Chapter 308: C197(1)
"Sorry for the disturbance."
After asking several questions at the shellfish shop, Nico Robin still didn't obtain any useful information. So, she bought a few things and left.
"Angel Island is so big. How long would it take to visit all of it?"
"Go around all of it?"
A familiar voice suddenly sounded beside Nico Robin. Though startled, she didn't let it show on her face.
"The residents of Sky Island seem to have never heard of the historical text... Boss, are you finished?"
"That's right. The Thunder Fruit user is really difficult to deal with. If he were a little more cautious, I wouldn't have been able to do anything to him. He has an incredibly strong Observation Haki, unparalleled speed, and terrifying destructive power. It's just a pity that he's an idiot."
Hearing Nico Robin's question, Kain smiled and said, "Enel... If he had spent some time in the second half of the Grand Line, I wouldn't have been able to defeat him so easily."
"But why are you asking them about the historical text? I sent you here to gather information valuable to the Kain Chamber of Commerce. That's the duty of a vice president. Once you've finished, I'll take you to find the historical text myself."
Nico Robin's expression shifted as she immediately asked anxiously, "Boss, do you know where the historical text is—?"
Before she could finish, Kain vanished before her eyes, Apparating away.
"If that was the case, you should have made it clearer from the start. This boss really does whatever he wants..."
Nico Robin sighed.
Although she hadn't learned the exact location of the historical text, at least she now knew it was somewhere on Sky Island. Her next step was simply to gather information, and with that, she should be able to make progress.
"Speaking of which, the most valuable resource on Sky Island is probably the various magical shells. If the Kain Chamber of Commerce could monopolize their trade, they could become a major source of profit."
After Enel was defeated by Kain, several of his priests had survived. These individuals were skilled fighters, proficient in Observation Haki, and well-versed in Sky Island's unique shell-based combat style. With proper training, they could become effective guards.
The environment of Sky Island is vastly different from others, so these priests might struggle when leaving their home. However, with proper conditioning and an injection of Super Soldier Serum, they should be able to adapt quickly.
Back in Alabasta, Kain had already conducted human experiments using captured pirates and death row prisoners. While the serum didn't have a significant effect on the strongest test subjects, it still provided some benefits.
Since the people of Sky Island have lived in thin air for so long, the Super Soldier Serum should be even more effective on them.
Kain's trip to Sky Island had been highly rewarding. The most valuable acquisition was the Thunder Fruit.
Once he returned, he could extract the Thunder Fruit serum. But before that, he planned to study Enel and determine whether a Logia Devil Fruit could coexist with another.
If not, he would look into the possibility of coexisting Paramecia and Zoan fruits instead.
"Aside from the Thunder Fruit serum, Enel's men, and his Ark Maxim… that ship is far too ugly to serve as a cargo vessel for the Kain Chamber of Commerce. Doesn't this guy have any sense of aesthetics?"
Kain felt a bit annoyed whenever he thought of Ark Maxim. Its power system and levitation technology had been completed early on, yet Enel had wasted an excessive amount of time decorating it with a massive golden idol. That golden god's face definitely needed to go.
"The power system can be improved. Forget about the attack turrets on Ark Maxim. I'll take it back and give it a complete overhaul."
Initially, he had considered enlisting Gan Fall's guards for labor, but they were warriors, not shipbuilders.
However, the ship's power system was still quite useful. With an Ark Reactor installed for energy conversion, Ark Maxim could achieve sustained flight.
Once he returned, he could visit Water 7 and recruit skilled shipbuilders to come to Alabasta to remodel the hull structure.
Afterward, Kain divided the God's Guard into two groups—one group was sent to Cloud Village to inform the Shandia, while the other went to summon the former god and the White Beret troops from Angel Island.
Sky Island was too far from Alabasta, and Kain had no interest in ruling any nation. His goals in the One Piece world were clear: collect Devil Fruits and local resources to expand his power.
Ruling a country might be viable in a modern setting with advanced networks—if the Red Queen could assist in governance, it would save him considerable effort.
However, the Pirate World was far too inconvenient. Even a slight shift in the magnetic field could disrupt internet development, making large-scale administration more trouble than it was worth.
