Chapter 255: Chapter 13. So She Was Brought Back
[Arc4] - 13. So She Was Brought Back

"I'm telling you…" El-Melloi II stubbed out his cigar in the ashtray, his mouth twitching. "Do you realize what you've done?"
Cyd held Miyu in his arms, his gaze wandering, too embarrassed to make eye contact with El-Melloi II. "Nothing... nothing really."
"If you had brought back a stray cat or dog, I could understand," El-Melloi II rubbed his forehead. "But you went and brought back a child..."
"What's the big deal?" Cyd pouted.
"The big deal is, what about this child's family…"
"In this world, I have no family," Miyu said calmly, though her words were heartbreaking.
El-Melloi II opened his mouth, but even he didn't know how to respond.
"Until we find someone who can be her family, I want to take care of her," Cyd gently stroked Miyu's head.
"Ah~ Do you think you can save everyone?" El-Melloi II scratched his head. "There are many children like her. Do you plan on saving them all?"
"No, but… precisely because I can't, I will save those I can reach," Cyd smiled slightly, tilting his head. "I'm only doing what I can."
And that's why you are a hero…
You don't save people to become a hero. You save them simply because you can.
No matter when, someone like you will always be called a hero.
El-Melloi II sighed, instinctively wanting to light another cigar to calm himself, but after seeing Miyu in Cyd's arms, he put it back.
"Master, let's take care of this child," Gray tugged on El-Melloi II's sleeve.
"I'm starting to feel like the villain here," El-Melloi II twitched his mouth. "I didn't say we wouldn't take her in, I'm just thinking about what comes next."
"If you haven't even dealt with the present, don't worry so much about the future," Cyd raised his hand and playfully tapped Miyu's nose. Unfortunately, Miyu only tilted her head in confusion.
"Tomorrow never really comes. What we have is today, and today is unique. We just need to live each day well."
"So?" El-Melloi II crossed his legs. "Are you still planning to collect class cards today?"
"It's not much trouble," Cyd placed Miyu on the ground. "Gray, could you help Miyu take a bath?"
Miyu instinctively grabbed Cyd's fingers, seeming a bit reluctant to leave his side.
"It's okay. This sister is a very kind person," Cyd patted Miyu's head.
"Miyu, my name is Gray," Gray knelt down and extended her hand to Miyu.
After looking at Gray for a moment, Miyu reached out and held her hand.
"What's your name?" Before entering the bathroom, Miyu paused and looked back at Cyd.
"Cyd," Cyd waved at her.
"The Pure White Hero," Miyu's eyes widened slightly.
[One day, a hero named Hope will come to your side, so don't give up. One day, you will find happiness.]
On that day, at the last moment, someone had watched her leave with gentle eyes and made that unbelievable promise.
"Have you come, hero…"
The girl's voice, once devoid of emotion, began to tremble.
"Will you… save us?"
Cyd froze, then sighed helplessly before his lips curled into a small smile.
"Well, I am here to save you."
After Miyu lowered her head and entered the bathroom, El-Melloi II stood up.
"Is this really alright?" El-Melloi II walked to Cyd's side, gazing at the darkening sky outside. "That child is likely hiding a lot of secrets. It's just a hunch, but this matter with the class cards may have even more troublesome layers to it."
"A detective's intuition?" Cyd tilted his head.
"No, just because most of the cases I've been involved in end up getting very complicated, and there's always a hidden agenda. This time, it's probably the same," El-Melloi II sighed helplessly. "Looks like you'll be in for a lot of trouble."
"It's fine, because that child cried," Cyd raised his hand, pressing it against his eyes. "Sometimes, wisdom feels like a curse…"
"What did you see?" El-Melloi II raised an intrigued eyebrow.
Cyd, blessed with extraordinary wisdom, could always perceive things that ordinary people, like him, couldn't.
"Happiness and then… despair," Cyd clenched his fist. "Why must such a young child suffer like this? Has the world truly become this wretched?"
He had seen it—a puppet-like girl, grasping happiness only for it to be shattered like bubbles by her relentless past.
"Honestly, being too smart isn't always a good thing," El-Melloi II pulled out a map from his coat. "But for now, all we can do is focus on collecting the class cards."
"Then maybe tonight, I'll just…" Cyd narrowed his eyes.
Click—!
The bathroom door slowly opened a crack, and a damp-haired Miyu cautiously peeked out. "Are you leaving tonight?"
"Hmm, I won't leave until you find happiness," Cyd smiled warmly, tilting his head.
"Um… Miyu, you'll catch a cold if your body isn't dried!" Gray quickly threw a towel over Miyu's head and pulled her back into the bathroom.
"That child probably sees you as her hope," El-Melloi II patted Cyd's shoulder. "You should rest tonight."
"Aren't you worried your two students will recklessly challenge a Servant?" Cyd plopped down on the couch.
"No problem. Those two are arrogant, but they're not idiots," El-Melloi II sat beside Cyd, pulling a game controller out of a nearby box and handing it to him, grabbing one for himself as well. "And besides, you have a child to save right here. If you can help, why not?"
"By the way… what about dinner?" Cyd asked while fiddling with the controller.
"Gray can cook," El-Melloi II responded casually. "There should still be ingredients in the fridge."
Cyd's eyes widened slowly, his fingers pausing on the controller.
He remembered!
When he initially went out, besides wanting to help Gray adjust her personality, he had also planned to restock the empty fridge. But then… he ran into the two muscle-bound magical girls.
And ended up teaching those reckless magical girls a lesson in the forest, forgetting all about the groceries.
"How about we order takeout?" Cyd suggested awkwardly.
