Chapter 83: 080, the origin of superpowers!

According to Jessica's description, her superpowers stem from a car accident.

A few years ago, during a trip to Disneyland, the vehicle driven by Jessica's parents collided with a large truck carrying radioactive chemicals.

Her parents and younger brother died on the spot.

Severely injured, Jessica fell into a coma for several months.

When she woke up, she discovered that she had gained extraordinary strength, far beyond that of an ordinary person.

The unknown chemicals at the accident site had completely altered her cellular structure.

Perhaps even her genetic makeup had changed.

Zaire stood quietly by her bedside, listening to Jessica's account.

When he heard that Jessica's superpowers came from some unknown chemical agent, he couldn't help but blink a few times.

He suddenly spoke and asked Jessica:

"Jessica, do you remember which company the truck carrying the chemicals was from?"

"Huh?"

Jessica, momentarily distracted by Zaire's question, responded instinctively:

"Of course I remember... I think it was called Roxxon Industries? And because the driver of the other vehicle was mainly at fault, I, as the sole survivor, received quite a bit of compensation..."

Before she could finish, Jessica stopped herself, realizing she had been talking too much. She noticed Zaire's serious expression and his brow furrowing in thought.

Cautiously, she asked:

"Uh... Boss, is something wrong?"

Zaire took a deep breath.

He hesitated for a moment before speaking slowly:

"Jessica, what you're about to hear is related to a task I've been working on recently..."

Zaire briefly recounted his conflict with the tracksuit gang, the discovery of a child's body.

The main point was the connection between the missing children and Roxxon Industries.

After hearing Zaire's story, even though Jessica's injuries had not fully healed, she was overwhelmed by a mix of anger and shock.

She gripped the edge of the bed, her fingers tightening.

A loud metallic sound echoed as the metal of the bed distorted.

Jessica exhaled sharply.

She lifted her chin and said to Zaire, who was expressionless:

"Sorry, Boss... I lost control of my emotions just now."

"It's not your fault..." Zaire shook his head slightly, unfazed. "It's the enemy's fault."

"Based on the information we have so far, I believe Roxxon Industries is creating a chemical compound that grants people superpowers..."

"They're trafficking large numbers of healthy children, and perhaps the only goal is to experiment with how these chemicals affect the human body... Adults are even less of an issue—those with money and nothing to do will gladly participate."

Zaire stood, his arms crossed, his gaze intense.

"If they really succeed in their experiments... imagine a society already torn by issues like gun violence and race—what would it look like then?"

"As an ordinary person, you could just pay a large sum of money to gain an unknown superpower... No money? No problem, we offer loans! No loans? No problem! We even offer superpower loans! Once you have superpowers, you can use them to get money, can't you?"

Zaire let out a cold laugh as he spoke.

"Heh... of course, this is just my own theory... I suspect Roxxon Industries' goals go beyond just this."

The atmosphere in the medical room became heavier.

Jessica, who had been silent, was about to get up from the bed, but Zaire shook his head slightly, stopping her.

He spoke slowly:

"Jessica, your training isn't finished yet... I don't deny your mindset and will, but this is a war, not just a street fight."

"You haven't experienced the kind of terrifying situations that require more than just being cannon fodder to take part... Besides, I expect more from you than that."

Zaire's harsh words brought Jessica back to her senses.

She took a deep breath, lifted her chin, and said to Zaire:

"I promise I'll recover quickly and join the training!"

"Then good luck, Jessica... tougher battles await you in the future."

Zaire smiled faintly and encouraged her before turning and leaving the medical room.

The room was left with only Jessica, her face serious.

She slowly sat up, raising her hand in front of her.

Then, her slender fingers made a creaking sound as she clenched them into a fist.

Zaire, squinting, was on his way to the equipment room.

He hadn't expected that Jessica's superpowers would be linked to Roxxon Industries.

If that was the case, Roxxon Industries, now controlling artificially created superhumans, was likely as powerful as Hydra, who had infiltrated S.H.I.E.L.D. and the federal government.

However, Zaire wasn't intimidated.

It would only take more time and effort to completely eliminate them.

Besides, he had developed a considerable interest in Roxxon Industries' superpower chemical compound.

It was one way to rapidly increase combat strength.

Though he couldn't use it himself, he could give it to loyal subordinates, combined with rigorous military training, to quickly form a battle team.

Unfortunately, Zaire wasn't sure how far Roxxon Industries had advanced in their research.

Would the mysterious compound work on adults?

After all, both Jessica and the deceased Purple Man had gained their superpowers in their childhood...

"I hope the infiltration of the Red River Orphanage goes smoothly..." Zaire muttered to himself, standing before the equipment room.

He took a deep breath and quickly entered.

Inside, Zaire almost emptied the entire equipment room.

With a large number of weapons in his arms, he walked toward the Valkyrie transport plane.

Facing an unknown battlefield and enemies, Zaire decided it was better to be over-prepared.

"David... How's it going?" Zaire walked past David, eager to ask.

 David twisted his metallic head.

The blue light in his eyes fixed on the weapons in Zaire's arms, and he replied slowly:

"My lord, the progress is rapid... I have almost mastered how to pilot the Valkyrie."

However, just as a smile appeared on Zaire's lips, David suddenly shifted his tone.

"However, my lord, there is one small problem..." David spoke carefully.

At that moment, Zaire reached the transport plane's cabin, set down the equipment, and turned to ask:

"What problem? Is there not enough fuel? I remember there's a barrel of molybdenum in the storage room..."

David tilted his head slightly.

"Respectful Om Messiah... the location you chose to create your miracle is a bit off..."

"The underground passages connected to the base hall have not been modified at all..."

"So... we can't fly out yet."

"...
