Chapter 4: CH 4
S.H.I.E.L.D. Headquarters – Nick Fury & Natasha Romanoff
"What do you think?"
Hearing Nick Fury's question, Natasha Romanoff crossed her legs and fell silent for a moment.
"I hope it's fake, although this diary is full of oddities."
"But if it's true, I don't know if this parallel universe's future will be the same as ours."
"So you believe it?"
Nick Fury's voice was calm, but there was an edge of curiosity to it.
"I have no idea."
Natasha Romanoff pretended to be relaxed and smiled.
"I don't know whether to believe it or not. After all, the first entry in this diary is just… pure hopelessness."
"But if the Clint Barton (Hawkeye) in the diary is the same Hawkeye we know…"
"Then that Natasha Romanoff in the diary must be me."
She met Fury's gaze and gave him a smirk.
"So, Director, do you think I'll be the first to die in battle, or the first to retire?"
Nick Fury didn't answer immediately.
Instead, he remained silent for a moment, deep in thought.
"The Avengers has always been a concept of mine."
Nick Fury's voice was serious as he looked at Natasha Romanoff.
"A team of individuals with superhuman abilities, meant to defend the world against global threats."
"I haven't officially acted on this idea yet. In fact, no one even knows the name 'Avengers'—except me."
"Director, does that mean you believe the contents of the diary?"
Natasha Romanoff raised an eyebrow.
"It doesn't matter."
Nick Fury's expression hardened.
"Natasha, from this moment on, I'm pulling you from all your current assignments."
"You have one mission—find the owner of this diary. This is critical."
"If the contents of this diary are true, then the diary's owner, Su Che, is someone who knows the future. That makes him incredibly important to us."
Hearing Fury's determination, Natasha Romanoff sighed and spread her hands.
"I understand that, but Director, do you realize how difficult that is?"
"There are over seven billion people on this planet."
"China alone has a population of 1.4 billion. We only know that his name is Su Che, and that he has some kind of superpower."
"We don't know his abilities, his identity, his appearance, or his location. To use a Chinese idiom—this is like looking for a needle in the ocean."
She leaned back slightly and smirked.
"And more importantly, if he's in China, within the jurisdiction of the Divine Spear Bureau, then compared to their power… well, let's just say S.H.I.E.L.D. isn't exactly on their level."
(Comic Lore Note: S.H.I.E.L.D. vs. Divine Spear Bureau)
The Divine Spear Bureau (Shen Spear Bureau) is China's equivalent of S.H.I.E.L.D., but significantly more powerful in some aspects. They have:
• A larger number of enhanced individuals and metahumans.
• More advanced aerospace carriers.
• A highly autonomous and efficient intelligence network.
Simply put, if Su Che is in China, then S.H.I.E.L.D. has almost no way of extracting him.
Hearing Natasha Romanoff's analysis, Nick Fury leaned back in his chair and rubbed his temples.
"Damn, this really is a problem."
"We'll take it slow. If the first diary has appeared, I'm willing to bet the second diary isn't far off."
"Sooner or later, when more diaries appear, we might find clues leading to the owner—Su Che."
Manhattan – Inside an Apartment Building
"So… Nick Fury trusts the diary the most?"
Looking at the trust level ratings displayed in his system:
• Nick Fury: 57%
• Wanda Maximoff: 40%
• Natasha Romanoff: 35%
Su Che was slightly surprised.
He had expected Wanda—a fourteen-year-old girl still consumed by her desire for revenge—to be the easiest to deceive.
And he had assumed Nick Fury, the world's most paranoid man, to be the hardest.
Yet now, Nick Fury had the highest level of trust.
Tsk.
Looking at his first fabricated diary entry, Su Che suddenly realized something.
Nick Fury hadn't even conceived the Avengers yet.
In this timeline, the concept of the Avengers only existed in his own mind.
That was probably why Fury trusted the diary the most—because no one else should have known about the Avengers.
Su Che stood up and walked to the window, watching the busy streets of New York City below.
Damn.
This was the most dangerous place in the Marvel Universe.
Aliens, villains, disasters—everything bad always happened in New York.
If it weren't for the system's requirements…
If he didn't need to establish contact with Avengers members and make them believe in his "parallel universe" backstory…
If that wasn't the only way to gain more powers…
Then Su Che would have already fled back to China, where he'd be under the protection of the Divine Spear Bureau.
Tsk. And to make things worse, the system forced me to act like "a superhero from a parallel world."
If not for that, he could have just gone full Homelander, flying off into the sky with zero worries.
He laughed at the thought.
Then, he opened the system and claimed his rewards for completing the first diary entry.
