Chapter 84: 081, the Man of Atonement

Gao Family Trading Company

The tall and imposing Zaire sat in a mahogany chair.

He held a cup of hot tea in his palm, slowly sipping it.

Due to construction issues at the base, his mission had been delayed by several days.

David had assured him that within three days, he could expand an underground passage large enough to accommodate the Valkyrie.

So, Zaire had no choice but to wait patiently.

At the same time, he decided to inspect Madam Gao's situation.

Creeeak—

With the sound of a creaking door turning, the tightly closed wooden door slowly opened.

A white-haired Madam Gao walked in with a neutral expression on her face.

She quickly walked up to Zaire, who was sitting in the chair, and knelt before him.

"Master!"

Calmly, Zaire placed his teacup down.

His gaze swept over Madam Gao, and with a helpless expression, he said, "No need to kneel every time we meet... Report on the current situation."

"Yes, Master..."

Madam Gao slowly stood up.

She straightened her back and respectfully addressed Zaire: "At present, the majority of the gangs in New York have submitted. Through your envoy, all criminals who have blood on their hands have been secretly executed. Human trafficking and most criminal activities, including drugs, have been abandoned... Master, you will lose more than 60% of your annual income, with the remaining portion coming from legitimate industries."

Upon hearing Madam Gao's brief description, Zaire nodded slightly.

David seemed to understand his preferences very well, having made such a drastic arrangement.

However, it also aligned with Zaire's mindset.

If the gangs he had subdued didn't change their ways, then why bother with eliminating kingpin?

"I remember some gangs specialize in smuggling luxury goods, right? Don't stop the smuggling routes for luxury goods and firearms—after all, there are people willing to consume them, and this income is free money... Plus, expanding into legitimate industries requires someone skilled to oversee it... Forget it, let David scout out talent."

Zaire pondered for a moment before speaking to Madam Gao: "Also, for the other gangs smuggling drugs, we can use the excuse of annexation to strike back, making war fund more war while training new personnel..."

Before he finished speaking, the expressionless Madam Gao suddenly bowed slightly and said:

"Master, in fact... we are currently at war with the Hand. However, since the battles mostly occur in hidden places and only the elite of the gangs are involved, it has never attracted official attention."

"The Hand?"

Zaire raised his chin slightly, frowning.

"Those ninjas? I think I killed one of their ninja leaders before..."

Madam Gao, expressionless, stood still and spoke in a deep voice: "Master, that was Ninja Head Murakami, one of the five fingers of the Hand. Aside from me, there are still three other fingers... Because the war I launched against kingpin disrupted their plan to excavate Dragon Bones, they launched a retaliatory action."

"Dragon Bones?"

Zaire sharply caught the unfamiliar term.

He couldn't help but narrow his eyes.

At this moment, Madam Gao raised a delicate hand and gently stroked her smooth face.

She showed Zaire a slight gesture, saying: "Dragon Bones are the remains of a mysterious ancient creature left behind after its death... By performing certain rituals, consuming Dragon Bones grants the power of immortality... Master, I am over 100 years old and still preserve my youth."

Zaire took a careful look at Madam Gao, especially noting the stark contrast between her white hair and youthful body.

However, Zaire's face showed little excitement.

He inhaled deeply and asked calmly: "What are the side effects?"

"Like 'drugs'... Every year, or sometimes even sooner, one must consume Dragon Bones again, or the time lost will return in full... According to past experience, those who fail to take Dragon Bones on time will instantly age and decay."

Without hesitation, Madam Gao revealed her deepest secret to Zaire.

"Heh..."

A cold smile suddenly appeared on Zaire's face as he narrowed his eyes.

After a brief moment of thought, he gave the command:

"Then let's go and take them from the Hand... Even if we don't use it in the future, we can't let them have it!"

"Yes, Master... What are your plans next?"

"Do you need to inspect the men fighting against the Hand, or head to the warehouse? The firearms you requested have already been stored there."

Madam Gao gave a slight bow, a strand of white hair falling from her head.

Zaire took a deep breath.

He slowly rose from the mahogany chair.

His large physique, towering over Madam Gao by at least a head, forced him to look down at her.

With his eyes narrowed, Zaire flexed his muscular arm and smiled.

"Then let's first check the quality of those subordinates..."

"Yes, Master."

Inside the Trading Company's training field.

Expressionless, Zaire effortlessly lifted a muscular man with one arm.

He casually tossed him into the air.

The man slammed hard onto the rubber floor of the training field with a loud crash.

Thud—

The man's face turned bright red.

He lay on the ground for a while before slowly exhaling.

Struggling to raise his head, he looked at Zaire with a mixture of fear and respect in his eyes.

"I give up!"

The man gasped and shouted loudly.

Zaire stopped in his tracks.

He stood still, his gaze slowly scanning the muscular men around him, who were now exchanging nervous glances.

Then, Zaire calmly asked, "Is there anyone else who wants to challenge me?"

Before his words were even finished, the room fell into an eerie silence.

At that moment, a small, Slav-looking man hesitated but then gathered his courage and stepped forward from the crowd.

He spoke to Zaire: "Boss, you've already defeated everyone here... I don't think anyone else dares to fight you."

Zaire shifted his gaze.

He looked at the small man and asked: "What's your name?"

"Uh... You can call me Frankie."

The small man, named Frankie, answered cautiously.

Zaire nodded.

He stepped forward to Frankie, placing a hand lightly on his shoulder.

"You have more courage than the others... Now, you're the leader of these men, understand?"

"Understood!"

Frankie's eyes gleamed with excitement as he straightened his back and shouted loudly.

"Also... starting today, your group's compensation will be doubled, provided you survive the upcoming battles."

"So, try to stay alive."

Zaire smiled slightly and announced the news to everyone present.

Then, without looking back, he walked out of the training field.

He didn't care about the rising morale of the men behind him.

For these gang members, whose past was filled with complex and bloody histories, the carrot-and-stick method would always work.

"Let you past scum become the cornerstone of humanity's future," Zaire muttered under his breath.

The words, like a mosquito's buzz, floated out of his mouth, slowly dissipating into the cheers and excitement of his men.
