Ch 07
A Matter of Life and Death for the Zerg
For the sake of General Zhao’s safety, the mission to retrieve the Zerg from the garbage planet was a top-secret operation among the military’s upper echelons. It wasn’t until the Voyager F-3 entered the safe zone of Zerg Star that the news of General Zhao’s return was made public.
Stardate 3069, the 123rd standard rotation day of Zerg Star, 12:29 Star Time.
Pasor Star, Central Square.
Gone was the usual hustle and bustle, replaced by an eerie silence.
However, the square, now eerily quiet, was packed with people. Present were Marshal Sen, renowned for his military achievements, and his iron-blooded army; the twelve prominent members of the Empire’s Elder Council; the famous Empire’s Male Protection Association and numerous S-class male lords; celebrated interstellar sub-female megastars; and shrewd titans of the business world.
With the exception of the reclusive Zerg Emperor, nearly all of the Empire’s elite had gathered in this vast Central Square.
Why? Because their Empire’s beacon had returned, bringing back with him a male lord!
The Empire’s beacon—a title he truly deserved. He was the idol of all females on Zerg Star, and one of the three S-class high-ranking females in the entire Empire. Now, he was about to complete the fourth stage of evolution and become the Empire’s only dual-S female general!
And the male lord he had brought back was a natural-born S-class high-ranking male, one who had not yet undergone the third stage of evolution! He was also a potential dual-S male zerg!
The moment everyone had been waiting for had arrived! In just one more star minute, the military ship carrying General Zhao and the male zerg would land on Central Square on time!
The afternoon sun broke through the clouds, spilling over every corner of the square.
Under the scorching sun, every Zerg’s heart burned with anticipation.
Every Imperial citizen who couldn’t be present was glued to their screens, eagerly watching the welcome ceremony being broadcast live on the Central Channel.
In the square, all the Zergs had their left arms wrapped in pink gauze embroidered with the national emblem, and wore the empire’s national flower on their chests. Their eyes were all fixed on the place where the battleship would soon arrive.
Closer, closer.
The deafening roar echoed across the square as the Empire’s battleship—Voyager F-3—slowly descended, a marvel of engineering forged by the tireless efforts of many scientists.
The battleship, entirely silver-white, gleamed as if gilded in gold under the sunlight, radiant and magnificent.
As the doors of the battleship opened, the Zergs, without wiping the sweat from their brows, instinctively straightened their postures, placing their left hands on their right chests, and slowly bowed.
This was the highest level of a welcoming ceremony in the Empire.
When He Yi stepped off the battleship, this was the grand and majestic scene that greeted him.
He subtly stepped back half a step to hold the hand of the female Zerg behind him and whispered, “Ah Zhao, why are there so many Zergs?” Even though he had prepared himself mentally, he was still taken aback.
Do all male Zergs receive this much attention?
The Marshal of the Military Department, who was in charge of this reception, was the first to approach. He bowed slightly, “Good day, Your Excellency. Welcome to Pasor Star. I am Marshal Sen of the Empire.”
General Zhao saluted, “Marshal!”
He Yi looked at the Empire’s Marshal in front of him, dressed in a black uniform with golden patterns, the empire’s emblem on his shoulder sparkling. He had short, slightly curly silver hair, a faint crescent mark on his forehead, and a deep, almost ferocious scar running from his left brow bone down to his right jawline.
He Yi raised an eyebrow—this was clearly a Zerg with a story.
“Hello, Marshal Sen, I’ve long admired your name.”
“Your Excellency, first, please allow me to express my deep apologies for your ordeal. The Empire will pursue those responsible to the end. Given the extremely harsh environment of the barren star, I suggest, on behalf of the Empire, that you undergo a comprehensive health examination. What do you think?” Marshal Sen softened his tone, speaking as gently as possible.
“Alright, thank you.” He Yi nodded and smiled in agreement.
Inwardly, he thought: The one responsible was the zombie king I perished with—he’s probably already crossed the Bridge of Netherland by now.
Every word and action of the male Zerg tugged at the hearts of billions of Zerg citizens. This male had delicate features, porcelain-white skin, fluffy, soft black hair, and deep, dark eyes. His manner was gentle and polite, carrying the unique noble reserve of a male Zerg.
And standing beside the male was their Empire’s beacon of hope.
If the adult version of General Zhao was a sharp sword slicing through the cosmic galaxy, invincible, then the current youthful version of General Zhao was a bright pearl cherished in the Empire’s grand hall, shining brilliantly.
The Zerg citizens watching the live broadcast of General Zhao holding hands with the male Zerg beamed with satisfied smiles:
Their Empire’s beacon was finally getting married!
First Affiliated Hospital of the Imperial Military Medical University.
Having completed his health examination, He Yi was sitting anxiously in the male Zerg waiting area, his face full of worry. “Are you sure everything’s okay? He’s been in there for so long.”
“Doctor, can’t I just go in and take a look? I promise I won’t interfere.”
The medical staff, looking at the male Zerg who was practically swearing an oath in front of them, said helplessly once again, “Your Excellency, General Zhao has only been in the evolution breakthrough room for less than ten star minutes. Moreover, he has already passed the most difficult heat phase. Based on the current data of the General’s body, the probability of successfully completing the fourth-stage evolution is as high as 99%, thanks in large part to your frequent mental power guidance and pheromone soothing recently.”
He Yi frowned, his eyes flashing as he caught the loophole in the medical staff’s words. “Are you saying there’s still nearly a 1% chance of failure? Is there any way to make it 100% successful?”
The thought of Ah Zhao’s face, pale and bloodless from the pain, made his heart ache.
Seeing the male Zerg frown, the medical staff member felt a twinge of anxiety. “Your Excellency, there’s no need to worry too much. The facilities in the evolution breakthrough room are very advanced. Even without the assistance of a male Zerg, success is still possible.”
“So, you’re saying that the fourth-stage evolution actually requires male Zerg assistance?” He Yi was furious. If he hadn’t used mental suggestion on the medical staff just now, wouldn’t they have kept him in the dark?
Realizing their slip of the tongue, the medical staff member quickly covered their mouth and fell silent.
He Yi suddenly stood up from his seat, his eyes blazing with uncontrollable anger.
“Tell me, how do I assist!”
He couldn’t allow even the slightest mishap to befall Ah Zhao!
The powerful mental energy of a high-level male Zerg radiated outward, causing the surrounding medical staff to kneel on the ground. Only Marshal Sen and a few A-level female soldiers remained standing.
Although Marshal Sen possessed an S-level physique, for a female Zerg without mental energy, facing the mental pressure of an S-level high-ranking male Zerg was not as effortless as he appeared. As for the A-level female soldiers, they were merely gritting their teeth, barely holding on.
He Yi withdrew his chaotic mental energy.
“Why didn’t you tell me about something so critical… so life-threatening before?”
He was both angry and upset.
If Ah Zhao… No! There’s no “if.” Ah Zhao will be fine!
Marshal Sen gave a wry smile. “Your Excellency, your body was severely damaged on the barren star. With your current frail physical condition, you simply cannot withstand the overwhelming force that General Zhao will unleash during his fourth-stage evolution breakthrough.”
Seeing that the male Zerg remained unmoved, he changed his approach. “Besides, harming a male Zerg is a serious crime on Zerg Star. You wouldn’t want General Zhao to successfully complete his evolution only to be imprisoned for injuring you, would you?”
He Yi hesitated.
Marshal Sen continued to persuade him. “Actually, if General Zhao truly needs your help at the final critical moment, it won’t be too late for you to assist then.”
“On the contrary, if you go in now, it might do more harm than good to General Zhao.” He had seen enough to know that this male Zerg’s concern for Zhao was more than evident.
Hearing this, He Yi sat back down and rubbed his temples. “Sorry for causing you trouble.”
The Zergs responded, “No trouble at all.”
…
After a long and agonizing thirty star minutes.
The door to the evolution breakthrough room finally opened. He Yi leaped to his feet and rushed over in just a few strides. “Doctor, how is he? Is he okay?”
The medical officer squinted with a wide smile, so excited that he was nearly incoherent: “The General, he’s completed the fourth-stage evolution! He’s done it! He’s now an SS-level female of the Empire! It’s been thousands of years! Finally!”
He Yi’s lips curved slightly upward.
Every hair on his body seemed to convey his inner excitement and joy, “I knew it! I knew Ah Zhao would succeed!”
The soldiers, who had arrived a bit later, were equally thrilled:
“The General is truly amazing!”
“Yes! A double-S female!”
“Hey, do you think the General might one day evolve into an SSS female?”
“What are you talking about? Do you think it’s that easy to evolve into a Triple-S female? That’s pure fantasy! Being double-S is already incredible!”
“Hey, a little daydreaming isn’t a crime. Our General has always been one to create miracles!”
“Exactly! Who would have thought back then that the General would become a double-S?”
“True, the General may be quiet, but when he acts, he amazes everyone!”
Amid the joyous atmosphere, General Zhao finally emerged, whom everyone had eagerly anticipated.
His smooth, fair face bore sharp, defined features, and his deep blue eyes sparkled with a starry light. His chiseled, stern expression softened, like ice melting in warm springs, as he spotted the male beside him, breaking into a warm smile.
“My lord.”
General Zhao’s pink lips curled up as he stopped in front of the male, lowering his gaze without saying anything.
He had so much to say, but didn’t know where to begin. He wasn’t sure if his appearance could win the male’s favor.
Even though He Yi had long known that Ah Zhao was so attractive, standing face-to-face with him still made his heart flutter.
Ah! He’s so charming! What has Ah Zhao been eating to grow up so sweet!
It felt like a dragonfly was teasing his heart, sometimes skimming the surface of the water, causing ripples, and other times circling in the air.
Looking at the shy, downcast Zerg in front of him, He Yi’s thoughts turned as he suddenly grabbed the Zerg’s wrist and gently, yet firmly, pressed him against the wall, slowly bringing his lips closer.
Standing on tiptoe, he planted a light kiss on Zhao’s forehead.
A moment of pure joy flashed in the Zerg’s eyes.
The lord kissed him! He kissed him! If you round up a little… it’s almost like being favored by the lord!
A hint of moisture glimmered in his clear blue eyes.
He reached out and gently wrapped his arms around the male’s waist, mimicking his actions, and also placed a light kiss on the male’s forehead.
— Click, click.
The harsh sound of a camera shutter and the flash of a bright light shattered the rare, tender atmosphere, snapping the two nearly love-struck Zergs back to reality.
Who was it? Didn’t they know that interrupting someone’s affection could get them kicked by a donkey?!
Looking towards the source of the sound, they saw a young male Zerg with a baby face, holding up his light brain device, still in camera mode.
“Sorry, I forgot to turn off the sound,” the baby-faced Zerg said, tidying his meticulously groomed hair and then lightly coughing into his right hand.
“You two, please continue, go on.”
