Marvel: I Need A New Body

Chapter 88: Ch 81: Avengers and X-Men

The citizens of Novi Grad screamed in terror as the Chitauri forces descended upon them. Cars swerved off the roads in panic, buildings shook from the thunderous sounds of the leviathan beasts roaring overheard.

Within minutes, the once peaceful city had descended into anarchy. It looked as if someone was playing a cruel prank on humanity, summoning those creatures once again, just that this time, it was on the opposite side of the world.

'Nicholas Fury's' eyes widened as he saw the footage on his screen.

"Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck." Fury clutched his head, panicking, "What the fuck. What the fuck. What the fuck!!!"

Maria Hill came rushing towards him, "Talos! Talos! Calm down!"

'Nicholas Fury' immediately turned to Maria Hill, and his skin shifted from black to green, Fury turned into a green, ugly Skrull, "How the hell do you expect me to calm down, Maria?"

He shook the agent by her shoulder, "One Day! It's been One freaking day since I took on Fury's role and the entire world is going to a shithole! Yesterday, it was convoluted stuff about Fury's boss, Hydra, Steve's missing lover, and shit, but that was a manageable shit. But 'this' Shit... this shit's out of our hand, and out of our literal fucking world!!"

A few days ago, there was an assassination attempt on Fury by the Winter Soldier, and he was fatally injured. The Skrulls offered help. Right now, the real Fury was being treated somewhere in space, and Talos, Fury's old Skrull friend was taking his place.

Maria Hill was still the human Maria Hill though, she had to be here to guide Talos as Fury's replacement.

Ring Ring

"And that freaking phone's ringing nonstop. What does your president even expect from me? Isn't Fury no longer the director of S.H.I.E.L.D., Fury shouldn't be a servant of your government anymore!!.... Right?"

Maria Hill sighed, "Well..." she paused, thinking if he just added a few 'motherfucker' around his sentences too then his imitation of Fury's speech would be almost perfect.

Sighing again, she continued, "Bucky is not Steve's lover, he's just a friend."

Talos raised his brows, "Really? Never saw someone go that far for a mere friend, especially of the same gender... Humans are a bit weird."

Hill rolled her eyes, not even caring to correct his mistake, "You have no idea, Talos..."

Ring Ring

The phone rang again.

Fortunately, Talos was no longer in a state of mental breakdown, "What should I say, Maria?"

"Calm down and in a serious tone, tell him you're gathering the Avengers, and trying to contact the X-Men. And then hastily hang up the call.", Hill suggested with caution.

Talos nodded and picked up the call.

"Tony's arrived, Hank. Open the entrance," Steve Rogers said as he looked outside the Blackbird's window.

A suit of red with streaks of yellow was flying close to the jet, it was Iron Man, always making a grander entry.

The reddish-yellow object that was following Stark's new Iron Man suit, attached itself beneath the craft. It was carrying a simple but potent weapon of mass destruction.

Tony's suit opened up like a gift wrapper, and he stepped out with his characteristic swagger. "What's the top speed of this jet again?" he queried, his eyes zeroing in on a dark blue, devil-looking mutant with a tail.

"Uh... umm..." Kurt Wagner stammered, glancing around nervously. "I-uh... I'm not sure, Sir."

"After a recent upgrade, it's MACH 4.4, Stark." Hank McCoy replied from the cockpit.

"Impressive, what kind of engine do you guys use?"

"Tony Stark, are you seriously asking such questions at such a time?" Scott Summers glared from his seat, his frustration evident.

"Ah, Banner, they got their own anger issue guy on their team," Tony smirked, leaning casually against the seat of Bruce. "You've got competition."

"Tony, I-I think you should try to make a good impression..." Bruce said with a sheepish smile and gentle attitude, the guy was a total cutie when he was not the HULK.

"I think the X-Men already love me, though."

Before Scott could respond, Jean Grey gently patted his shoulder from behind his seat, subtly signaling him to stop.

Scott sighed and obeyed.

Leaning on the seat, his thoughts drifting, 'Another world-ending mission, if we survive this, then, I'll definitely confess my feelings to her. Even Professor was motivating me to do it...'

The billionaire superhero snorted, "Anyway, do we have any better plans or do I have to carry a nuke in the portal once again?"

"Mr. Stark," Charles said with a fatherly voice, patting Tony's slightly trembling hand, "You don't have to sacrifice yourself again, we are in this together."

Tony rolled his eyes, "Yeah, okay, well... I'm not fond of people casually touching my hand. So, back off a bit, Prof. Xavier."

Well, even though Tony was a bit traumatized from the previous invasion, Charles's sympathetic and over-fatherly words were not something that he needed right now.

Charles shrugged it off with a warm laugh and then briefed him about the known information and their strategy.

The situation was oddly similar to New York two years ago.

A giant portal opened up in the sky and those freaking Chitauri aliens rained down from it, beginning their cruel devastation in mere minutes.

It's just that this time the portal was sparkly and orange instead of cloudy and blue, unlike the last time.

Another difference was that in New York there were Avengers, while in Sokovia, there was an extremely competent military. One of the footage even showed freakin soldiers with jetpacks!

Such military strength from a small nation like Sokovia was unexpected but since Stark knew Wanda Maximoff, their military general's face, he could guess how they amassed such military strength. Probably, stealing and looting, just like they did in Stark Expo a year ago.

It had been about 25 minutes since the portal opened and yet Sokovians were keeping the damage within the city itself.

The news footage did show Wanda Maximoff issuing orders from the ground and taking the fighting on her hand but for some reason... she was not using her powers nor did they see her brother Pietro or the mysterious masked man.

It sparked some doubt in the minds of those who knew about Maximoff's true identity and nature... things didn't seem to add up.

However, Tony didn't have time to think about previous petty vendettas right now. These past few months, Wanda Maximoff has created a strong public image.

If even half of her actions were genuine, if she truly had changed, then Tony was willing to let bygones be bygones.

But if Maximoffs and that thin-masked guy were the ones behind this invasion, then he would never forgive them.

Charles summarized the plan once again to Tony.

The plan was to split the team in two. The first team will help Sokovians in damage control and rescue; the second team will analyze and close the portal.

"Ugh," Tony rolled his eyes, "You guys don't learn at all, do you? That's exactly what WE did the last time and it resulted in thousands of casualties."

"Do you have a better alternative, Tony?" Steve asked with a serious expression, genuinely wanting good advice.

"I do." Tony grinned, "I brought an old-fashioned, big bad missile with me. Also, where the heck is Thor?"

Steve smiled, instantly figuring out what Tony had in his mind.
