I suddenly became the villain and I liked it

I open my eyes. My head hurts as I look around. I try to sit up but the pain around my stomach area prevents me from doing so. Ah, my ribs were harmed. Not sure if it was broken or just fractured but it hurts all the same. I raise both of my hands and I try to move them. I cannot feel four of my fingers. I cannot move them as well. It seems that my body still has not recovered from the wounds I suffered. Understandable as I do not heal as fast as people with magic. It is just another weakness of mine.

“Mistress!”

The door opens and Sylvia enters the room. She comes near me and kneels beside me.

“How are you feeling, mistress?”

“Normal. Do not worry.”

“Please do not lie to me. Head maid has already told me all of it.”

“Head maid?”

“Yes. When Melanie brought you unconscious, I asked for head maid to help your treatment.”

“Was it only her?”

“Yes, mistress. I have been instructed that if you would need any need for medical care to call for head maid.”

“Were you present during the treatment?”

“No, mistress.”

I lay my head down. That is good. Sylvia should never see what my body looks like under these clothes. Even I hate it so much that I vomit when I look at myself.

“What is my condition?”

“Head maid said that you have fractured your ribs, two burned fingers, two fingers suffering from frostbite and a concussion.”

“A concussion?”

“Yes. From the stories, Melanie could not catch you when you fell. So, you hit your head hard on the ground.”

“I see. Where is Melanie?”

“She is in class.”

“How long have I been sleeping?”

“For a week, mistress.”

“I see. Has the school been informed of my absence?”

“Yes. Emilia has informed them that you are currently doing familial duties. From Melanie’s report, most of the students were led to the same conclusion.”

“Good.”

Although it is now inevitable that father would know about what occurred. My weak long absence would tip him off on what occurred.

“I will sleep again. Make sure to inform Melanie to come to me when she returns.’

“Understood, mistress.”

I would still need more time to recover. It is now the perfect time to read through all the ledgers and records that we found. I closed my eyes but I remembered that I still had one of them with me. I checked my dress and found the book. Whether head maid saw this is another story that I need to verify. It would be dangerous if father knew I had these records after all. Just another thing I would need to confirm in the future. But for now, rest.

“Mistress, Melanie is here.”

I woke up to the sounds of Sylvia knocking on my door. Without my reply, Sylvia and Melanie entered the room.

“Miss Athena, you’re awake!”

Melanie ran towards me.

“Yes, Melanie. Can you remind me what happened?”

“Oh! Okay! So, after the fight you suddenly lost consciousness. It was really surprising. I just heard a thud behind me and then you were on the ground.”

I might have relaxed after everything was over.

“It was really hard, okay? I had to make sure that nobody saw us. I’m not that strong so carrying you was really hard.  But some of the others who got captured helped me hide you when I couldn’t. I was really surprised that they were helping.”

Hmph. They can do whatever they want.

“I see. Were there any news of my involvement in the incident?”

“Uh, no. There was nothing about that. Though, the other two did ask me about you. I didn’t really know what to do so I didn’t tell them anything.”

“I see. What about the child?”

“We took care of the child.”

“In what way?”

“Oh! Don’t misunderstand. Some of the other captured people told me about the child so we took her here and cared for her.

“Yes. The child was here until yesterday. She insisted on leaving before you woke up. Something about becoming strong.”

“Oh! I forgot. You were holding onto this when you collapsed.”

Melanie handed over the necklace.

“Ah. This was from the child.”

I took it and held it in my hand. I felt a little bit better.

“Sylvia. Can you get me something to drink?”

“Yes, mistress.”

Sylvia left the room and it was just Melanie and I.

“Melanie, did you read them?”

Melanie looked nervous as she heard my question.

“Melanie.”

“I did! I’m sorry!”

Melanie bowed her head to the ground.

“No need. Stand up.”

Melanie quickly stood up.

“Since it has already come to this, make sure to read all of it thoroughly. Make sense of it all and compile the important information. Tell me everything before I recover. Do you understand?”

“Yes, miss Athena!”

“Then, from what you have read. Is there anything about my family?”

“Uh, nothing much. There was just one record of him giving the money but nothing else.”

That must have been the first book I saw. It must have been a mistake. It might have been their first transaction and he forgot to delete that record.

“But there were a lot of things about other people. It had complete details and everything!”

Figures. Father must have made sure that he made perfect records of all other transactions so that it could be used in the future. However, father could not use it in the game since it was burned and he cannot use it now as I have acquired all of it.

“What do you plan to do with this?”

“Nothing, for now.”

“Nothing?”

“Yes. You have stumbled upon the darkness of our society. If any of this comes out, I already know who is to blame. Do you understand, Melanie?”

“Y-yes!”

“Good. Make sure to provide the list of names on who is there. I will decide if it will be of use in the future.”

“O-okay!”

“I will be sleeping now. Inform Sylvia that she does not need to see to me today.”

I lay down and close my eyes to sleep.
