Chapter 18
At night, Shi Yi held his cell phone and had just unlocked it when he saw a photo from his previous life on the screen, which momentarily left him stunned.
It wasn’t until he accessed the downloaded data that he realized the phone belonged to him. Pei Xing had bought it for him back then and he only used it for three months before leaving it behind.
With no internet access in this place, there wasn’t much to do on the phone except revisit stored content.
Shi Yi recalled that in his previous life, he had been learning to create comics and had gathered a variety of materials for writing stories. He had forgotten what he had collected until now.
Reviewing his collection, he found a mishmash of items, including topics like glass manufacturing, dyeing techniques, mechanical gunpowder forging, and gourmet encyclopedias. These seemingly random topics from the past proved to be valuable in this world.
“I can’t believe I collected and downloaded these things before. They are so useful,” Shi Yi said excitedly. Thinking about what Hong Luo had mentioned, he asked Pei Xing, “Hong Luo said you’re the most handsome man within an eight-village radius. Aren’t you also the wealthiest man in this village?”
“Well, what do you think? Are you considering pledging yourself to me?” Pei Xing raised an eyebrow and sat on the edge of the bed.
“Promise my ass.” Shi Yi replied, turned around, and laid down, legs crossed, continuing to browse through the content on his phone. He seemed absorbed in what he was reading, and the speed of his scrolling had slowed down.
Pei Xing laid next to him, his arms around Shi Yi’s shoulders. He asked, “I’ve deleted all the useless information on it.”
“Are these photos from your travels?” Shi Yi felt as if he was watching an ancient documentary, seeing images of various historical buildings and picturesque landscapes.
Pei Xing had traveled to many places, and the videos were edited into a documentary lasting over an hour, complete with accompanying music.
“How long have you been here?” Shi Yi inquired.
“Six years and one hundred and eighty-two days,” Pei Xing replied with precise timing.
“It’s been so long, and you just…” Shi Yi suddenly stopped speaking, pursed his lips tightly, and his expression turned somber.
“What’s wrong? How long have I been deceased in that world?” Pei Xing held him in his arms.
“Three months and twelve days,” Shi Yi replied, lowering his gaze.
.
Pei Xing paused for a moment and seemed lost in thought. His eyes darkened as he looked at Shi Yi and asked, “I previously asked how you came here, and you mentioned it was due to a car accident. Let me ask it now. Darling, please be honest with me. Why did you suddenly have a car accident?”
As he finished speaking, Shi Yi’s body suddenly tensed, and Pei Xing’s heart ached. He took a deep breath and continued, “If you don’t want to talk about it, then forget it. Just listen to me.”
Shi Yi buried his face in Pei Xing’s arms, not daring to raise his head. He could only feel his chest vibrating as Pei Xing’s deep, soothing voice filled the room.
“On September 2, three years ago, that night, I suddenly dreamt of you. The dream was incredibly vivid, as if I had been transported back to our time together. In your previous life, I witnessed you fainting on the street after learning about my passing. Later, Aunt Song called you and informed you about the ring. You cried so intensely that you couldn’t even speak. Following that, you locked yourself in your room for over three months. Then, all of a sudden, you went out of control, driving to visit me. You scolded and wept in front of my tombstone, kissing my photo.”
At this point, Pei Xing paused briefly, and his breathing became heavier as he continued, “I didn’t see… how your car accident occurred. When I finally dreamt of you, you were covered in blood, kneeling before my tombstone, clutching a bouquet of red roses. You said goodbye and see you in the next life. You are acting like this, how can I bear to let you go,” Pei Xing’s voice trembled, and he held Shi Yi tightly, feeling his chest grow warm. “Please, don’t push me away again.”
Shi Yi clung to his chest, lips pressed together, and remained silent.
