Chapter 307: C196(2)
The flames burned so fiercely that they blocked even the outside light, turning the interior into a sea of dazzling red fire. Under the glow of the Fiendfire, Kain's face twisted into a devilish grin.
Priest Ohm instinctively felt a chill of fear crawl up his spine. He subconsciously stepped back and stammered, "W-Who is this guy?"
His reaction didn't go unnoticed by Enel. The self-proclaimed god, always arrogant and prideful, refused to tolerate such cowardice among his subordinates. Without hesitation, he activated his ability.
"One million volts—Lightning Strike!"
Boom! Crackle!
A bolt of electricity shot out, striking Ohm with brutal force. One of the four Divine Priests was now gravely injured, his body twitching from the electric shock.
The other three priests exchanged uneasy glances, a mix of fear and suspicion in their eyes. Enel, wearing a dark expression, declared coldly, "I have no need for subordinates who fear the enemy. From this moment forward, Ohm is stripped of his position as one of the Four Priests."
"Aren't you scared too, Enel?" Kain taunted, a smirk still on his face. "Seeing your subordinate like that… does it remind you of yourself?"
The roaring flames around them distorted Kain's features, making his smile appear even more sinister. For a fleeting moment, Enel felt fear.
But the emotion quickly twisted into rage.
"My only concern was that you might try to escape," Kain continued, watching him with amusement. "With the speed of the Thunder Fruit, you could have run away, which would've been annoying. But luckily for me, your arrogance let me set up this barrier in advance."
"You dare challenge a god?!" Enel's grin turned manic. "Arrogant, ignorant scum!"
Gripping his staff, he struck one of the three drums on his back.
"Thirty million volts—Thunderbird!"
Crackle!
A massive thunderclap echoed as lightning surged through the air. In an instant, the electricity shaped itself into a lifelike Thunderbird, crackling with raw power as it let out a piercing screech and shot toward Kain.
The Thunderbird moved with blinding speed. But just as it reached Kain, its form began to waver—flickering, unstable.
Then, with a simple wave of his hand, Kain dispersed it. The once-condensed Thunderbird broke apart into countless streaks of electricity, scattering in all directions before vanishing within seconds.
Kain shook his head and looked at Enel with mock disappointment.
"Thirty million volts, huh? That's all?" He smirked. "Feels more like a few million at best. Tell me, Enel—have you actually measured it? Or did you just throw out a random number?"
"You… you blasphemous bastard!"
Grinding his teeth in fury, Enel struck his drum again, this time with even more force.
"One hundred million volts—Thunder Beam!"
A surge of lightning erupted, condensing into a devastating beam of pure electricity, hurtling toward Kain at lightning speed.
However, as the 100-million-volt Thunder Beam approached within three meters of Kain's body, it began to destabilize and collapse.
Then, with a surge of powerful magic, Kain dispersed the core of the attack, causing it to melt away into countless tiny currents that scattered into the void.
"This one was probably only a few tens of millions of volts. Looks like you really are just making up numbers," Kain remarked, glancing at the scorched-black insulating material surrounding him.
Even with the ancient runes reinforcing it, the material could only withstand so much before breaking under the sheer power of Enel's lightning.
"So… you came prepared."
Enel's smirk faltered slightly as he started noticing something strange. Invisible objects seemed to be floating around Kain, and both of his previous lightning attacks had started collapsing at exactly three meters away from him.
Before Enel could analyze further, Kain launched his counterattack.
" Fiendfyre !"
"Thunderburst Curse!"
Fiendfire erupted across the entire shrine, engulfing everything in its path. Several priests perished instantly in the chaotic inferno, while powerful explosions shattered the ground, sending shockwaves through the air.
Multiple holes were blasted into Enel's body, but due to his Logia nature, the damage did not incapacitate him.
BOOM!
BOOM!
CRACKLE!
The battle inside the barrier turned into an all-out storm of blazing fire, deafening explosions, and crackling thunder.
Even though the barrier contained the destruction, the cloud island beneath the shrine had begun to crumble apartunder the overwhelming pressure.
Yet, amidst the chaos, Enel laughed.
"Hahaha! Other than this weird flame, you can't harm me at all! And now, your little tricks that disrupt my lightning… they're gone!"
His grin widened as he slowly raised his golden staff.
"Once I shatter that eggshell of yours, let's see what else you can do!"
After testing Kain's abilities, Enel felt relieved—aside from the strange fire, none of Kain's attacks could actually hurt his elemental body.
'So that's all he is… just a slightly special mortal,' Enel thought smugly. 'He'll soon learn what happens when you challenge a god.'
He began gathering an enormous amount of lightning, preparing to unleash an even stronger attack to break through both the barrier and the Fiendfire Net.
Even though Fiendfire could burn his elemental form, lightning could still disperse the flames if it was powerful enough.
Just as Enel was about to strike—
"Avada Kedavra!"
A green light flashed from behind him.
Before Enel could react, an excruciating pain split through his skull. His vision darkened, his mind faded, and the lightning in his hands flickered uncontrollably.
Less than a second later—
Enel's eyes rolled back, and his body went limp, plummeting from the sky.
Kain, acting quickly, caught him midair with a Levitation Charm before inspecting his condition.
"Good, he's not dead." Kain sighed in relief. "If this was enough to kill him, reducing the spell's magic power would've been pointless."
Without wasting time, he snapped a pair of Seastone cuffs onto Enel's wrists and secured him inside a special containment box designed for Logia users.
