I Was Sold to My Mortal Enemy (Double Transmigrations)

Chapter 17

“Do you have sugar at home?” Shi Yi asked, glancing at Pei Xing as he continued to scale the fish with his hands moving non-stop.

“We have everything at home,” Pei Xing responded, feeling a warmth in his heart as Shi Yi mentioned “home.” His eyes held tenderness, and the corners of his lips subtly curved, “If you need anything, just let me know, and I’ll go to the county to buy it.”

Shi Yi suddenly remembered that he also had a wedding dress made of high-quality fabric. He raised his bright and beautiful face, stared at Pei Xing with seductive peach blossom eyes, and said, “By the way, didn’t I still have a wedding dress? Otherwise, you can take me to the county town to pawn it someday, and maybe I can get a few taels.”

“I’ll take you with me tomorrow.” Pei Xing replied warmly. He looked at Shi Yi, and his eyes grew deeper.

Shi Yi nodded, his eyes slightly lowered, and his long, curled eyelashes casted a small shadow, “Any day is fine.”

Pei Xing’s eyes shifted, and suddenly he grasped Shi Yi’s delicate wrist and stopped him.

With a swift motion, he leaned in and kissed those beautiful eyes.

“Why are you acting so boldly all of a sudden?” Shi Yi glared at him, his ears blushing, “Don’t interrupt and delay me from scaling the fish.”

Pei Xing chuckled and didn’t get angry. He pushed Shi Yi away and drew him into his arms, taking the knife from his hand, “I’ll handle this; you can chat with me.”

He held the knife, and Shi Yi dared not move it, fearing he might cut himself.

“When did you learn to cook?” Shi Yi asked in surprise. In the past, Pei Xing excelled in many areas, but Shi Yi had never seen him cook.

“I’ve learned a bit here and there, but I don’t do it often,” Pei Xing explained. “I can manage simple dishes, but I don’t consider myself an expert. There’s one dish I’ve practiced a lot, and it’s quite delicious. I can also make sweet and sour fish and you can make the fish balls.”

Although Shi Yi had doubts, he didn’t object. After finishing cleaning up the fish, they both headed to the kitchen.

Aunt Hong was somewhat surprised to see Pei Xing entering the kitchen, as she had never witnessed Young Master Pei cooking.

.

For lunch, they prepared a feast of various fish dishes.

When Zhou Yan and Song Ning arrived with more fish, shrimps, and crabs, they were amazed to see Pei Xing rolling up his sleeves and frying fish.

Song Ning commented, “Brother Pei, you can actually cook!”

Shi Yi, not understanding why everyone was so surprised, remembered an ancient saying, ‘A gentleman stays away from the kitchen.’

He added, “Cooking is a fundamental skill for everyone. It’s nothing to be surprised about. Only those who can’t cook should feel embarrassed.”

Zhou Yan, who couldn’t cook, decided to keep his comments to himself and quietly swallowed his words.

“I can handle it.” Song Ning whispered, glancing at Zhou Yan with a smile in his eyes. When they were children, his father had tried to teach Zhou Yan how to cook, but Zhou Yan struggled with it. In the end, it was Song Ning who mastered it.

“You’re still teasing me,” Zhou Yan playfully flicked his forehead and then proceeded to handle the shrimps and crabs.

Song Ning chuckled and rubbed his forehead, feeling a sweet warmth in his heart.

He assisted Zhou Yan in cleaning the shrimps and crabs, and then joined the kitchen to help.

When Father Song brought Lin Ke along, they found several young people busy in the kitchen.

Lin Ke wanted to join the cooking, but Father Song led him to the courtyard instead.

“They are all young people; let’s not interfere,” Father Song remarked, glancing at Pei Xing in the kitchen. He couldn’t help but think that Pei Xing, who was once so gloomy, had changed for the better over the past few years.

“This is the happiest I’ve seen Xiao Xing in a long time,” Lin Ke remembered the first time he brought Pei Xing home five years ago.

At that time, Pei Xing had a somber and gloomy demeanor, as if he was a trapped animal. It was attributed to his grief over his teacher’s death.

However, three years ago, a sudden shift occurred. The depression that had clung to him dissipated, and he seemed to have gained a new lease on life. His travels decreased, and he began to pursue academic qualifications and engage in new projects, eventually designing and building his current home.

Lin Ke took a discreet glance at the handsome man busy in the kitchen. It seemed that this remarkable transformation was largely thanks to Shi Yi.

After a satisfying lunch, Shi Yi helped Aunt Hong with the dishes. During this moment, Pei Xing seized the opportunity to express his desire to marry Shi Yi and asked Father Song to witness the marriage. Father Song readily agreed.

.

Shortly after lunch, a group of people arrived at the house, carrying two boxes of goods into Pei Xing’s room.

The leader was a rugged-looking young man with thick eyebrows and large eyes. He was Zhou Hua. Curiosity got the best of him, so he came directly to see what was happening. It was also an opportunity to collect the fruits.

Upon entering, he noticed a handsome shuanger, which must be the person Pei Xing had brought home. Beside him was a child, about five years old, with a well-defined lotus mark on his forehead.

“What’s going on here?” Shi Yi asked curiously.

“They are here to buy fruits. Would you like to have a look?” Pei Xing replied.

“What the hell!” Shi Yi followed him to the backyard.

Pei Xing opened two tightly sealed rooms, and Shi Yi followed him into one of them. As soon as he entered, the distinct and rich fragrance of strawberries filled his senses.

“You did this?” Shi Yi asked in disbelief.

He remembered there were no strawberries in ancient times, right?

Could it be that strawberries had time-traveled with him?!

Or was it that Pei Xing possessed some kind of golden finger?!

That would be so unfair!!!

“What else have you done?” Shi Yi looked at him with shining eyes, curious if Pei Xing possessed an extraordinary ability. However, he couldn’t ask openly because there were other people present.

“I’ll show you later.” Pei Xing said with a smile and led him into another room.

This room turned out to be an ice cellar. Shi Yi accepted it calmly. After the group left, he took some ice and strawberries and made a few strawberry smoothies.

Pei Xing was concerned about his stomach and allowed him to have only a few sips, consuming the rest himself.

Frustrated, Shi Yi ignored him and went back to the room. It was then that he realized this was Pei Xing’s bedroom. He cursed under his breath and began to leave.

.

Pei Xing scooped him up and carried him into the inner room, where they sat on the bed.

He reached out and took items from the bedside table, which left Shi Yi stunned.

There were mobile phones, tablets, solar power banks, jade pendants, bracelets, and a ring box. Additionally, there was a small medical kit, some first-aid sprays, and bandages.

These items were brought with Pei Xing when his soul entered this body six years ago. His travel bag had accompanied him on a planned trip with friends before the plane accident.

What surprised Shi Yi even more was when Pei Xing took out something heavy from the bedside table – a compact pistol?!

Shi Yi’s eyes widened in shock, and he stammered, “How… How do you have this?”

“It was a gift from a foreign friend,” Pei Xing replied as if it were an ordinary possession. He calmly squeezed Shi Yi’s hand and said, “Promise me you’ll carry it with you from now on.”

“Why do I need to carry this?” Shi Yi felt uneasy, thinking about the county master he had encountered on the boat.

He asked with worry, “Are you being pursued by some enemy who wants to harm you?”

Pei Xing found it amusing and couldn’t fathom where Shi Yi’s thoughts were going. He played along with the idea and pretended to be distressed, saying, “Oh, what can I do? I’m being hunted by an enemy, and I’m not sure if I’ll survive.”

“Is it that serious?!” Shi Yi’s face crumpled with concern. He thought for a moment and said, “Why don’t we leave this place and go abroad? I don’t know if there’s any overseas country nearby.”

“Baby, why are you so adorable?” Pei Xing couldn’t help but smile. Hearing his words, a warmth welled up in Pei Xing’s heart. His eyes brimmed with emotion as he embraced Shi Yi’s warm body and kissed his lovely face.

Now he was finally certain that Shi Yi genuinely accepted him wholeheartedly.

While Shi Yi had been straightforward with his words in the past, his eyes couldn’t hide the truth. Pei Xing knew that Shi Yi cared for him, but he wasn’t sure about the depth of his love. After having pushed by him away multiple times, he did a lot of things in anger, that hurt Shi Yi.

Now, realizing he had been teased, Shi Yi scolded him in embarrassment.

Pei Xing laughed and brought his face close to Shi Yi’s ear, saying warmly, “The legal system in this world isn’t perfect, and I’m concerned you might get injured or face unforeseen circumstances. That’s why I want you to have it for self-defense.” With Shi Yi’s relatively frail physique, self-defense was essential in case he found himself in a dangerous situation.

Shi Yi nodded in agreement, feeling a slight blush in his ears. Perhaps the heat of Pei Xing’s words had found its way there, causing his face to flush.

Seeing his obedient response, Pei Xing took the ring box, removed the ring, and placed it on Shi Yi’s ring finger.

“Shi Yi, let’s get married. In the past, my arrogance got in the way, but now even fate is on our side. Give me a chance. Let’s start anew, shall we?”

Shi Yi stared at the ring on his finger, a heart-shaped red diamond embedded in it. He had thought it was meant for Pei Xing’s fiancée and left without a word.

It wasn’t until he heard about Pei Xing’s accident that he learned the truth from his aunt. Pei Xing had disregarded his family’s arrangements and had a wedding ring custom made for Shi Yi, planning to propose to him.

“I didn’t expect it to fit so perfectly.” Pei Xing took Shi Yi’s hand and kissed it, then placed a matching ring on his own finger, intertwining their fingers.

Shi Yi felt a tightness in his chest and struggled to catch his breath. His eyes began to mist over, and it took him a while to find his voice.

“This ring is too conspicuous. It’s not appropriate to wear it here.”

Pei Xing was momentarily taken aback, thinking Shi Yi was about to refuse.

After a pause, Shi Yi continued, “Find someone to make two chains for us, and we can wear them as necklaces.”

Pei Xing suddenly hugged him tightly, his voice choked. It took him a while to say, “Okay.”
