shouldn't we save him for an even more dangerous world?"
"Seth, you could use the same person multiple times."
"Ah… ok then bring him here." Seth gave the paper back to Ristarte since she's more familiar with the summoning of heroes.
Ristarte acted like a gremlin, "Definitely, with him, that S-class world should be a-"
"Wait! There's something funny about his-"
"Give me that!" Ristarte snatched and threw the paper to the floor.
The moment the paper landed, a magic circle emerged. A silhouette materialized in front of them, and with a cloud of smoke, he appeared.
Ryuuguuin Seiya, a Japanese with a face that could swoon many women, while his expression looked both neutral and annoyed, the two gods paid attention to something else
So dreamy~ Ristarte commented in her mind as she witnessed the hero's body in all of his manly glory.
This man's not simple. Seth summarized as he examined his well-trained physique.
For some reason Seiya arrived shirtless, allowing him to display his well-toned and sculpted body. Ristarte just wanted to embrace those abs while Seth was astounded by the amount of strength they could release.
Unbeknownst to Ristarte, Seth sensed something unbecoming of Seiya.
He's adapting to the mana and magic at breakneck pace. As a chosen hero tasked with saving a world, they were given access to a power system to aid in their efforts.
The mana or magic spell power system was the most common choice due to its versatility, ease of access, compatibility, and abundance in the majority of worlds that they saved.
If the world lacked mana, another power system would be provided for them, but since the s-class world, also known as Gaeabrande has mana and magic, this magic system was what Seiya received.
"Where am I?"
Ristarte came forward and announced like a goddess, "Welcome Ryuuguuin Seiya! You have been chosen by the gods as the hero destined to save a world from its demise!"
"A hero you say?"
"Yes."
"The type that fights bloody battles?"
"Yes?"
"May I refuse?"
"What? You mean being a hero?"
Seiya nodded.
"No, you can't."
"Can't you just send me back?"
"Nope."
"I want to file a complaint."
"NO YOU CAN NOT!"
"Ceh…"
"pfft!" Seth snorted.
Ristarte feeling defeated, requested backup, "Seth Help me with this guy!"
"Why, though, he couldn't forfeit this matter. Either way, because-" Seth explained to our hero his circumstances.
—
"So you really can't… That's crappy."
"Well SORRY mister! But the only way to get out of this is to defeat the demon king first."
Seiya held his chin for a while, looking contemplative.
A few seconds later he laid himself on the ground, knees bent and hand behind his head..
"What are you doing?"
"Since I couldn't reject this chore of a duty, I would like to be allowed to train myself for the upcoming threat," Seiya answered as he flexed his abdominal muscles to elevate his upper torso into a sitting position. He was doing sit-ups.
This guy might have a few screws loose. Ristarte thought.
Suddenly, a somewhat serious tone sounded, "Hero Seiya? Are you working out to prepare yourself?"
"Of course."
"Then you shouldn't use sit-ups, they don't offer the best muscle impact and will also put a lot of burden on your spine."
"Oh, then how should I do it?"
Seth removed his coat and shirt. OUH~! Ristarte received a double whammy from two pristine abs.
"Let me introduce you…" Seth instantly dropped to the floor just like Seiya, "to the bicycle crunches." Seth immediately lifted his left leg as if pedaling a bike while he twisted his torso, allowing his right elbow to touch his left knee. Then he switched to his right leg and left elbow, repeating this motion in a cycle.
"A typical sit-up only affects your upper abdomen while also putting your back under stress. On the other hand, the bicycle crunch impacts all parts of your abdominal muscles without overburdening specific parts of your body, maybe your neck if you didn't do it well, but the likely chances are much lower."
Seiya's eyes glinted with a different light as he did the same exercise as Seth did.
Seth added, "While sit-ups are still a great exercise due to their simpler movements, I can tell you're doing it for core strength and muscle training, for that, this is the better one. Oh wait, use your lower body more to twist, not your neck."
Ristarte on the other hand, stood bewildered. Am I in a gym or something? How did these two bond and become gym bros in seconds!? This is my house for goodness sake!!
"Hold it! Seiya, won't you need training equipment here, normal body workouts are still effective, but with things like dumbbells, your gains will soar."
"Seth! Don't turn my place into a-"
"Don't worry, Ristarte. Your house isn't big enough for that. My place is," Seth spoke as a portal opened.
