Joining the Joyful Union Sect, My Life in the Grip of My Senior Sister

Chapter 123: I'm Going to See the Future!

Chapter 123: I’m Going to See the Future!

Only now did Lin Fengmian realize that his lie had already been exposed. Feeling embarrassed, he asked awkwardly, “So… you knew all along?”

Luo Xue snorted, but didn’t bother to argue further. There were more important things to discuss.

“So you lied to me. In reality, I never went to Ning City a thousand years later.”

Seeing no way to keep up the ruse, Lin Fengmian truthfully admitted, “You didn’t come. Perhaps something came up and delayed you.”

“Or… maybe you just forgot about me after a thousand years.”

Luo Xue’s eyes were sharp as blades, as if they could pierce through his soul, making Lin Fengmian’s heart tremble.

“I know exactly what I’d forget and what I’d never forget. You know something, Lin Fengmian. Otherwise, you wouldn’t have lied to me in the first place.”

Her tone became urgent. “Tell the truth, Lin Fengmian!”

Lin Fengmian hadn’t expected Luo Xue to be so sharp, and his gaze wavered, betraying his unease.

Luo Xue caught the flicker in his eyes, and her expression became even more complex.

“It seems I was right. I don’t exist in the future, do I?”

Lin Fengmian’s heart sank, but he forced himself to remain calm. “You’re thinking too much. I was just upset that you didn’t come, so I made up a story to make myself feel better.”

Luo Xue sneered coldly. “I don’t believe you! I want to see the future for myself!”

Before Lin Fengmian could react, she pushed the Zhenyuan Sword into his hands and prepared to strike her own body.

Lin Fengmian flinched and quickly let go of the sword. “Are you crazy? What do you think you’re doing?”

“I’m going to use your body to travel to the future!” Luo Xue declared firmly.

“That’s not appropriate, is it?” Lin Fengmian stammered, avoiding her gaze.

“What’s so inappropriate about it?” Luo Xue sneered.

Lin Fengmian tried to scare her off. “My body has to eat, go to the bathroom, a lot of inconveniences. Besides, things are complicated on my side. Don’t mess around.”

Luo Xue raised an eyebrow. “What kind of problems could you have that I can’t handle? Wouldn’t I be better suited to handle them?”

Lin Fengmian was speechless. In a last ditch effort, he blurted out, “Aren’t you afraid that I’ll do something inappropriate with your body?”

Luo Xue laughed self-deprecatingly. “You’ve already seen what you shouldn’t have seen last time. What’s there to worry about?”

Her gaze became determined. “There must have been something important in the future. Otherwise, you wouldn’t be so determined to stop me.”

Lin Fengmian groaned inwardly – his lies were only making things worse. With no other choice, he stubbornly said, “I won’t let you go. If you want to stop me, you’ll have to kill me!”

His only advantage was that he had the initiative – as long as he didn’t touch the Zhenyuan Sword, Luo Xue couldn’t force her way through.

Even if she killed him here, he could still return safely.

Luo Xue realized this as well, and she glared at him angrily. “What are you hiding from me? If you don’t tell me, I’ll never speak to you again!”

Lin Fengmian sighed deeply, knowing that there was no escaping the truth. “All right, Luo Xue, I’ll tell you everything. But you have to promise to stay calm.”

Luo Xue’s expression became solemn. “I promise.”

Lin Fengmian looked at her with a complicated gaze and slowly said, “According to historical records, a thousand years ago, Sword Immortal Luo Xue entered the Heavenly Abyss and never returned. Her fate remains unknown.”

Although Luo Xue had suspected this outcome, her face still turned pale upon hearing it. She stood there in silence, unable to speak for a long time.

“So I’ve already fallen into the Heavenly Abyss.”

Lin Fengmian’s heart ached as he looked at her and tried to comfort her. “It’s not certain. You may have found a way out and I just don’t know about it.”

Luo Xue laughed self-deprecatingly. “I’m not that powerful. The Heavenly Abyss can bury even the highest beings.”

Lin Fengmian was stunned – he had no idea that the Heavenly Abyss was capable of such terrifying power. For a moment, he was at a loss for words.

After a long silence, Luo Xue asked, “Why did I go in?”

Lin Fengmian shook his head. “There was no explanation in the records. There are only a few brief mentions of you.”

He had deliberately left out the part about the destruction of the Qionghua Sect, fearing that it might be too much for her to handle.

“Only a few sentences?” Luo Xue asked in surprise.

Lin Fengmian nodded. “I found the information in a book called The Hundred Beauties in the Joyful Union Sect. It describes you as the foremost beauty among the Divine Prefecture’s Four Great Beauties – Luo Xue, the Sword Immortal.”

“You can’t expect such a book to contain much about your real life.”

Luo Xue let out an ironic laugh. “Since when am I worthy of being called the top beauty of the Divine Prefecture’s Four Great Beauties?”

She sat down quietly, her figure looking small and vulnerable.

“So even a lifetime of cultivation can’t prevent us from eventually becoming dust.”

Lin Fengmian sat next to her and offered gentle words of encouragement. “Sometimes it’s not the end that matters, but the journey on the way.”

“Since ancient times, who has escaped death? Mortals live only a few fleeting decades, but don’t they still live vibrant and beautiful lives?”

“Just because we know we’re going to die, does that mean we should stop living?”

Luo Xue smiled faintly, finally letting go of some of her burdens. “You don’t need to comfort me. I understand these things better than you do. I sought immortality and transcendence. It’s just a shame that I never reached my goal.”

Lin Fengmian couldn’t help but feel a little regretful – maybe he should have lied and told her that she had ascended to immortality.

“Well, as long as you can keep an open mind. And the future isn’t set in stone. There’s always a chance for things to change.”

Luo Xue turned to him and asked, “Aren’t you afraid that if I change the future, you might cease to exist?”

Lin Fengmian nodded slightly. “I am afraid. But I don’t want you to die. I think it’s a risk worth taking.”

Luo Xue let out a lighthearted laugh and shook her head. “You idiot.”

Lin Fengmian grinned. “We’ve hardly interacted. Even if the future changes, it probably won’t affect me much.”

Luo Xue was silent for a moment, then asked, “What about the Qionghua Sect? How are my master and the others doing?”

Lin Fengmian scratched his head uncomfortably. “It was only a Hundred Beauties book. Do you think it would have details about them?”

Luo Xue let out a soft “Oh,” disappointment flickering in her eyes despite her efforts to hide it.

Lin Fengmian noticed her mood and tried to cheer her up with funny stories, doing his best to make her smile.

Luo Xue finally laughed in exasperation. “You’re so annoying!”

Then she asked more seriously, “You said your situation was complicated. What’s going on?”

Lin Fengmian hadn’t expected that Luo Xue would still be worried about him even after learning about her uncertain fate. His heart was filled with conflicting emotions, but seeing a chance to distract her, he decided to tell her everything.

Luo Xue listened attentively, although it was clear that her emotions had taken a toll on her usually sharp mind.

“Fox spirits, a small fox demon, the scent from the corpse, the Qin family…”

She tapped her palm rhythmically, but even she couldn’t put the clues together.

“No clues? No outside help?”

Lin Fengmian nodded. “Yes, and outside help might not arrive in time. That’s why I had to cooperate with the Joyful Union Sect to see if we could fend off the enemy together.”

Luo Xue hummed softly in acknowledgement, but didn’t offer the usual strategic advice she was known for, leaving Lin Fengmian somewhat disappointed.

Still, he thought, he couldn’t rely on her for everything – this time, he would have to handle it himself.

Just then, the sky began to crack and crumble – their time together was coming to an end.

“See you in a few days,” Lin Fengmian whispered.

Luo Xue nodded, then forcibly pushed the Zhenyuan Sword into his hands, smiling playfully.

“See you in three days! I’ll take care of your problems for you.”
