Chapter 3: CH 3
S.H.I.E.L.D. Headquarters – Nick Fury's Office
After reading the first entry in the black-and-gold diary, Nick Fury let out a slow breath.
He hadn't expected the scene described in the diary to be so shocking.
According to the diary, Kang the Conqueror had been defeated, but countless versions of him from different timelines joined forces with numerous monsters and Celestials to destroy Earth.
But… who was Kang the Conqueror?
Some villain obsessed with planetary destruction?
And what was the Celestial Host?
Were they the so-called gods from Norse mythology?
And what was the Time Variance Authority (TVA)?
Was it some kind of organization similar to S.H.I.E.L.D., the one he currently controlled?
Nick Fury was certain he had never heard of the TVA before.
Pondering this, Nick Fury turned on his computer and began searching for the names mentioned in the diary:
"Su Che, Clint Barton, Dr. Bruce Banner, the Hulk, Thor, Loki, Maria Hill, Ant-Man, Wanda Maximoff, Pietro Maximoff, Tony Stark, Steve Rogers, Natasha Romanoff…"
After thinking for a moment, Fury categorized some names differently.
Since the diary stated that Tony Stark, Steve Rogers, and Natasha Romanoff were among the first to either die in battle or retire, he separated them from the others.
After a brief hesitation, he also added Pietro Maximoff to that list, but with an uncertain symbol next to his name.
The diary mentioned that others hoped the diary's owner and Wanda Maximoff would have a child named Pietro.
But that didn't necessarily mean that Pietro was dead.
After all, it wasn't uncommon for people to name their children after uncles, brothers, or other relatives.
After organizing the names, Nick Fury began analyzing these individuals.
According to the diary, these people were all part of the Avengers, an idea that he himself had conceived.
This meant that the diary's owner, Su Che, must have come from a parallel universe.
The existence of Clint Barton (Hawkeye), Natasha Romanoff (Black Widow), and Dr. Bruce Banner (Hulk) seemed plausible enough.
But who was this Tony Stark?
Was it just someone with the same name?
Or was it referring to the famous billionaire playboy, the son of Howard Stark?
It couldn't be him… could it?
After all, no matter how one looked at it, Tony Stark was an arrogant, narcissistic playboy.
It was hard to imagine him as a superhero, much less an Avenger.
Then there were Thor, Loki, and Maria Hill—he knew about Hill, but not the other two.
And Ant-Man…
That name reminded Nick Fury of Dr. Hank Pym.
Pym had developed Pym Particles, which allowed size manipulation.
S.H.I.E.L.D.'s classified files already had a record of Ant-Man.
Could it be referring to Dr. Hank Pym himself?
Probably not.
A small detail in the diary mentioned that Dr. Banner was discussing parenting with Ant-Man and She-Hulk about his son from Sakaar.
This suggested that Ant-Man also had a child.
But Hank Pym's daughter, Hope van Dyne, was already almost thirty years old.
And knowing Hank Pym's personality, it was unlikely that he would casually discuss parenting with Bruce Banner!
As Nick Fury was lost in thought, a knock came from his office door.
He gestured for the person to enter, and when the door opened, Natasha Romanoff (Black Widow) walked in.
Nick Fury & Natasha Romanoff – The Black Gold Diary
Seeing Natasha Romanoff enter, Nick Fury didn't bother to hide the black-and-gold diary.
Instead, he asked calmly, "What do you need, Romanoff?"
According to his tests, no one else could see this diary anyway.
"I did have something to report at first, but now… it doesn't seem so important."
Natasha Romanoff shook her head as she looked at the black-and-gold diary on Nick Fury's desk.
Then, from behind her back, she pulled out a diary that looked exactly the same.
"You have one too?"
Nick Fury's eyebrows raised slightly.
"Aside from you, who else in S.H.I.E.L.D. has one of these?"
"S.H.I.E.L.D.?"
Natasha Romanoff paused for a second before nodding in agreement.
"Yeah, now that you mention it, S.H.I.E.L.D. is definitely a simpler and more convenient name compared to our full agency name."
After her small quip, Natasha sat across from Nick Fury and shook her head.
"I don't know much about this yet."
"But aside from me, no one else seems to be able to see or touch this diary."
"I tested it on Clint Barton—he couldn't see anything."
"In other words, only the diary's owner can perceive it."
Nick Fury nodded at her conclusion.
"Not only that, Director."
Natasha Romanoff continued, her expression slightly tense.
"The diary's owner can't disclose its contents to others."
"I just tried telling Clint Barton something unimportant from the diary."
"But before I could even say the words, I felt a sudden chill—like I would die if I spoke."
A shiver ran through her spine as she recalled the last time she had felt something this terrifying—
Her training in the Red Room.
Having said that, Natasha Romanoff met Nick Fury's gaze and asked seriously:
"Director, what do you think of what's written in this diary?"
